ALL RIGHT. AND WITH THAT, I'LL MOVE TO THE NEXT ITEM ON OUR AGENDA AND THAT IS THE OPEN FORUM SECTION OF OUR AGENDA.

AND WE HAD ONE SPEAKER SIGNED UP THIS EVENING.

[4. 2022 STRATEGIC SUMMIT]

LEONARD'S SUGGESTION, WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE SOME OPENING REMARKS.

THE THE BOARD HOLDS STRATEGIC SUMMIT ONCE A YEAR.

IT'S AMONG IT'S, IN MY VIEW, THE MOST IMPORTANT MEETINGS THAT WE THAT WE HAVE EVERY YEAR. THESE ARE THESE ARE THESE MEETINGS, THE MINUTE WE'LL HAVE TONIGHT AND WE'LL HAVE, I BELIEVE ON THE 22ND ARE OUR OPPORTUNITIES FOR US TO CANDIDLY TALK ABOUT THE SUCCESSES AND THE CHALLENGES THAT WE'VE HAD IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR AND TO TALK ABOUT OUR GOALS AND THE EXTENT TO WHICH OUR PRIOR GOALS ALIGN WITH OUR, OUR OUR OUR CURRENT WANTS AND NEEDS. AND WE CAN MAKE CHANGES AND WE CAN WE CAN CHOOSE TO FORTIFY THINGS THAT NEED SUPPORT AND WE CAN CHOOSE TO ELIMINATE OR ELIMINATE THINGS THAT HAVE KIND OF MATURED TO THE POINT THAT THEY NO LONGER REQUIRE A LOT OF OUR ATTENTION AND REGULAR SUPPORT.

THAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THESE OF THESE MEETINGS.

AND DR.

LEONARD, DID YOU WANT TO ADD ANY COLOR TO THAT? YEAH, A COUPLE OF THINGS.

OH, VERY QUICKLY.

THE THE DISCUSSION IS THAT WE HAVE INFORMED THE OUR FORMAL PRIORITIES THAT WE POST ON THE DISTRICT'S WEBSITE, AND THEY ALSO FEED THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN, WHICH ALSO FEEDS THE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN.

SO THAT'S THE THAT'S HOW BOARD POLICY ACTUALLY TRICKLES DOWN TO THE INDIVIDUAL CAMPUS LEVELS AND AS WE NOW HAVE TO LEARN.

SURE. AND OH, I GOT TO BE SURE, I DON'T GET TOO LOUD.

FIRST OF ALL, I THINK THIS IS AN IMPORTANT PROCESS TO GO THROUGH.

THE WAY WE DO IT, I THINK, IS SORT OF UNIQUE.

BUT ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THE SCHOOL DISTRICT TO HEAR THE VOICE OF THE COMMUNITY AND ESTABLISH WHAT OUR GOALS MIGHT BE.

OK. WE CAN'T HAVE EVERYBODY IN THE COMMUNITY HERE TO DO THAT, BUT WE GET EMAILS, WE GET INFORMATION FROM THEM.

BUT THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AT SOME POINT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY IS THE ELECTED REPRESENTATIVES IS TO SAY THIS IS WHAT WE THINK WE SHOULD FOCUS ON AS A DISTRICT FROM A HIGH LEVEL AND ADMINISTRATION. THEN DOWN TO STAFF NEED THEN TO TRY TO CARRY OUT WHATEVER THOSE OBJECTIVES ARE. AND I THINK THE BOARD HAS BEEN WISE.

THIS IS PROCESS IS ONE THAT IS FACILITATED EVERY YEAR.

WE DO HAVE A FACILITATOR HERE TONIGHT AND I'LL LET HER INTRODUCE HERSELF IN A LITTLE WHILE, BUT THAT'S AMY JACOBS, AND SHE'S SITTING RIGHT OVER THERE.

YOU'LL ALSO SEE WE HAVE A BUNCH OF ADMINISTRATORS AND DIFFERENT STAFF MEMBERS AND PRINCIPALS WHO ARE IN THE BACK OF THE ROOM.

THEY'LL BE DIFFERENT TIMES WHERE BOARD MEMBERS MAY HAVE QUESTIONS, MAY WANT TO GET CLARIFICATION, AND YOU'LL BE TALKING TO THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HEAR FROM THEM.

WHAT ARE WE DOING AND WHY ARE WE DOING IT? AND WE HAVE BEEN THROUGH THIS PROCESS PRETTY CONSISTENT IN ESTABLISHING SOME PRIORITIES.

MANY OF THEM HAVE BEEN WITH US FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS.

ONCE IN A WHILE, YOU CHANGE IT A LITTLE BIT.

ONCE IN A WHILE, YOU ADD SOMETHING NEW.

I DO NOT KNOW HOW THIS WILL ADD, OK.

IT'S A TWO DAY SUMMIT RIGHT NOW.

THIS IS OUR FIRST DAY IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN LAST WEEK, BUT MOTHER NATURE PLAYED A TRICK ON US. WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR THAT SECOND DATE FOR THE SUMMIT.

WE BELIEVE THERE IS A CHANCE THAT WE MAY DO THE SECOND DATE OF THE SUMMIT AT OUR FEBRUARY 22ND MEETING.

WE'RE TOYING WITH THAT BECAUSE WE'RE JUST HAVING TROUBLES WITH EVERYBODY'S SCHEDULES, BUT WE'LL TALK ABOUT THAT LATER.

EMAIL WITH YOU THAT LATER DATE.

ONCE WE GET THAT SOLIDIFIED FOR ME, THERE'S ANOTHER IMPORTANT PART OF THIS.

AND THAT'S ACCOUNTABILITY.

ACCOUNTABILITY OF THE ADMINISTRATION AND ACCOUNTABILITY OF THE STAFF.

BECAUSE WHAT WE DO HERE TURNS IN THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN, TURNS INTO THE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLAN, AND WE THEN REPORT ON WHAT WE ACCOMPLISHED WITH THOSE THINGS AT THE END OF EVERY YEAR.

WE DO THIS NOW SO THAT WE'LL HAVE THAT ALL IN PLACE BY THE TIME WE LEAVE IN MAY, JUNE AND WE CAN START UP THE SCHOOL YEAR READY TO ROLL.

OK. A COUPLE OF THINGS I'VE SAID EVERY YEAR, AND I'LL SAY THEM AGAIN THIS YEAR IF THAT'S NOT THE SLIDE I WANTED, BUT I'LL GET TO THE NEXT SLIDE WE CAN.

I DO BELIEVE THIS. WE CAN DO ANYTHING.

WE CAN'T DO EVERYTHING.

YOU HAVE TO TRY TO STAY FOCUSED.

IF YOU TRY TO DO TOO MANY THINGS, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO DO MANY OF THEM WELL.

THE OTHER THING YOU HAVE TO RECOGNIZE TEACHERS WHO ARE ON THE GROUND, THEY HAVE BANDWIDTH ISSUES LIKE.

EVERY HUMAN BEING HAS BANDWIDTH ISSUES, THEY CAN ONLY GET PEED ON SO MANY THINGS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SO MANY THINGS, THEY CAN ONLY BRING SO MANY NEW THINGS INTO THE CURRICULUM OR INTO THE INTO THEIR SPHERES IN A PARTICULAR YEAR.

SO WE NEED TO BE CONSCIOUS OF THAT.

WE ALSO NEED TO BE CONSCIOUS OF OUR RESOURCES AND TIME AS A RESOURCE.

THE OTHER RESOURCES, MONEY AND THIS IS WHAT'S SOMETHING A BOARD MEMBER GAVE ME YEARS AGO, AND IT'S NOT MOVING.

CAN YOU GET ME TO THE NEXT SLIDE BECAUSE THIS.

IS THERE A STRATEGIC PRIORITY YOU WANT TO TOTALLY RETIRE OR MERGE? AND THAT'S WHAT WE'VE DONE EVERY TIME WE'VE DONE THIS.

AND SO WE HAVE A FACILITATOR WHO IS GOING TO BRING US THROUGH DOTS AND THROUGH COLORED PENS AND EVERYTHING LIKE THAT, AND WE WILL GET THERE.

WE'VE GOT IN THERE EVERY YEAR.

WE CURRENTLY LIVE AT JOHNSON CITY, AND SO I'M RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD AND VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE DISTRICT AND I'M EXCITED TO WORK WITH YOU GUYS.

I HAVE I COME FROM A LONG LINE OF EDUCATORS, AND SO WE, MY PARENTS ARE EDUCATORS.

MY GRANDMOTHER WAS AN EDUCATOR AND MY HUSBAND IS A TEACHER COACH.

AND SO WE'VE BEEN TOGETHER.

WE'VE PUT IN BOTH OF US 25 YEARS PLUS IN EDUCATION.

AND SO I'VE BEEN A TEACHER AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, THE JUNIOR HIGH LEVEL, THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. I'VE BEEN A CAMPUS ADMINISTRATOR.

I'VE BEEN A DISTRICT ADMINISTRATOR.

I SERVED AS THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT AT MARBLE FALLS ISD RIGHT DOWN THE ROAD BEFORE MOVING INTO MY FIRST SUPERINTENDENT IN WEST TEXAS.

AND SO I SERVED AS SUPERINTENDENT AT WEST TEXAS FOR SEVEN YEARS AT KAHOMA ISD.

IT'S IN THE NEAR BIG SPRING I-20 AREA, AND SO OUR CLAIM TO FAME, WE DID A LOT OF REALLY GREAT THINGS AND WE DID IT BECAUSE WE HAD A TEAM OF EIGHT.

AND SO I HAD I JUST HAVE SUCH A STRONG JUST VALUE, THE TEAM OF EIGHT, SO MUCH BECAUSE THAT'S HOW YOU GET THINGS DONE AND DO MOVE THINGS ALONG FOR CHILDREN.

AND SO OUR CLAIM TO FAME, WE WERE THE TULSA HONOR BOARD IN 2017, AND I BELIEVE WE'RE STILL TODAY THE ONLY SMALL SCHOOL.

WE WERE 38 SCHOOL, AND SO WE'RE THE ONLY SMALL SCHOOL TO EVER WIN THAT AWARD.

AND THAT CAME FROM A LOT OF THIS TYPE OF PLANNING AND GIVING ALL OF OUR MISSIONS AND WHAT WE WANTED TO DO ALIGNED AND LIKE.

DR. LEONARD SAID, I LOVE THAT YOU SAID THAT WE DIDN'T TRY TO DO EVERYTHING.

WE WE STARTED WITH WHAT WE NEEDED TO DO AND THEN MOVE FROM THERE.

SO ALL THAT TO SAY, I HAVE ALSO DONE QUITE A BIT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING AND SO I AT MARBLE FALLS, IT'S MY FIRST TIME TO BE INVOLVED IN STRATEGIC PLANNING.

I SERVED AS THE INTERNAL FACILITATOR, SO I HAVE STILL ATTENDED QUITE A FEW OF THESE SESSIONS AND NOTHING BUT GREATNESS COMES FROM THEM BECAUSE YOU'RE PUTTING IN THE WORK.

SO I'M VERY HAPPY TO BE HERE.
