WE WILL SEE YOU IN ABOUT AN HOUR. GOOD EVENING.
THE TIME IS NOW 7:08 AND WE WILL RECONVENE IN OPEN SESSION.
I'M GOING TO FORGO THE TYPICAL READING OF THE REMARKS SINCE WE DON'T HAVE ANYBODY HERE TONIGHT READ THESE TWO AND FOLKS ONLINE, DON'T NEED TO HEAR THIS.
WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT ITEM ON
[5. REPORTS]
OUR AGENDA AND THAT IS THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT, JEFF.>> THANK YOU, MR. HAYMAN STRIGHT.
WE HAVE THREE QUICK THINGS, SO WE WANT TO UPDATE EVERYONE ON THIS EVENING.
OBVIOUSLY, SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY ARE TOP OF MIND RIGHT NOW FOR SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY.
WE ARE DOING EVERYTHING WE CAN TO PROACTIVELY MAKE SURE THAT OUR SCHOOLS ARE SAFE, NOT JUST FOR NEXT FALL, BUT ALSO FOR OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF WHO WERE HERE DURING SUMMER SCHOOL AND JUST EARLIER TODAY, AS A MATTER OF FACT, JEREMY TRIMBLE, THE ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR OPERATIONS AND PLANNING, BRED KELLY, WHO IS OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF SAFETY AND SECURITY.
I MET WITH CHIEF MILLS, EXCUSE ME, CHIEF GARRISON AND LIEUTENANT MILLS FROM WESTLAKE HILLS POLICE DEPARTMENT, AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT WHAT WE CAN DO TO CONTINUE THAT COLLABORATION.
TALKING ABOUT EVERYTHING FROM DOOR PROP ALARMS TO CAMERAS TO GATE ACCESS, DOOR ACCESS, ALL OF THOSE THINGS THAT WE NEED TO DO AND WORKING WITH OUR LOCAL AGENCIES, SO SAFETY AND SECURITY CONTINUES TO BE ONE OF OUR PRIORITIES.
THEN ALSO IN REGARDS TO OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF WHO ARE ON OUR CAMPUSES THIS SUMMER, WE HAVE NEARLY 2,000 STUDENTS WHO ARE INVOLVED IN SUMMER SCHOOL AS WELL AS OUR SUMMER CAMPS ACROSS A VARIETY OF CAMPUSES IN THE DISTRICT.
VERY EXCITED TO SEE A LOT OF THE PROGRAMS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE AND STUDENTS WHO ARE ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THOSE.
THEN FINALLY, KUDOS THIS EVENING TO OUR BEST BUDDIES CHAPTER.
YOU NOTICE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE SCREEN IN THE CENTRAL TEXAS REGION, WE CAPTURED THREE AWARDS FOR BEST BUDDIES THIS YEAR.
WE WERE NAMED THE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR, THE ADVISOR OF THE YEAR FOR SARAH OFFSHARZEK, AND THEN ALSO THE BUDDY PAIR OF THE YEAR, SO VERY PROUD OF OUR BEST BUDDIES PROGRAM AND ALL THAT THEY'RE DOING TO BUILD A CULTURE OF INCLUSION AT WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL AND THAT PROGRAM IS COMING TO SOME OF OUR OTHER CAMPUSES VERY SOON.
THAT'S IT FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT THIS EVENING.
>> THANK YOU, JEFF. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? NO.
>> I DON'T HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR DR. ARNETT, BUT I JUST WANTED TO WELCOME YOU AND I'M HAPPY YOU'RE HERE.
I'M HAPPY WE'RE STARTING THIS NEW ERA FOR EANES AND FOR WESTLAKE.
>> I APPRECIATE THAT. THANK YOU.
>> I WAS JUST GOING TO SAY RELATED TO SUMMER SCHOOL IN THE 2,000 STUDENTS ON CAMPUS.
I'M JUST CURIOUS ABOUT THE MINI CONSTRUCTION THAT'S GOING ON IN THE SUMMER.
I'LL REACH OUT TO JEREMY DIRECTLY AND GET A REPORT ON THAT.
JUST CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT'S GOING TO BE SHUT DOWN, WHAT KIND OF CONSTRUCTION WE'LL SEE AND SUCH THINGS.
>> THANK YOU. ANYBODY ELSE? LORD DID I SEE YOUR HAND GO UP.
>> WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE ON TO THE NEXT AGENDA ITEM, AND THAT IS OUR SCHOOL SAFETY HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL REPORT.
>> GOOD EVENING. THIS IS OUR ANNUAL REPORT JUST UPDATING YOU ON OUR SSHAC ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR AND THEN LOOKING FORWARD FOR NEXT YEAR.
THIS OBVIOUSLY IS JUST WHY WE HAVE SSHAC AND LEGALLY REQUIRED, BUT OF COURSE, WE ALSO REALLY ENJOY THE WORK WE DO AND FEEL LIKE IT BENEFITS THE DISTRICT IMMENSELY.
HERE'S OUR PURPOSE AND SO SSHAC HELPS US ENSURE THAT OUR COMMUNITY VALUES ARE REFLECTED IN THE DISTRICT HEALTH CURRICULUM,
[00:05:01]
ASSIST THE DISTRICTS IN WORKING TOWARD IMPLEMENTATION OF COORDINATED HEALTH PROGRAMS AND REALLY THEY JUST BRING A VARIETY OF EXPERIENCE AND WEALTH OF KNOWLEDGE FROM THE COMMUNITY TO HELP US WITH OUR SAFETY AND HEALTH ISSUES.IT'S JUST A SUMMARY OF WHAT WE'VE WORKED ON THIS YEAR, SO IN TERMS OF WE HAD THE LEGISLATIVE UPDATES, SO THAT'S ALWAYS A BIG TIME FOR US AT THE VERY FIRST COUPLE OF MEETINGS OF WHAT CHANGED AND SO AFTER THE LAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
I WORK REALLY CLOSELY WITH ALISON ON A LOT OF THAT RELATED TO HEALTH.
I'M OVER THE NURSES AND SO A LOT OF THAT FALLS UNDER THERE.
THEN WE HAVE BRAD SHIELDS, WHO'S A MEMBER OF SSHAC, WHO'S ALSO REALLY VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE AND HELPS US KEEP TRACK OF EVERYTHING THAT'S RELATED TO AND FALLS UNDER SSHAC.
OBVIOUSLY, YOU GUYS KNOW, WE TALKED ABOUT THE HUMAN SEXUALITY PART IN SSHAC'S ROLE IN THAT, THAT THAT CHANGED IN THE LAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION.
THERE WERE DIFFERENT VARIOUS LAWS THAT WERE PASSED AND YOU CAN SEE THE AREAS THAT THOSE WERE PASSED IN AND SO SOME OF THE WORK THAT WE DID WAS AROUND THAT.
RICHARD MALLARD CAME INTO THE PRESENTATION TO US AROUND THE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH PROGRAMS. AS YOU GUYS REMEMBER, WE HAD A NEW INITIATIVE THIS YEAR AND WE WERE OFFERING FREE BREAKFAST AND LUNCH AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.
HE ALSO TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE FINANCES AND THEN JUST SOME CHALLENGES THAT THEY WERE HAVING THAT WE'RE SEEING OBVIOUSLY NATIONWIDE WITH THE COST GOING UP AND THEN SUPPLY CHAIN ISSUES.
HEIDI SAUER CAME AND TALKED TO US.
SHE HAD UPDATED THE CONTACT CRISIS INFORMATION FOR ALL OF THE CAMPUSES, WHICH IS REALLY HELPFUL.
YOU HAD A MEMO EARLIER THIS YEAR ABOUT THE TEACH-OUT PROGRAM THAT WE'RE STARTING AND SHE HAD TALKED ABOUT THAT AT THE SUMMIT, AND THEN ALSO JUST THE DIFFERENT SCHOOL LEVEL SUPPORTS.
WE DID HAVE A PRESENTATION BY MARK GOODEN.
DR. GOODEN CAME AND I THINK JANUARY AND IT BASICALLY UPDATED US ON ALL THE WORK THAT THEY HAD BEEN DOING JUST TO KEEP US APPRISED OF THAT.
LAURIE TALKED ABOUT EMPLOYEE WELLNESS.
PRETTY MUCH EVERY MEETING THAT WE HAD, WE DID SOME COVID UPDATE.
I THINK THIS WAS AROUND DECEMBER OR JANUARY WHEN WE HAD REALLY SEEN THAT SPIKE IN OMICRON, SO LAURIE TALKED ABOUT WHAT HR WAS DOING TO HELP SUPPORT OUR STAFF IN THAT AREA.
SCHOOL SAFETY. MATT GREER CAME AND DID A PRESENTATION TALKING ABOUT PREVENTION, PREPAREDNESS, AND RESPONSE.
OBVIOUSLY ALL THINGS THAT ARE VERY IMPORTANT ALWAYS AND RECENTLY, DEFINITELY MORE ON OUR MINDS.
THEN AS YOU ALL WERE INVOLVED IN A LOT OF DISCUSSION AROUND THE HEALTH CURRICULUM, WE DID ALSO WORK ON THAT THIS YEAR.
AS I MENTIONED, WE HAD MONTHLY COVID UPDATES.
WE DID SOME DRIVE UP TESTING THIS YEAR.
WE DID HOST A VACCINATION CLINIC AND THEN WE MAINTAINED ALL OF OUR DASHBOARDS AND NOTIFICATIONS.
WE JUST LET SSHAC KNOW WHERE WE WERE IN THAT PROCESS SO THAT THEY UNDERSTOOD WHAT WE WERE DOING AS A DISTRICT.
WE HAD OUR SSHAC HEROES PRESENTATION OR RECEPTION THIS YEAR, WHICH WAS REALLY WELL ATTENDED.
WE'RE REALLY EXCITED. WE HAD A LOT OF STUDENT GROUPS.
WE OBVIOUSLY HAD OUR AREA FIRST RESPONDERS, SOMETHING THAT SSHAC REALLY SUPPORTS AND WE LIKE TO DO EVERY YEAR.
I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO TALK ABOUT.
>> MOROM, YOU CAN TALK ABOUT THAT IF YOU WANT.
CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW? I'M DELIGHTED TO BE HERE WITH YOU THIS EVENING.
I THINK UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES AFTER A RECENT TRAGIC EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE ON MAY 24TH, THAT HIT US ALL, GOT WRENCHING TO REALIZE AND KNOW KILLING OF 19 INNOCENT CHILDREN.
THE MOMENT THAT I HEARD ABOUT THAT, I WAS ACTUALLY PARKED IN FRONT OF CEDAR CREEK AND I COULD'VE SAID THIS COULD HAVE HAPPENED HERE.
GOD FORBID, OUR CHILDREN ARE SAFE, BUT THAT STILL REQUIRES US TO TAKE FURTHER STEP TO ADDRESS PREVENTATIVE SERVICES AND THAT'S WHY YOU'VE ADDED THE ADDITIONAL S TO SSHAC, SAFETY.
IT WAS A VERY CRITICAL COMPONENT TO OUR COMMITTEE AND TO YOU AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT.
I HOPE THAT PART OF SSHAC IS IN YOUR ROLE TOO.
YOU HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPAND OUR SCOPE OF SERVICES IN WHAT WE PROVIDE AND GIVING THE CIRCUMSTANCES AND WHERE WE'RE AT, AND THIS IS AT THE UPFRONT MIND IN SAFETY, IS CONCERNING EVERY SINGLE PERSON, INCLUDING PARENTS WHO ARE SENDING THEIR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL EVERY DAY, THEY WORRY.
IN TERMS THAT I KNOW THERE'S A LOT THAT'S HAPPENING ADMINISTRATIVELY, BUT THERE'S NOT A TRANSPARENCY TO PARENTS ACTUALLY,
[00:10:01]
WHAT ARE THE PROTOCOLS? WHAT ARE THE SAFETY MEASURES? PERHAPS AND THIS ALL BOILS DOWN TO YOU EXPANDING, HAVING A COMMITTEE THAT CAN TAG ALONG AND HELP AT EACH SCHOOL TO ADDRESS THESE CONCERNS.MAYBE AN AUDIT OF THE SCHOOL SAFETY, THE PROTOCOLS THAT ARE IN PLACE, AND THEY CAN REALLY COMMUNICATE THAT INFORMATION TO THE SCHOOLS DURING A NEWSLETTER OR A BOOSTER CLUB IN WHATEVER THEY FORESEE AS A SAFETY HAZARD AT ISSUE.
THEY CAN REPORT TO US AND WE CAN REPORT BACK TO YOU AND IT CAN ADDRESS, BECAUSE PARENTS HAVE A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AND THEY'RE AT THE SCHOOL EVERY DAY AND THEY KNOW WHAT HAPPENS AND THEY MAY COME UP UPON ISSUES THAT DOES NOT REALLY NECESSARILY COME DIRECTLY TO YOU.
I HOPE THAT YOU CAN CONSIDER EXPANDING OUR SCOPE TO INCLUDE THAT SAFETY COMPONENT THAT IS REALLY CRITICAL TO KEEP OUR KIDS SAFE AND WELL.
SORRY, I JUST GET REALLY EMOTIONAL ABOUT THIS ISSUE.
NOW, FURTHER ON, AS OUR PLANS MOVING FORWARD, WE HAVE THE NUTRITION AND WELLNESS PLAN THAT WE PLAN TO REVAMP, I GUESS.
WE PLAN TO HAVE A COMMITTEE TO ASSESS AND SEE IF THERE HAS BEEN CHANGES IN TERMS OF OUR VENDORS AND LEGISLATIVE IN COST.
WE'RE CONSIDERING LOOKING INTO THIS HEALTH AND WELLNESS AND NUTRITION PLAN.
MENTAL HEALTH IS A FOREFRONT, THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN ALL DO AND INVEST IN THAT IT'S REALLY CRITICAL TO EVERY STUDENT, BUT FROM THE EARLY AGES ONWARDS.
THAT'S REALLY SOMETHING THAT WE WANT TO PLAN AND ADDRESS, AND ALSO FURTHERING SOME INVESTMENT INTO MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES AND RESOURCES TO STUDENTS IS IMMENSELY NEEDED.
THE HUMAN SEXUALITY PIECE, AS YOU ALL KNOW, THAT WAS AN ITEM THAT THE SSHAC VOTED TO, NOT MOVE FORWARD WITH THE SUPPLEMENTARY RESOURCE.
THEY WANTED MORE OF A INCLUSIVE RESOURCE FOR THE STUDENTS IN GENERAL.
WE'RE GOING TO GO AHEAD AND MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT ITEM AND SEE WHAT WE CAN PRESENT AND MOVE ALONG WAY IN ACTUALLY.
[LAUGHTER] THERE'S A THEORY, IT'S CALLED THE LIFE COURSE PERSPECTIVE THEORY.
I'M NOT SURE IF ANYONE IS FAMILIAR WITH THIS THEORY.
BASICALLY IT'S WHATEVER CHILDREN CARRY ON DURING CHILDHOOD, IT CARRIES INTO ADULTHOOD.
THIS IS REALLY CRITICAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND THE RESOURCES AND THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WE PROVIDE OUR CHILDREN WILL DEFINITELY CARRY INTO THEIR ADULTHOOD.
IN EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE OUTLINED, IT STARTS HERE.
I HOPE THAT WE CAN MOVE ALONG AND TO EXPAND THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND TO PROVIDE THEM WITH ALL THE INFORMATION THEY NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THEIR LIFE AND SAFE.
THAT'S REALLY WHAT I HAVE FOR YOU, AND THE NEXT SLIDE WILL BE OUR MEMBERSHIP APPROVAL.
I AM VERY DELIGHTED THAT WE HAVE SEVERAL INDIVIDUALS WHO EXPRESS THEIR INTEREST INTO SERVING IN OUR COMMITTEE.
WE WANT MORE, THE MORE THE MERRIER.
WE ACTUALLY HAVE DISCUSSED ABOUT HOW TO REACH OUT TO PARENTS TO KNOW, BECAUSE WE DO REALLY IMPORTANT WORK ON THIS COMMITTEE AND PERHAPS TEAMING UP WITH BOOSTER CLUBS DURING THE INITIAL ORIENTATION MEETINGS WITH PARENTS.
THEY HAVE A SECTION OF US, SSHAC, TO INTRODUCE OUR PARENTS TO WHAT WE DO AS A WHOLE.
SOME OF THE DECISIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING IS REALLY IMPACTING THEIR CHILDREN.
WE WOULD LOVE TO REACH OUT TO MORE PARENTS AND TO HAVE A VITAL PIECE ENDS.
I APPRECIATE YOU ALL AND THANK YOU.
ALSO ONE LAST THING YOU SEE, EMPATHY BEGINS ON YOUR TABLE.
[LAUGHTER] I HOPE THAT YOU ALL, EVERY DECISION THAT YOU MAKE IS BASED ON EMPATHY AND PUTTING YOURSELF IN PEOPLE'S SHOES.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I THINK THAT BRINGS US TO THE END OF YOUR REPORT.
ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS THAT ANYBODY HAS? JAMES? LET HER GO FIRST. [LAUGHTER] HEATHER? THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR REPORT.
I JUST WANTED TO SAY THAT I REALLY LIKED YOUR IDEA OF PARTNERING WITH THE BOOSTER CLUBS TO ALLOW MORE PARENTS TO UNDERSTAND WHAT SSHAC IS AND TO GIVE THEM ACCESS TO THOSE MEETINGS OR TO TELL THEM ABOUT THE MEETINGS SO THAT THEY CAN HAVE ACCESS TO THEM.
BECAUSE I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE PARENTS ENGAGED IN THIS.
I KNOW IT USED TO BE A LITTLE BIT HARDER TO FIGURE OUT WHEN SSHAC MET.
I THINK YOU GUYS HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB OF MAKING IT MORE ACCESSIBLE.
BUT THANK YOU FOR THAT AND FOR YOUR WORK.
[00:15:04]
ELLEN.THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE REPORT AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THE WORK THAT YOU ALL HAVE DONE THROUGH SSHAC THIS YEAR.
CERTAINLY IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS, I'VE BEEN EVEN MORE GRATEFUL FOR THE COOPERATION THAT YOU FORGE WITH OUR FIRST RESPONDERS AND HOW I THINK WE'RE BLESSED IN THIS COMMUNITY TO HAVE A UNIT WHO KNOW HOW TO WORK TOGETHER FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR CHILDREN.
THE FACT THAT THAT OCCURS WAS A SMALL BIT OF GOOD NEWS I FELT FOR OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY.
I'M INTRIGUED THAT SSHAC CAN ACTUALLY HAVE ADDITIONAL MEMBERS OR OUR PARENTS.
I FREQUENTLY GET ASKED, HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED IN THE DISTRICT? IS THIS SOMETHING THAT YOU MIGHT TAKE SUGGESTIONS FROM US OR SHOULD WE SEND PEOPLE TO WHOM, IF THEY ARE INTERESTED? YOU CAN DEFINITELY SEND THEM TO LAURIE OR I IF THEY'RE INTERESTED.
THE MEMBERS THAT IF IT'S IN YOUR PACKET, SO AT THE NEXT MEETING, YOU ALL DO APPROVE THOSE MEMBERS, AND SO THAT WOULD BE THE COMMITTEE AND WE DO HAVE REPRESENTATION FROM EVERY CAMPUS.
BUT THIS YEAR WE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO SERVED JUST ALMOST IN AN AD HOC ROLE.
THEY CAME AND THEY JUST PARTICIPATED, THEY LISTENED.
SOME OF THEM HAD EXPERTISE IN A CERTAIN AREA.
THEY WEREN'T NECESSARILY ON THE COMMITTEE TO VOTE IF WE HAD TO DO A VOTE, BUT THEY HAD EXPERTISE IN AN AREA THAT WE RELIED ON.
WE'RE ALWAYS INTERESTED IN PEOPLE COMING THAT CAN SHARE WHATEVER AREA THAT THEY WOULD WANT TO TALK ABOUT. THAT'S GREAT.
ONE POINT THAT I WANT, EVERY YEAR WE HAVE THE HONORING OUR HEROES IN OUR COMMUNITY.
DURING THAT EVENT THAT WE HAD LAST MONTH, MY GOD, TIME IS FLYING.
ONE OF THE FIRST RESPONDERS CAME UP TO ME AND THANKED ME FOR THIS EVENT.
SHE'S LIKE, WE DON'T GET ACKNOWLEDGE OR THANKED FOR THE WORK WE DO AND WE REALLY APPRECIATE THE COMMUNITY AND AIMS FOR ACKNOWLEDGING OUR EFFORTS.
YOU PERSONALLY CAME AND REALLY APPRECIATED THIS SMALL GESTURE THAT WE HAD.
THANK YOU. JAMES? I'M GRATEFUL TO THE COMMITTEE FOR THE WORK THAT THEY'RE DOING AND IT'S VERY IMPORTANT.
I KNOW THAT IN THE BEGINNING YOU SHOWED SLIDES THAT SHOWED LEGAL REASONS WHY WE HAVE THIS COMMITTEE.
BUT IN OUR BOARD PRIORITIES, WE SPECIFICALLY MENTIONED SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH, SOCIAL WELL-BEING, RESILIENCY.
THESE ARE BOARD PRIORITIES AND SO YOU HAVE THE BACKING OF THE BOARD AND WE APPRECIATE YOU.
I JUST WANTED TO EXPRESS THAT GRATITUDE.
I DID WANT TO SAY I LIKE THE IDEA OF ADDING COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND I SIT HERE AND THINK WE HAVE RETIRED LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL OFFICERS IN OUR COMMUNITY THAT WE COULD PROBABLY DRAW UPON FOR SOME OF THAT SAFETY PIECE AS WELL.
I'M NOT TRYING TO RECOMMEND THAT WE CHANGE WHAT YOU'RE GOING TO PRESENT TO US FOR VOTE ON JUNE 21ST.
BUT I LIKE THAT IDEA OF BRINGING IN THESE COMMUNITY SPECIALISTS WHO MAY BE ABLE TO COME IN AND GIVE SUPPORT AND HELP AND COMMENTARY AS NEEDED. THANK YOU.
THANK YOU. ANYBODY ELSE? LAURA.
>> THANK YOU. IT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE YOU AND SEE ALL OF YOU ALL AGAIN.
THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP THE SAFETY ISSUE.
[NOISE] CAN WE GET SOME INFORMATION ON THE CHARGE AND THE PARAMETERS OF THIS COMMITTEE?
>> SO THAT MAYBE WE COULD LOOK AT THAT AND JUST MAKE SURE [OVERLAPPING] THAT WE'RE COVERING EVERYTHING THAT WE WANT TO HAVE COVERED.
ALSO, OUR STUDENTS CAN'T LEARN IF THEY DON'T FEEL SAFE.
REALLY THE WORK THAT THIS COMMITTEE DOES IS THE FOUNDATION FOR [NOISE] LEARNING AND WITHOUT THAT OUR TEACHERS CAN'T DO WHAT THEY NEED TO DO, SO THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH.
YOU ALL HAVE A GREAT COMMITTEE, I WOULD LIKE TO CHALLENGE YOUR COMMITTEE TO BE INVOLVED AND TO BE ACTIVE, AND WE NEED THEIR VOICE.
THEIR VOICES NEED TO BE HEARD SO I REALLY WOULD LOVE TO SEE STRONG PARTICIPATION WITHIN THIS COMMITTEE GOING FORWARD.
THANK YOU ALL. IT'S A LOT OF WORK AND YOU HAVE A LOT OF HEAVY LIFTING IN THE COMING YEAR SO THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU. IT'S REALLY MEANINGFUL WORK.
I THINK DURING COVID, WELL COVID STILL EXISTS [NOISE], BUT OUR MEETINGS WERE REMOTE AND THE TIMING WAS NOT FEASIBLE FOR EVERYONE.
WE'RE HOPING NEXT ACADEMIC YEAR THAT WE'LL BE IN-PERSON AT 4:30
[00:20:02]
ONCE THE HIGH SCHOOL IS OVER AND WE HAVE STUDENT MEMBERS WHO CAN COME AND ATTEND OUR MEETINGS.IN THE PAST WE'VE ACTUALLY HAD THIS ROOM FULL OF STUDENTS AND PARENTS WHO ATTENDED OUR SSHAC MEETINGS AS WELL.
>> OKAY, THANK YOU. ANYBODY ELSE?
>> CAN I JUST MENTION TOO TO ECHO THE EMPHASIS ON SCHOOL SAFETY AND SECURITY.
IN ADVANCE OF THE JUNE 21ST MEETING, WE ANTICIPATE PROVIDING THE BOARD WITH AN UPDATE ON ALL OF THE CONVERSATIONS OCCURRING TO TRY TO BOLSTER SAFETY AND SECURITY IN THE DISTRICT, SO YOU CAN LOOK FOR THAT.
THEN ALSO AT THE JUNE 21ST MEETING, ENVISIONINGS THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE TO THE BOARD IS GOING TO PRESENT AND THEY PROBABLY WILL REFERENCE SOME FACILITY UPGRADES IN THE FUTURE THAT MAY ALSO HELP WITH SAFETY AND SECURITY.
>> I JUST WANT TO THANK MOLLY AND LAURIE FOR ALL THEIR WORK AND EFFORTS ON THIS COMMITTEE.
>> PLEASE RELAY, ALL THANKS TO YOU TODAY.
[NOISE] YOU GUYS HAVE WORKED EXTRA HARD TO SHARE AND WE APPRECIATE IT.
>> WE THOUGHT THE PANDEMIC WASN'T ENOUGH, [LAUGHTER] [OVERLAPPING] SO WE THREW OTHER THINGS TO AMBITION.
>> THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS THE OPEN FORUM PORTION OF OUR MEETING.
NOBODY SIGNED UP TO SPEAK TO US THIS EVENING SO WE MOVE ON TO THE DISCUSSION PORTION OF THE MEETING.
[7.1. 2022-23 Enrollment Projections]
THE FIRST ITEM THERE.THE ONLY ITEM THERE IS A '22-'23 ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS AND WELL.
>> WHILE JEREMY TRIMBLE AND RACHEL HIGGINS ARE JOINING US, I JUST WANT TO COMMEND THEM.
A LOT OF WORK HAS GONE INTO PUTTING TOGETHER OUR PRELIMINARY ENROLLMENT FOR THE UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.
IN FACT, THEY MET WITH ALL OF THE PRINCIPLES LAST THURSDAY EXTENSIVELY TO REVIEW CLASS SIZES AND ENROLLMENTS AND ALSO TO LOOK AT WHERE WE MIGHT HAVE SPACE FOR ADDITIONAL STUDENTS SUCH AS TRANSFERS.
YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE LATEST INFORMATION REFLECTED IN WHAT THEY'LL PRESENT TO YOU TONIGHT.
I THINK THESE ARE NUMBERS THAT YOU WERE JUST COMPILING AND TRYING TO PUT THE FINE TOUCHES ON AS EARLY AS THIS AFTERNOON, SO THIS IS HOT OFF THE PRESS.
>> THANK YOU, DR. ARNETT, TRUSTEES, AND YES, OBVIOUSLY, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION.
WE MAKE A LOT OF DECISIONS BASED ON THIS INFORMATION.
I'M VERY GRATEFUL FOR RACHEL AND EVERYONE THAT'S BEEN [INAUDIBLE] DATA.
THERE'S A LOT OF WORK THAT'S INVOLVED AND I THINK EVERYONE HERE UNDERSTANDS ALL THE WORK THAT GOES INTO THIS.
BUT I HOPE THAT THIS PRESENTATION REFLECTS ALL THAT HARD WORK THAT WAS DONE.
NOT ONLY BY RACHEL BUT ALSO OUR CAMPUS PRINCIPALS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO TRANSFERS AND TRYING TO REALLY EVALUATE THEIR CAMPUS AND HOW WE CAN BE AS EFFICIENT AS POSSIBLE.
BUT WE TALKED ABOUT LAST TIME THE PROCESSES THAT WE GO THROUGH, THE WORKFLOW AND WE WERE EARLY ON IN THOSE PROCESSES.
BUT NOW WE'VE BEEN THROUGH THOSE PROCESSES AND SO I WANTED TO ALLOW RACHEL REAL QUICK TO RUN DOWN WHAT THAT WORKFLOW LOOKS LIKE AND WHAT OUR ACTUAL NEXT STEPS ARE BECAUSE THESE AGAIN, ARE STILL PRELIMINARY BUT WE'RE REALLY CLOSE TO BEING ABLE TO FINALIZE THESE AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE SUMMER, SO RACHEL.
>> THANK YOU. GOOD TO SEE YOU ALL. HAPPY SUMMER.
AS WE SHARED EARLIER THIS YEAR, WE STARTED OUR NEW STUDENT ONLINE ENROLLMENT.
THAT'S ALWAYS THE KICKOFF, MARCH 1.
THAT'S PAIRED WITH THE STUDENT INFORMATION VERIFICATION AS WELL AS RETURNING TRANSFER APPLICATIONS, RESIDENCY VERIFICATIONS, GRADE 6 RISING 6 AND 9, AND THEN WE TALKED ABOUT SPANISH IMMERSION AS WELL.
ALL OF THOSE WORKFLOWS KICKED OFF, SEVERAL OF THEM CLOSED, MANY OF THEM CONTINUE.
THOUGH EACH ONE OF THESE DATA SETS CONTRIBUTE TO THE NUMBERS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT TONIGHT.
WE'RE WORKING ON STREAMLINED WORKFLOWS AND HOW WE DO THIS.
CAMPUS TEAMS WORK DILIGENTLY ON THESE NUMBERS IN COLLECTING AND PARTNERING WITH FAMILIES.
COLLECTING INFORMATION, THERE'S NOT A RELUCTANCE, THERE'S JUST AN OVERWHELMING AMOUNT OF INFORMATION.
FOR FAMILIES TO BE ABLE TO SLOW DOWN AND PROVIDE THE DATA POINTS THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR, IT TAKES A LOT OF PERSONAL TOUCH AND OUR CAMPUS TEAMS ARE FABULOUS AT DOING THAT.
WITH ALL OF THAT, WE HAVE PRELIMINARY INFORMATION THAT JEREMY HAS AVAILABLE FOR US HERE.
>> AS YOU'LL SEE IN APRIL, THE NUMBER, ENROLLMENT, WAS PROJECTED AT 7,757.
WE'LL PRESENT AT 57, DEMOGRAPHER PROJECTION WAS 56.
CURRENTLY, AS WE STAND, WE ARE SITTING AT 7,770 STUDENTS AND SO WE DID EXCEED THAT NUMBER BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO REMEMBER THE CONVERSATIONS WE HAD AROUND BUDGET COMPENSATION AND SO WE INCREASE THAT TARGET TO 7,875.
WE ARE SHORT OF THAT, APPROXIMATELY 100 STUDENTS, BUT I THINK WE ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE STILL IN JUNE
[00:25:05]
AND THIS IS STILL A VERY FLUID PROCESS.WE WILL STILL GET STUDENTS OVER THIS SUMMER NO MATTER WHAT AND SO WE WILL CLOSE THAT GAP AS WE MOVE THROUGH, ESPECIALLY IN JULY.
DO WE KNOW EXACTLY WHERE WE'RE GOING TO LAND? WE DO NOT.
BUT I AM VERY CONFIDENT THAT WE'RE GOING TO CLOSE THAT GAP WITH ADDITIONAL STUDENTS COMING INTO THE DISTRICT.
ALSO, NO SURPRISE KINDER ENROLLMENT WAS DOWN BUT WE EXPECT THAT.
WE'VE BEEN TOLD THAT AND WITH THAT WE REALLY FOCUSED ON OUR TRANSFERS AS WELL AT THE KINDER LEVEL TO TRY TO FILL IN THOSE SECTIONS WITH AS MANY TRANSFERS AS WE COULD TO UP THAT NUMBER AND INCREASE ENROLLMENT ACROSS THE KINDER LEVEL.
BUT ALSO LEAVE ROOM FOR ADDITIONAL STUDENTS THAT MAY MOVE IN.
OBVIOUSLY, THE MOST DIFFICULT TARGET TO HIT IS THAT KINDER NUMBER.
WITH THAT INFORMATION, VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS CHART.
BUT THIS HAS ALL THAT UPDATED INFORMATION ACROSS THE CAMPUSES AND WHAT THAT BREAKDOWN LOOKS LIKE.
THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE VERY VERY CONSISTENT.
THEY'VE BEEN CONSISTENT FOR A LONG TIME.
THE HIGH SCHOOL IS PRETTY CONSISTENT AS WELL.
UNDERSTAND THAT 2828 NUMBER INCLUDES 22 EIGHT-YEARS STUDENTS INCLUDED WITHIN THAT NUMBER.
BUT AS YOU SEE THROUGH OUR ELEMENTARY, NOT A WHOLE LOT OF MOVEMENT FROM APRIL ON THE NUMBER OF PRELIMINARY SECTIONS BUT THERE IS DIFFERENCES IN TOTAL ENROLLMENT ACROSS OUR CAMPUSES.
YOU WILL SEE VALLEY VIEW IS AT 303 STUDENTS.
THEY HAVE A VERY LOW KINDER NUMBER AND ACTUALLY A LOW NUMBER OF TRANSFERS THAT APPLIED FOR VALLEY VIEW.
THAT'S SOMETHING THAT OBVIOUSLY WE HAVE TO CONTINUE TO HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT OPPORTUNITIES WE HAVE THERE.
BUT YOU'LL SEE ACROSS THE REST OF THE CAMPUSES, WE'RE WITHIN THAT 500-600 STUDENT RANGE.
THE CLASS SIZES ARE VERY CONSISTENT ACROSS ALL GRADE LEVELS AS WELL FROM YEAR TO YEAR.
ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS CHART, SPECIFICALLY BEFORE I MOVE INTO SOME OF THE BREAKDOWN ON SECTIONS? [OVERLAPPING] YES, ELLEN.
>> MAYBE I SHOULD LOOK AT THE DETAILED CHARTS BUT THERE ARE SOME CASES WHERE THERE ARE FEWER STUDENTS ON CAMPUS BUT MORE SECTIONS.
YES. IT'S CEDAR CREEK I WAS LOOKING AT.
IS THAT RELATED TO HOW KIDS ARE CONFIGURED OR? THAT SEEMS TO BE OPPOSITE INTUITION.
>> IT DOES BECAUSE WITH SOME OF THE PRIORITIES, WE WANT TO KEEP THAT 22:1 RATIO. THAT DOES.
EVENTUALLY YOU DO HAVE TO ADD THAT SECOND OR THIRD SECTION BASED ON THE TOTAL ENROLLMENT OF THE STUDENTS THERE.
THERE'S SOME OF THAT WHERE YOU MAY HAVE TO INCREASE A SECTION IN AND YOU DROPPED DOWN ON THE ENROLLMENT PER SECTION.
IF YOU LOOK AT THIS SPREADSHEET, YOU WILL SEE SOME OF THOSE INSTANCES.
LET'S POINT TO KINDER AT CEDAR CREEK IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CEDAR CREEK.
IF YOU LOOK AT KINDER TRADITIONAL SIDE, WE HAVE ONE SECTION OF 16, ANOTHER SECTION OF 15.
IF YOU COLLAPSE THAT DOWN TO ONE SECTION, YOU HAVE A SECTION OF 31.
REALLY IT COMES DOWN TO WHERE THOSE STUDENTS ARE COMING IN.
IT DOES LEAD TO SOME SITUATIONS LIKE THAT TO WHERE YOU MAY HAVE NOT INCREASED ENROLLMENT OVERALL, BUT YOU MAY HAVE INCREASED SECTIONS BECAUSE OF THE GRADE-LEVEL CONCENTRATION.
>> JEREMY, IS THAT ALSO A REFLECTION OF SPANISH IMMERSION EMERGING INTO THE FIFTH GRADE AT CEDAR CREEK.
RIGHT NOW BASED UPON THE CURRENT MODEL OF IMMERSION REQUIRING TWO SECTIONS.
>> AS WE SEE THAT ACROSS TWO CAMPUSES, I THINK THAT WOULD BE A SOLID REFLECTION OF THE PROGRAM AT THOSE TWO CAMPUSES WITH BRIDGEPOINT AND CEDAR CREEK.
ONE THING I DO WANT TO POINT OUT ON THE SUBJECT OF SPANISH IMMERSION.
BRIDGEPOINT, FOURTH-GRADE, IF I CAN DRAW YOUR ATTENTION TO THAT.
CURRENTLY, WE HAVE 26 TOTAL STUDENTS THERE.
THAT'S A GRADE LEVEL WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ON AND WHERE WE LAND, WE DO NOT KNOW, BUT THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT WHEN IT'S AROUND THAT 13 THAT 26 SECTION.
TWENTY SIX TOTAL STUDENTS SPANISH IMMERSION AT FOURTH-GRADE IN BRIDGEPOINT.
SOMETHING WE'LL WANT TO MONITOR OVER THE SUMMER AND SEE WHERE WE LAND ON WHERE WE WANT TO BE SECTION WISE.
[00:30:02]
>> THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER TIMES WHEN ENROLLMENT HAS BEGAN TO SLIDE PRETTY PRECIPITOUSLY.
JUST FOR PERSPECTIVE OF WHAT HAPPENED FROM FORD STANDPOINT WAS WE KEPT DOING OUR ENROLLMENT COUNTS THE SAME WAY FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS.
THEN WE REALIZED WE WERE OVERSTAFFED AT SOME SCHOOLS PRETTY DRAMATICALLY VERSUS OTHERS.
THE SOLUTION TO THAT WAS TO INSTITUTE LOOKING AT STUDENT-TEACHER RATIOS BY CAMPUS SO THAT WE CAN AT LEAST UNDERSTAND WHERE WE WERE UNDER STAFFING AND WHERE WE WERE OVER STAFFING.
IT MAY BE PREMATURE TO DO THAT.
BUT SOME OF THESE SWINGS ARE PRETTY DRAMATIC.
WE MAY WANT TO START LOOKING AT THOSE METRICS.
>> I THINK WE ANTICIPATE OVER THE SUMMER, PROBABLY OVER THE NEXT FOUR TO SIX WEEKS THAT WE'RE GOING TO STILL SEE SOME FLUCTUATIONS IN OUR ENROLLMENT.
THERE MAY BE SOME CONSOLIDATION OF SECTIONS STILL IN SOME OF THESE GRADE LEVELS.
>> I THINK ONE BENCHMARK WOULD BE YOUR AVERAGE CLASS SIZES ACROSS CAMPUSES.
JUST OVERALL WE'RE SITTING PRETTY CONSISTENT AROUND 1920.
THAT'S ONE BENCHMARK THAT WE COULD COMPARE CAMPUS TO CAMPUS.
OBVIOUSLY AT VALLEY VIEW, WE ARE AT 17.8.
THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE CAN MONITOR OVER THE SUMMER TO SEE IF THERE WOULD BE ANY OPPORTUNITY THERE TO COLLAPSE SECTIONS.
>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF THIS.
GOING BACK TO THAT FOURTH GRADE SECTION AT BRIDGEPOINT, I HAVE MORE OF A REQUEST BECAUSE I'M A LITTLE BIT OFF TOPIC HERE.
AS I LOOK AT THOSE TWO SPANISH IMMERSION SECTIONS PARTICULARLY WHEN I THINK AHEAD TO THAT GROUP ROLLING UP TO FIFTH GRADE, THAT GIVES ME A LOT OF CONCERN.
MORE OF A REQUEST BECAUSE I KNOW WE'RE NOT TALKING SPANISH IMMERSION TODAY, BUT I'D LIKE FOR US TO HAVE A MORE ROBUST DISCUSSION ABOUT SPANISH IMMERSION MAYBE AT A MORE APPROPRIATE TIME IN THE EARLY FALL.
>> YEAH. WHAT I WOULD SAY IN RESPONSE TO THAT IS WE ARE EAGERLY FOLLOWING THAT.
IT'S ACTUALLY PROMPTED SOME INTERESTING CONVERSATIONS AROUND OUR SPANISH IMMERSION MODEL.
WE THINK THAT THIS MAY PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THERE WHICH ARE GOING TO BE DISCUSSED IN THE COMING WEEKS.
MOLLY, MAY AND HER STAFF ARE ALREADY ACTIVELY ENGAGED IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS.
>> HAVE ALL THE TRANSFER APPLICANTS BEEN TOLD IF THEY ARE ACCEPTED OR NOT?
>> THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION AND THAT WILL IMPACT THE NUMBERS.
NOT EVERYONE IS AWARE WE DID WANT TO HOLD SO THAT WE COULD WIDELY COMMUNICATE SO WE DIDN'T HAVE A LOT OF THE I HEARD SHE HEARD HE HEARD.
WE DO INTEND ON COMPLETING COMMUNICATIONS.
WE ARE SLIGHTLY BEHIND OUR INTENDED TARGET COMMUNICATION TIMEFRAME ONLY BY ABOUT A WEEK.
WE DID HAVE AN EXTENSION OF TRANSFER APPLICATION, SO WE WANTED TO ENSURE THAT WE HAD ALL APPLICATIONS INVOLVED BEFORE WE MADE ANY COMMUNICATIONS.
WE ARE SET. WE'RE READY TO BEGIN COMMUNICATIONS ACROSS ALL THE VARIATIONS FOR TRANSFERS AND SPANISH IMMERSION AS WELL, AND WE'LL COMPLETE THOSE THIS WEEKEND.
>> OKAY. WE'LL KNOW IF THEY HAVE ACCEPTED OR NOT BY OUR NEXT MEETING, HOPEFULLY, MAYBE.
>> I WOULD HOPE SO. I PAUSED WITH THAT.
SPANISH IMMERSION IS A GOOD MODEL TO LOOK AT BECAUSE WE'RE SO FAR ALONG IN THAT WORKFLOW AS IT STANDS.
MANY OF THE FAMILIES WHO DID APPLY WHEN YOU FOLLOW UP WITH THEM TO SAY, WE HAVE A SEAT, IT COULD BE ASSIGNED TO YOUR FAMILY ENDING TRANSFER APPLICATION WE DON'T HAVE MANY TRANSFERS IN THE SPANISH IMMERSION PROGRAM AT THIS TIME, TRANSFERS HAVEN'T BEEN COMMUNICATED.
BUT EVEN FOR RESIDENT FAMILIES, IF THEY CHOOSE THAT THEY'VE MADE OTHER DECISIONS NOW WE HAVE A SEAT AND WE HAVE TO NEGOTIATE DOWN THE WAIT-LIST, THE TIMESTAMPS, ETC, ALL THE VARIABLES THERE.
EVEN WITH THE COMMUNICATION OF TRANSFER STATUS, YOU HAVE TO DO THE VOLLEY WITH THE COMMUNICATION.
[OVERLAPPING] HOPEFULLY BY NEXT WEEK.
>> THANK YOU FOR DOING THAT WORK. THANK YOU.
>> THANK YOU ALL. I LOVE ALL THIS WORK. I LOVE THE NUMBERS.
I ALSO REALLY LOVE THAT WE ONLY HAVE TWO SECTIONS THAT CURRENTLY EXCEED THAT 22:1 RATIO.
CALLED SMALL CLASS SIZES, I THINK HAVE ALWAYS BEEN IMPORTANT.
WHEN PEOPLE APPLY FOR TRANSFERS, DO THEY APPLY FOR SPECIFIC SCHOOLS? YES.
>> THERE IS A PRIORITY OPTION.
>> OKAY. IF THEY CAN'T GET A PARTICULAR SCHOOL, DO WE OFFER THEM ANOTHER? I GUESS WHEN I'M LOOKING AT IS THE VALLEY VIEW DOESN'T HAVE A LOT OF TRANSFERS, AND OTHER SCHOOLS HAVE A LARGE NUMBER OF TRANSFERS.
IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF WE COULD SHIFT SOME OF THOSE OVER.
I DON'T KNOW IF THAT'S A PARENT DECISION OR A DISTRICT DECISION.
[00:35:03]
>> WE HAVE ALL OF IT AT PLAY [BACKGROUND].
AGAIN, DEPENDING ON THE LEARNING PATH, DEPENDING ON THE CAMPUS, THE GRADE LEVEL, WHEN A FAMILY IS COMMUNICATED THAT WE'RE UNABLE TO SEAT AT THE CAMPUS YOU'VE CHOSEN [BACKGROUND] [NOISE] WE DO HAVE YOUR SECOND PRIORITY OR WE HAVE A SEAT AT YOUR THIRD PRIORITY.
YOU'RE OF COURSE, GIVEN TIME TO CONSIDER THAT.
WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL DECLINE THAT THAT SEAT AT AN ALTERNATE CAMPUS AND THEY WOULD CHOOSE TO REMAIN ON A WAITLIST.
>> WITH HOPE THAT THERE WILL BE SHIFTS OVER THE SUMMER MONTHS.
WE WILL HAVE UPDATES ON NUMBERS.
>> THEY WILL BE FLUID. THEY'LL CONTINUE TO BE FLUID FOR A FEW MONTHS.
>> ON THAT 77,70 NUMBER THAT WE'RE SEEING RIGHT NOW, HOW DOES THAT NUMBER TYPICALLY CHANGE OVER THE SUMMER? DO WE THINK WE ADD 25 STUDENTS OVER THE SUMMER USUALLY PER YEAR, OR IS IT MORE LIKE A 100, ANY IDEA? IT'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO BE VERY CONSISTENT.
BUT I KNOW THAT THE HIGH SCHOOL OVER JULY YOU'RE GOING TO SEE PROBABLY AN INFLUX THERE.
IT SEEMS LIKE OUR EARLIER YEARS, THEY'RE MORE PROACTIVE AND GETTING INTO THE SYSTEM FOR NEW STUDENTS.
WILL WE HIT 100? I DO NOT KNOW.
>> WILL WE HIT HALF THAT? I'M REASONABLY CONFIDENT THAT WE WILL HIT 40 TO 50 STUDENTS.
I WOULD HOPE THAT WE'D BE ABLE TO SEE.
BUT YEAH, I DON'T HAVE FACTUAL INFORMATION ON WHAT WE'VE SEEN OVER THE LAST FIVE YEARS OR ANYTHING.
>> KIM AND THEN ELLEN [NOISE].
>> I JUST WANTED TO CLARIFY. AGAIN, THANK YOU.
AS EVERYONE HAS SAID, THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION.
WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE 770 NUMBER, IS THAT INCLUDING WHAT YOU ANTICIPATE IN TRANSFERS OR IS THAT DEFINITIVE ENROLLMENT RIGHT NOW.
>> THOSE ARE THE APPROVED TRANSFERS, BUT SOME MAY DENY THROUGH THE PROCESS.
THAT COULD ADJUST DOWN BASED ON WHAT WE KNOW NOW IN REGARDS TO TRANSFERS.
>> OKAY. [OVERLAPPING] JUST TO CLARIFY, THIS, 770 IS WHAT YOU ANTICIPATE THERE TO BE, KNOWING THAT THERE'S GOING TO BE SOME MOVEMENT AROUND?
>> WE'VE GOT TRANSFERS STILL COMING IN.
ON THE TOPIC OF TRANSFERS THAT HAS CLOSED IN TERMS OF APPLICATIONS AT THIS POINT?
>> WE HAVE CLOSED THE WINDOW AT THIS TIME.
WE NEEDED A SAFE BENCHMARK TO COLLECT EVERYTHING AND BEGIN ASSESSMENT.
>> JEREMY, COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE POSSIBILITY OF KINDERGARTEN BEING REVISITED? I KNOW YOU'VE HAD SOME CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THAT.
>> SURE. WELL, STILL REALIZING THAT OUR KINDER NUMBER IS LOWER AND THERE'S SOME OPPORTUNITIES THERE IF YOU LOOK AT THE SECTION SIZES ACROSS THERE.
RIGHT NOW, WE'RE LOOKING AT ABOUT, I THINK 32 KINDER TRANSFERS THAT WE HAVE BAKED INTO THESE NUMBERS.
THERE MAY BE ADDITIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT WE MAY BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE OUT, PUSH THAT'S GRADE LEVEL SPECIFIC, SPECIFICALLY KINDER FOR TRANSFERS TO SEE IF THERE'S ANY ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY OR OUTSIDE OUR COMMUNITY THAT MAY BE INTERESTED IN TRANSFERRING.
THERE MAY BE ANOTHER PUSH FOR GETTING SOME ADDITIONAL KINDERS.
BUT VERY GRADE LEVEL SPECIFIC.
>> THAT WAS GOING TO BE MY QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT WE HAD A VERY SMALL WINDOW TO SEE IF WE COULD GET MORE TRANSFERS TO GET CLOSER TO OUR BUDGET NUMBER.
IT LOOKS LIKE IT WILL BE SHORT ABOUT 80, WHICH WILL MAKE THEM A DIFFERENCE FROM BUDGET STANDPOINT AND IT LOOKS LIKE UNLESS SOMEONE'S SPECIFICALLY IN SYSTEM SPANISH IMMERSION, WE'VE GOT SPACE IN FIRST GRADE AND SECOND GRADE.
ALL OF OUR EARLY ELEMENTARY AND KINDERGARTENERS OFTEN HAVE A SECOND GRADE EVERY OTHER YEAR [LAUGHTER].
A SECOND GRADE SIBLING, I WOULD ENCOURAGE US TO BE AS BULLISH AS WE COULD AT THIS POINT AND MAYBE ARTICULATE A BIT MORE STRONGLY THAT THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A STUDENT TO ENJOY AN EANES EDUCATION FOR THEIR ENTIRE CAREER STARTS BY GETTING THEM IN EARLY.
>> JEREMY, COULD YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE BUFFER THAT YOU AND THE PRINCIPLES TRIED TO MAINTAIN JUST IN CASE WE SEE AN INFLUX OF RESIDENTS.
>> AS WE LOOK K-3, WHEN WE LOOK COMES TO TRANSFERS AND BUILDING SECTIONS, WE REALLY WANT TO BUILD TO AROUND 19, 20 STUDENTS IF WE CAN THEY'LL ALLOW FOR SPACE FOR RESIDENTS,
[00:40:03]
STUDENTS THAT MAY REGISTER OVER THE SUMMER.THAT'S THRESHOLD THAT WE TRIED TO DO 23 IN YOUR FOURTH AND FIFTH GRADES IS THE THRESHOLD IF WE'RE BUILDING CLASSES AND SECTIONS WITH TRANSFERS, THAT'S THE THRESHOLD THAT WE'RE TRYING TO GET TO IF WE HAVE AN APPROPRIATE AMOUNT OF TRANSFERS IN THAT GRADE LEVEL AT THAT CAMPUS.
>> ANYBODY ELSE? WELL, THANK YOU BOTH.
>> ONE THING I'LL IDENTIFY JOHN REAL QUICK IS OVERALL, WE PRESENTED IN APRIL THAT WE WERE GOING TO BE INCREASING THE FTE ACROSS CROSS THE ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES BY ONE.
THIS IS PRESENTING REDUCING BY ONE SO WE HAVE ONE EXTRA FTE FOR ANY ADJUSTMENTS THAT MADE ME TO BE MADE OVER THE SUMMER.
THAT'S THAT'S A NET DIFFERENCE BETWEEN APRIL AND NOW.
