EANES ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO ORDER.MADAME SECRETARY, DO WE HAVE A QUORUM? WE DO. UH, THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
THE THE FIRST ITEM ON OUR AGENDA IS OUR OPEN FORUM, WE HAVE TWO SPEAKERS SIGNED UP.
[3. OPEN FORUM]
LET ME GO AHEAD AND READ THE OPEN FORUM ANNOUNCEMENT JUST SO THAT WE CAN GET IT INTO THE RECORD. I JUST FIND IT.UH, LET'S SEE. DO THE NUMBER OF SPEAKERS WE HAVE SIGNED UP TODAY, SPEAKER WILL BE AFFORDED THREE MINUTES, WE HAVE TWO SPEAKERS.
AND WHILE YOU MAY REMOVE YOUR MASK WHILE SPEAKING, PLEASE WEAR IT AS YOU APPROACH THE PODIUM OR RETURN TO YOUR SEAT.
ONCE YOU ARE NOTIFIED THAT YOUR TIME IS UP, PLEASE FINISH YOUR SENTENCE AND THEN STOP.
AND THEN I'M GOING TO DISPENSE WITH THE WARNING ABOUT DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR AND STUFF.
I THINK WE'RE GOOD. BRYAN TALLEY WAS OUR FIRST SPEAKER TO SIGN UP.
LARRY O'BRIEN. MR. O'BRIEN, YOU ARE UP.
WELCOME. UH, I'M LARRY O'BRIEN, I'M A WESTLAKE PARENT, AND FIRST I'D LIKE TO THANK THE BOARD AND THE ADMINISTRATION FOR YOUR SERVICE IN LEADING OUR SCHOOLS ARE EXEMPLARY SCHOOL DISTRICT THROUGH THESE RATHER CHALLENGING TIMES.
WE APPEAR TO BE AT A NEW PHASE OF OUR CHALLENGE WITH COVID AND THE OMICRON WAVE.
AND BESIDES ENCOURAGING VACCINATIONS AND MASK WEARING AS NECESSARY AND HELPFUL, IT STILL APPEARS THAT HUNDREDS OF OUR STUDENTS AND DOZENS OF OUR TEACHERS AND STAFF ARE STILL OUT SICK EVERY DAY.
SINCE THE START OF THE NEW SEMESTER, THERE HAS BEEN THERE HAS NOT BEEN A LOT OF RECENT COMMUNICATION FOR THE EANES COMMUNITY, EXCEPT FOR A NEAR DAILY EXPOSURE AND CLOSE CONTACT NOTIFICATIONS.
SO WITH THAT ALL IN MIND, I'D LIKE TO ENCOURAGE THE FOLLOWING WEEKLY COMMUNICATIONS WITH THE EANES COMMUNITY AS TO THE LATEST STATUS IN STATE AND LOCAL GUIDELINES THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING. AND PREPARATION AND COMMUNICATION OF ANY CONTINGENCY PLANNING THAT YOU THINK IS APPROPRIATE. FOR EXAMPLE, IF A THRESHOLD OF FIVE OR 10 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS ARE SICK AND PERHAPS FOR THE MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS INCUR IN VIRTUAL ZOOM CLASSES SHOULD BE OFFERED FOR THOSE STUDENTS OUT SICK TO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO TRY AND STAY CURRENT IN THEIR CLASSES AND TO PROVIDE THOSE WHO ARE NOT FEELING WELL OR CONCERNED BASED UPON THEIR EXPOSURE. THEY'RE CLOSE EXPOSURES TO OTHER STUDENTS OF COVID TO BE IN SCHOOL, AT LEAST VIRTUALLY. OF COURSE, WE WANT AND NEED OUR SCHOOLS TO STAY OPEN.
AND THERE ARE ALL IMPORTANT FUNDING REQUIREMENTS AND CONSIDERATIONS.
BUT RIGHT NOW, IT FEELS THAT WE ARE BARRELING DOWN THE TRACKS AS A COMMUNITY CONCERNED WITHOUT KNOWING EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING ON AND WHAT CONTINGENCY PLANS THE BOARD IN ADMINISTRATION MAY HAVE IN PLACE WHILE WE WATCH MORE AND MORE OF OUR STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND STAFF FALL ILL WITH COVID EVERY DAY.
THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.
OUR SECOND SPEAKER IS NOT HERE.
ALL RIGHT, WELL, THAT CONCLUDES THE OPEN FORUM PORTION OF OUR MEETING NOT.
OK, THANK YOU. WE WILL NOW MOVE INTO CLOSED SESSION PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE 551
[4. CLOSED SESSION]
.074 AND 551.071.THANK YOU, MR. O'BRIEN.
