>> GOOD MORNING. THE TIME IS NOW 7:45 AM AND I CALL

[1. CALL TO ORDER]

[00:00:03]

THE SEPTEMBER 6TH MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO ORDER.

MADAM SECRETARY, DO WE HAVE A QUORUM?

>> WE DO.

>> GREAT. WELL, I THINK I'M GOING TO DISPENSE WITH SOME OF THE TYPICAL PREAMBLE AND JUMP STRAIGHT TO THE FIRST ITEM ON THE AGENDA, AND THAT'S OUR SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT. JEFF?

[3. REPORTS]

>> THANK YOU, MR. HAVENSTRITE. WELCOME BACK, EVERYBODY.

IT'S GOOD TO BE WITH YOU EVEN THOUGH EARLY IN THE MORNING AFTER A HOLIDAY WEEKEND, SO HERE WE ARE.

WANTED TO JUST BRIEFLY UPDATE YOU ON A COUPLE OF THINGS.

ONE PRIMARILY, THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF TALK LATELY IN THE NEWS OF OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THE DIFFICULTY THAT THEY'RE HAVING FILLING THEIR BUS DRIVER POSITIONS.

FORTUNATELY, WE HAVE DONE A GREAT JOB.

OUR TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT ALONG WITH HR HAS KEPT ALL OF OUR POSITIONS INTACT, THEY'RE FILLED, OUR DRIVERS ARE DRIVING, WE'VE MAINTAINED ALL OF OUR ROUTES, SO WE'RE VERY GRATEFUL FOR THAT.

WE'VE GOT A TREMENDOUSLY DEDICATED STAFF OF DRIVERS.

BUT WE'RE ALSO MINDFUL OF THE FACT THAT A LOT OF OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AROUND US ARE RAISING THEIR HOURLY WAGE BECAUSE THEY'RE TRYING TO ATTRACT DRIVERS.

AS A RESULT, OUR DRIVERS NOW, IN TERMS OF THEIR HOURLY PAY, ARE AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF ALL OF THE COMPARISONS.

WE FEEL LIKE WE NEED TO BE RESPECTFUL OF THEM, WE NEED TO DO WHAT WE CAN TO MAINTAIN OUR GREAT CREW OF DRIVERS, AND WE HAVE MADE THE ADMINISTRATIVE DECISION THAT WE NEED TO RAISE OUR HOURLY WAGE BY ONE DOLLAR.

THIS STILL DOES NOT ELEVATE US TO THE TOP HALF OF ALL OF THE DRIVER PAY IN THE AREA, BUT IT DOES AT LEAST GIVE OUR DRIVERS AN INCREASE AND ACKNOWLEDGES HOW IMPORTANT WE BELIEVE THEY ARE.

THIS IS GOING TO RAISE OUR HOURLY RANGE FROM 19.04 AN HOUR TO 20.04 AN HOUR.

ALSO, SLIGHTLY RAISES OUR MEDIAN WAGE AS WELL, PUTS US STILL IN THE BOTTOM THIRD OF ALL THE DRIVERS IN TERMS OF DISTRICT COMPARISONS.

BUT WE THINK THAT THIS IS A WAY FOR US TO SHOW THEM THAT WE DO CARE ABOUT THEM, THAT WE WANT THEM TO STAY IN THEIR CURRENT POSITIONS, AND ALSO HOPEFULLY, PREVENTS THEM FROM LOOKING AT OTHER DISTRICTS NEARBY THAT ARE RAISING THEIR WAGES AS WELL.

WE WORK VERY HARD TO TRY TO MAINTAIN THAT FAMILY CULTURE AMONG OUR DRIVERS AND WE HOPE THAT THEY ENJOY THAT, BUT THIS IS A WAY FOR US TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE IMPORTANCE THAT THEY HAVE TO OUR FAMILIES AND TO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

WANTED TO INFORM THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY OF THAT AS WELL AND WE'LL BE MEETING WITH OUR DRIVERS TO LET THEM KNOW HOW MUCH WE VALUE THEM TOMORROW.

ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT? WE'VE HAD TO DO THIS A COUPLE OF TIMES IN THE LAST THREE YEARS.

OUR FAMILIES DEPEND ON TRANSPORTATION, WE CAN'T BE WITHOUT OUR DRIVERS, SO IT IS A STEP THAT WE'VE HAD TO TAKE AND WE JUST WANTED TO INFORM THE BOARD OF THAT.

THEN FINALLY, YOU'LL NOTICE A LOT OF PEOPLE IN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT ARE WEARING MAROON AND WHITE, THIS IS IN HONOR OF UVALDE CISD.

I THINK THEIR FIRST DAY BACK IS TODAY.

OBVIOUSLY, THEIR SUMMER BEGAN WITH A VERY TRAGIC INCIDENT AND IT'S BEEN A DIFFICULT SUMMER FOR THEM.

BUT WE WANTED TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR COLLEAGUES AND OUR FELLOW STUDENTS IN UVALDE.

SCHOOL DISTRICTS THROUGHOUT THE STATE ARE WEARING MAROON AND WHITE TODAY IN RESPECT TO UVALDE CISD, SO WANTED TO JUST GIVE THEM A MOMENT OF TRIBUTE.

THAT'S IT FOR THE SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT THIS MORNING.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS I CAN ENTERTAIN AT THE MOMENT?

>> ANYBODY? WHERE DID THE FOUR CENTS COME FROM? [LAUGHTER] 19.04?

>> I DON'T KNOW. JEREMY, DO HAVE SOME HISTORY ON THAT? [LAUGHTER]

>> SORRY. I'M JUST NOT GOING TO SHOUT FROM THE GALLERY OVER HERE.

BUT THE FOUR CENTS COMES FROM CURRENTLY BASED ON HOW THE SALARY IS GETTING INCREASED BECAUSE OF THE RACES THAT YOU ALL APPROVE, SOMETIMES IT LANDS ON FOUR PENNIES BEYOND A WHOLE DOLLAR.

CURRENTLY, WE'RE SITTING AT THAT 19.04 FOR OUR STARTING RATE.

IT'S EASIER TO JUST TO GO ONE DOLLAR FOR PAYROLL PURPOSES AND SO THAT'S WHERE WE LAND AT 20.04.

THERE'S NO SPECIFIC REASON FOR FOUR PENNIES, IT'S JUST TRYING TO MAKE IT SIMPLER ON THE INCREASE OF JUST A WHOLE DOLLAR.

>> OKAY. SO MATH IS THE ANSWER?

>> IT'S [LAUGHTER] MATH. YES, SIR.

>> THANK YOU. THANKS, JEREMY.

THE NEXT ITEM THAT WE HAVE IS OUR TEA ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT STAAR AND EOC RESULTS.

MOLLY, CATHERYN, WELCOME.

>> GOOD MORNING. WE HAVE LOTS MORE MATH THIS MORNING, LOTS OF NUMBERS FOR YOU.

CATHERYN AND I WILL BE DOING THE TEA,

[00:05:02]

THE ANNUAL ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT.

IT IS DIVIDED INTO THREE SECTIONS.

THERE'S THE STAAR AND EOC SCORES, THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS, AND THEN THE DISTINCTIONS.

BEFORE WE GET INTO THE STAAR SCORES, SOMETHING YOU'LL SEE A LITTLE DIFFERENTLY IN YOUR PACKET THIS YEAR IS TYPICALLY WE DO A COMPARISON BETWEEN EANES ISD AND STATE SCORES, AND THEN ALSO WE COMPARE OURSELVES TO OUR REGION.

I CAN TELL YOU THOSE SCORES ARE NOT IN YOUR PACKET, I CAN TELL YOU THAT WE FAR EXCEED BOTH OF THOSE.

WE DIDN'T FEEL THIS YEAR THAT THAT WAS AS IMPORTANT AS COMPARING PRE-PANDEMIC TO WHERE WE ARE CURRENTLY, THERE'S BEEN A LOT OF TALK ABOUT THAT LAST YEAR.

WE REALLY FELT LIKE JUST SHOWING US COMPARED TO THE STATE OR THE REGION AND THAT WE FAR EXCEED WASN'T REALLY HELPFUL INFORMATION.

SO WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT THIS YEAR, AND I THINK YOU'LL FIND THAT INFORMATION VERY HELPFUL.

I'M GOING TO TURN THAT OVER TO CATHERYN AND SHE'S GOING TO GO OVER THE STAAR SCORES.

>> GOOD MORNING. THANK YOU FOR HAVING US AND I HOPE THAT YOU'LL FIND THIS VERY INFORMATIVE.

THE CRITERIA FOR OUR ASSESSMENT FOR APPROACHES, MEETS, AND MASTERS HAS NOT CHANGED THIS YEAR.

BUT I JUST WANTED TO REMIND YOU THAT DID NOT MEET MEANS THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE NOT MET THE GRADE LEVEL CRITERIA, AND FOR APPROACHES, THEY ARE CLOSE TO MEETING GRADE LEVEL CRITERIA, THAT'S CONSIDERED PASSING.

MEETS MEANS THE STUDENTS HAVE NOT MASTERED BUT THEY HAVE MET MOST OF THE GRADE LEVEL TICKS, AND THEN MASTERS MEANS THAT THEY HAVE GONE ABOVE THE GRADE LEVEL TICKS.

HERE'S A COMPARISON OF OUR 3RD THROUGH 8TH-GRADE STAAR READING SCORES.

WHAT YOU'LL SEE IS THAT AT THE LEFT SIDE OF EACH GRAPH IN EACH GRADE LEVEL, WE HAVE THE APPROACHES LEVEL.

THAT'S CONSIDERED PASSING AND YOU'LL SEE THAT IN EACH GRADE LEVEL, WE HAVE 90 PERCENT ARE ABOVE FOR OUR APPROACHES.

MEETS MEANS THAT THOSE STUDENTS HAVE MET ALL THE GRADE-LEVEL STANDARDS, AND YOU'LL SEE THAT WE ARE IN 80S AND 70S FOR MANY OF THE GRADE LEVELS.

FOR MASTERS, THAT MEANS THAT STUDENTS HAVE GONE ABOVE IN THEIR GRADE-LEVEL TICKS AND YOU'LL SEE THAT WE ARE, IN SOME DIFFERENT AREAS ACROSS THE BOARD BUT FOR 3RD GRADE, YOU'LL SEE 56 PERCENT, 4TH GRADE, 56 PERCENT, AND THEN YOU'LL SEE A JUMP IN 7TH AND 8TH GRADE, WHICH IS WONDERFUL TO SEE.

FOR OUR 3RD-GRADE READING SCORES, THIS IS A MULTIYEAR COMPARISON.

YOU'LL SEE THAT AT THE LEFT OF EACH BAR GRAPH, THAT IS OUR 2022 SCORE.

WE STARTED WITH THE PRESENT SCORES AND MOVED TO THE PAST.

WE HAVE THE 2022 SCORES, AND IN THE MIDDLE, YOU'LL SEE THE 2021 SCORES, AND THEN 2019, SO THAT YOU CAN SEE WHERE WE WERE PRE-PANDEMIC, WHERE WE WERE LAST YEAR, AND WHERE WE ARE NOW.

ARE YOU ALL ABLE TO HEAR ME? FOR OUR 3RD-GRADE READING, WE ARE ABOVE ARE 2019 PRE-PANDEMIC LEVEL.

FOR 3RD GRADE READING, WE ARE IN OUR TOP THREE FOR COMPARABLE DISTRICTS IN OUR PASSING PERCENTAGE.

IN OUR 4TH-GRADE READING, YOU'LL SEE THAT FOR APPROACHES, WE ARE AT OUR 2019 LEVEL AND FOR MEETS AND MASTERS, WE ARE ABOVE PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS, SO WE'RE DEFINITELY MAKING GAINS IN THAT AREA.

OUR 4TH-GRADE STUDENTS WOULD HAVE BEEN IN 2ND GRADE WHEN THE PANDEMIC HIT.

FOR OUR 5TH GRADE READING, WE HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE CURRENTLY AT, ALMOST AT EACH LEVEL, OR ABOVE.

FOR MASTERS, WE'RE ABOVE OUR PRE-PANDEMIC SCORES.

FOR THIS GRADE LEVEL, IN PARTICULAR, IN 2020, THESE STUDENTS WERE IN 3RD GRADE AND THEY DID NOT TAKE THE STAAR IN 2020.

IN 2021, IF THEY WERE VIRTUAL, THEY HAD, I DON'T WANT TO SAY AN OPTION, BUT SOME OF THE STUDENTS DID NOT COME TO TAKE THE STAAR.

FOR MANY OF OUR 5TH-GRADE STUDENTS, LAST YEAR WAS THEIR FIRST TIME EVER TAKING A STAAR EXAM.

OUR 6TH GRADE READING SCORES ARE CLOSE TO OUR 2019 LEVELS BY ONE PERCENT IN OUR APPROACHES LEVEL.

IN MEETS, WE ARE ALMOST AT THAT LEVEL AND THEN YOU'LL SEE THAT WE ARE AT OUR MASTER'S LEVEL FOR 6TH-GRADE READING.

IN 7TH GRADE, WE HAVE HAD GAINS IN OUR MEETS,

[00:10:02]

AND IN OUR MASTERS, WE WENT IN 2019 AT 63 PERCENT, AND NOW WE'RE AT 72 PERCENT.

YOU'LL SEE WITH 8TH GRADE, WE'RE ALMOST AT OUR PRE-PANDEMIC LEVEL IN MANY OF THE CATEGORIES.

FOR APPROACHES, WE'RE ONE PERCENT ABOVE, FOR MEETS WE ARE SLIGHTLY BELOW, AND THEN FOR MASTERS, WE ARE ONE PERCENT WITHIN THAT RANGE.

IN OUR 3RD THROUGH 8TH-GRADE MATH SCORES, YOU'LL SEE THAT FOR 3RD GRADE, WE ARE ABOVE IN EVERY CATEGORY, APPROACHES, MEETS, AND MASTERS.

IN OUR 4TH GRADE MATH, WE ARE CLOSE TO OUR 2019 LEVELS.

WE HAD BIG GAINS IN OUR MIDS LEVEL COMPARED TO LAST YEAR.

WE'RE UP FROM 59 PERCENT TO 74 PERCENT AND THAT'S JUST IN ONE YEAR.

FOR OUR 5TH GRADE MATH, WE AGAIN, THESE ARE STUDENTS WHO MAYBE HAVE NEVER TAKEN A STAAR TEST IN THEIR ACADEMIC CAREERS.

WE ARE GETTING CLOSER TO OUR PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS FOR OUR 5TH GRADE MATH.

IN OUR 6TH GRADE MATH SCORES, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE ABOVE IN EVERY LEVEL.

THAT'S A WONDERFUL THING TO SEE FOR US AND OUR MASTERS HAS INCREASED.

OUR MEETS HAS INCREASED AND OUR APPROACHES HAS INCREASED FOR OUR 6TH GRADE MATH STUDENTS.

FOR 7TH GRADE MATH STUDENTS, WE ARE ABOVE OUR 2019 MASTERS LEVEL.

OUR MEETS WE ARE INCREASING THAT.

WE'RE ABOVE WHAT WE WERE LAST YEAR.

IN OUR APPROACHES, WE ARE WITHIN ONE PERCENT OF WHERE WE WERE IN 2019.

FOR OUR 8TH GRADE MATH YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE INCREASING OUR SCORES FROM LAST YEAR.

WE'RE GETTING CLOSER TO THOSE 2019 LEVELS.

IN THIS SLIDE, WE HAVE JUST OUR APPROACHES LEVEL FOR EACH OF THESE CATEGORIES.

WE HAVE OUR 5TH GRADE SCIENCE SCORES.

THIS IS JUST OUR APPROACHES LEVEL AND YOU CAN SEE THE COMPARISON FROM 2019 ALL THE WAY TO 2022.

WE HAVE HAD A SLIGHT DIP.

AGAIN, OUR 5TH GRADE STUDENTS MOST OF THEM HAVE NEVER TAKEN A STAAR TEST BEFORE.

WE'VE CHANGED SOME OF THE WAYS THAT WE ARE DOING OUR SCIENCE CURRICULUM.

FOR MANY STUDENTS LAST YEAR, BECAUSE OF COVID PRECAUTIONS, THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO DO A LOT OF THE HANDS-ON AND PARTNER WORK IN LABS.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS THIS YEAR AND ALSO WE HAVE CHANGED OUR MINUTES ACROSS THE MASTER SCHEDULE FOR ALL OF OUR SCIENCE AND OF ALL THE GRADE LEVELS AND WE ARE WORKING ON IMPROVING THAT.

BUT A GOOD NOTE FOR SCIENCE THAT YOU DON'T SEE ON THIS GRAPH IS THAT OUR MEETS AND MASTERS LEVELS HAVE INCREASED FROM LAST YEAR IN THE SCIENCE AREAS.

FOR OUR 8TH GRADE SCIENCE, WE ARE WITHIN TWO PERCENT OF WHERE WE WERE IN 2019 AND THEN IN 8TH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES WE'RE ONE PERCENT ABOVE WHERE WE WERE IN 2019.

FOR OUR EOC SCORES, YOU CAN SEE THAT WE ARE IN THE 90 PERCENTILE FOR APPROACHES IN EACH CATEGORY.

YOU'LL SEE IN ALGEBRA WE'RE AT 94 PERCENT, ENGLISH I 95 PERCENT, AND ENGLISH II 94 PERCENT, BIOLOGY 98 PERCENT, AND US HISTORY 99 PERCENT.

WHAT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE WITH OUR BIOLOGY SCORES IS THAT FOR THE MASTER'S LEVEL, WE WERE THE TOP SCHOOL DISTRICT IN OUR COMPARISON DISTRICTS.

THAT'S WONDERFUL TO SEE.

THIS IS A COMPARISON OF OUR ALGEBRA I SCORES.

AGAIN, STARTING TO THE LEFT, THAT'S THE MOST CURRENT SCORE THAT WE HAVE WITH 2022 AND THE FURTHEST TO THE RIGHT IS OUR 2019.

YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR MEETS DID DROP FROM 2019.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE INCREASED IT BY NINE PERCENT SINCE JUST LAST YEAR.

OUR MASTERS, SAME THING.

WE HAVE INCREASED IT WITH 10 PERCENTAGE POINTS JUST SINCE LAST YEAR.

OUR ENGLISH I SCORES, WE ARE VERY CLOSE TO BEING AT OUR PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS IN OUR APPROACHES AND OUR MEETS AND OUR MASTERS.

WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS INCREASING THAT NUMBER.

YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM MOLLY THAT THAT MASTERS REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE WITH THE ACCOUNTABILITY.

[00:15:03]

WE'RE WORKING WITH OUR EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL TO INCREASE THAT AND TO STRATEGIZE A PLAN FOR THAT.

WITH OUR ENGLISH II, YOU CAN SEE THAT OUR MEETS AND OUR APPROACHES ARE PRETTY CLOSE TO WHERE WE WERE PRE-PANDEMIC AND WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO INCREASING THAT THIS YEAR.

AS I MENTIONED WITH OUR BIOLOGY, WE ARE IN THE TOP WITH OUR COMPARABLE DISTRICTS, ESPECIALLY WITH OUR MASTER'S LEVEL.

YOU CAN SEE THAT THE HIGH-SCHOOL INCREASED BY 18 PERCENT JUST WITHIN ONE YEAR FOR THEIR MASTERS LEVEL AND FIVE PERCENT FOR MEETS AND THIS IS FOR THEIR BIOLOGY SCORES.

FOR US HISTORY WITH MEETS AND MASTERS, THERE WERE INCREASES IN THOSE CATEGORIES JUST WITHIN ONE YEAR.

I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO MOLLY FOR OUR DISTINCTIONS.

>> I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY LIKE IF YOU GUYS HAVE ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT STAAR SCORES BECAUSE WE GO IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION AND IT MIGHT BE EASIER TO DO IT SECTION BY SECTION.

>> THANK YOU. LET'S SEE, HEATHER.

>> ON THE ENGLISH I, I'M TALKING ABOUT THE EOCS.

ENGLISH I, LAST YEAR THERE WAS A GLITCH IN THE TESTING SYSTEM.

DO WE THINK THAT THAT IMPACTED OUR KIDDOS BECAUSE I KNOW MY DAUGHTER WAS IN THE ROOM TAKING IT AND IT WASN'T ANYTHING THAT OUR DISTRICT DID.

IT WAS A GLITCH WITHIN THE WHOLE SYSTEM AND SO THEY COULDN'T UPLOAD THE TEST FOR A WHILE.

THERE WERE BLANK SCREENS.

DO WE THINK THAT THAT IMPACTED OUR KIDDOS AT ALL?

>> IT'S POSSIBLE.

IT'S WITHOUT SERVING THE STUDENTS.

IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT DID IMPACT THEM HAVING TO WAIT FOR IT TO COME BACK ONLINE.

IT COULD HAVE IMPACTED THEM.

BUT THE STUDENTS ACTUALLY WERE PRETTY RESILIENT BECAUSE I WAS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ON THAT DAY AND THEY WERE VERY RESILIENT WITH ALL THE GLITCHES THAT HAPPENED.

>> GOOD. YEAH. IT'S JUST FRUSTRATING WHEN THAT HAPPENS AND IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME THERE'S SOMETHING BUT THIS WAS A LONG ONE.

THANK YOU. IF THERE IS ANYTHING LIKE THAT THAT DOES COME UP THAT IMPACTS TO THE WAY OUR STUDENTS TEST, I THINK IT'D BE HELPFUL FOR US TO KNOW SO WE HAVE THE FULL PICTURE.

>> SURE. JUST TO LET YOU ALL KNOW TOO, THIS YEAR WOULD START 2.0.

EVERYBODY ACROSS THE STATE WILL BE TESTING ONLINE.

PAPER COPIES ARE RARE AND REQUIRE APPROVAL.

YOU NEED TO BE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION OR 504 AND MEET CERTAIN MEDICAL CRITERIA TO GET THE PAPER COPIES.

AS WITH A LOT OF THINGS, WHEN EVERYBODY IS TRYING TO ACCESS TECHNOLOGY IN THE SAME PLATFORM, THERE MIGHT BE ISSUES.

OUR ENGLISH I STUDENTS AND OUR THREE THROUGH A ELA STUDENTS WILL ALL BE TESTING ON THAT FIRST DAY.

IF THERE ARE ANY ISSUES, WE WILL DEFINITELY LET YOU KNOW.

BUT I DO ANTICIPATE THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOME HICCUPS JUST WITH EVERYBODY ACCESSING THAT TEST.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT. YEAH, I TRIED TO GET MY OWN CHILDREN THE PAPER COPY AND YOU BASICALLY HAVE TO BE BLIND AND I'M NOT KIDDING.

>> THAT'S CORRECT. YOU HAVE TO MEET CERTAIN MEDICAL CRITERIA OR YOU HAVE TO BE IN A SITUATION LIKE RESIDENTIAL OR A JUVENILE FACILITY WHERE YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET.

>> THANK YOU. ELLEN.

>> THANK YOU, CATHERYN AND MOLLY.

I LOVE IT WHEN YOU PRESENT THIS DATA TO US.

I'M THRILLED TO SEE THE GAINS VERSUS A YEAR AGO AND THERE ARE A COUPLE OF AREAS, LIKE MOVING MORE STUDENTS TOWARDS MASTERS, THAT I'D LOVE TO HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT, THE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERS, AND OTHER STRATEGIES THAT WE'RE USING.

CATHERYN, I THOUGHT I HEARD YOU USE THE TERM PERCENTILE.

ARE THE NUMBERS THAT WE'RE SEEING, PERCENTILES OR ABSOLUTE PERCENTAGES?

>> THEY ARE PERCENTAGES AND IT'S BASED ON RAW DATA.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT CLARIFICATION.

>> YOU'RE WELCOME.

>> ANY TOP-LINE FEEL FOR HOW THESE SCORES COMPARE WITH OUR MAP SCORES? ARE WE SEEING THE SAME KINDS OF TRENDS IN OUR MAP SCORES? OR IS IT APPLES AND ORANGES?

>> IT'S A LITTLE BIT OF APPLES AND ORANGES IN TERMS OF WHAT IS BEING TESTED IN THOSE AREAS.

I DEFINITELY THINK LAST YEAR FOR SURE, WE HAD SEEN SOME DIPS THOUGH, SO I THINK THE TREND LINE IS PROBABLY VERY SIMILAR, IN TERMS OF WHAT THEY'RE TESTING IN THE CONTENT, IN THE SKILLS IS VERY DIFFERENT.

BUT LAST YEAR WE HAD, ESPECIALLY AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, WHEN WE WERE DOING SOME OF OUR SCREENERS,

[00:20:02]

WE'RE SEEING STUDENTS POPPING MORE WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT JUST THOSE EARLY READING SKILLS AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

THIS YEAR JUST STARTED THOSE SCREENERS SO WE DON'T REALLY HAVE THAT DATA YET, BUT I ANTICIPATE WE'RE GOING TO SEE A STEADY INCREASE, BUT LAST YEAR, DEFINITELY A DECREASE, SO MATCHES THIS FROM THE BEGINNING OF LAST YEAR, WHERE WE DIPPED AND THEN THIS YEAR HOPEFULLY WE'LL SEE A RISE THE SAME WAY WE DID IN THESE STAR SCORES.

>> OKAY, THANK YOU. GENERALLY BECAUSE OF THE WAY WE COMPACT MATH AND HAVE SO MANY STUDENTS IN COMPACTED MATH IN FIFTH GRADE.

THERE'S SOME WONKINESS, IN TERMS OF THE FIFTH-GRADE MATH SCORES AND THE SIXTH-GRADE MATH SCORES.

CAN YOU HELP ME UNDERSTAND, HOW THAT, IF, HAS ANY IMPACT ON WHAT WE'VE SEEN HERE?

>> IT DOES HAVE SOME IMPACT BECAUSE YOU HAVE STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE COMPACTED MATH AND THEY'RE TAKING THAT FIVE SIX AND THEN THEY'RE TAKING THAT LEAP AND THEY'RE TESTING ON SEVENTH GRADE.

THE TOP 10 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS ARE NOT TAKING THAT SIXTH-GRADE MATH STAR AND IT DOES REFLECT IN THOSE SCORES, BUT I WILL MENTION THAT AFTER SOME RESEARCH THAT MR. BURNETT HAS DONE, OTHER COMPARABLE DISTRICTS HAVE THEIR STUDENT'S TEST FOR MATH ON THEIR GRADE LEVEL, SO THEY DON'T HAVE THE SKIPPING THAT WE HAVE.

THEY TEST IF YOU'RE IN SIXTH GRADE, YOU TEST IN SIXTH GRADE.

IS THAT CORRECT, MR. BURNETT? HE'S HERE IN THE AUDIENCE. THANK YOU.

[LAUGHTER]

>> HOWEVER, WE ARE STILL COMPARING APPLES TO APPLES BECAUSE WE'VE ALWAYS DONE IT THAT WAY, SO THE DATA YOU'RE SEEING IS THE ACCURATE DATA, BUT WHEN YOU'RE SEEING MAYBE LOWER PERCENTAGES IN MEATS AND MASTERS, THAT WOULD ACCOUNT FOR SOME OF THAT.

>> RIGHT. I ALWAYS LIKE TO REMIND MYSELF OF THE FACT THAT WE HAVE PURPOSELY THAT THAT'S A GOOD THING.

>> YEAH, EXACTLY.

>> BECAUSE IT REFLECTS THE CHOICES WE'VE HELPED OR MADE AVAILABLE TO OUR STUDENTS.

THANK YOU FOR THE EXPLANATION OF THE SLIGHTLY LOWER SCIENCE SCORES.

THAT DOES MAKE SENSE AND IT'S FASCINATING TO ME THAT SCIENCE HAS ALWAYS BEEN AN ACHILLES HEEL IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AND THEN WE SEE THE BIOLOGY SCORES.

HIGH SCHOOL SCIENCE SCORES ARE ALWAYS AT THE VERY HIGHEST LEVELS, SO THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN A CURIOSITY TO ME AND I'VE ASSUMED IT'S A TESTING ISSUE AS MUCH AS AN INSTRUCTIONAL CURRICULUM ISSUE.

LIKE I SAID, YOU MAY BE GETTING TO IT LATER, I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW, IF WE HAVE THINGS IN PLACE TO TRY AND INCREASE OUR NUMBER OF STUDENTS AT THE MASTERY LEVEL OVER TIME.

>> WE DEFINITELY DO AND WE DON'T GO INTO IT AS MUCH IN THIS REPORT, BUT CHAD AND HEATHER ARE PRESENTING IN OCTOBER AND I THINK YOU GUYS WILL GET A REALLY GREAT OVERVIEW OF EVERYTHING THE CURRICULUM DEPARTMENT IS DOING IN THAT AREA.

>> THANK YOU.

>> LET'S SEE. I'LL COME BACK TO YOU.

I'M GOING TO GO TO LAURA NOW AND THEN JAMES.

>> THANK YOU ALL FOR ALL THIS WONDERFUL INFORMATION AND FOR BEING HERE, ON A TUESDAY MORNING AFTER A LONG WEEKEND.

I JUST WANT TO FOLLOW UP ON ONE OF ELLEN'S QUESTIONS AND I'LL PROBABLY GET THE SAME ANSWER.

SPECIFICALLY FOR ENGLISH 1 AND 2, ARE YOU GOING TO ADDRESS THE THINGS THAT ARE IN PLACE TO INCREASE THOSE SCORES TODAY OR WE'LL DO IT IN OCTOBER?

>> WE'LL TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT MORE IN OCTOBER.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT WE'VE ALREADY MET WITH THE HIGH SCHOOL AND TALKED ABOUT THOSE EOC SCORES FOR ENGLISH 1 AND ENGLISH 2 AND TALKED ABOUT SOME THINGS BOTH LOGISTICALLY, ONE OF WHICH THEY TESTED EVERYONE IN THE PACK LAST YEAR.

THEY'RE GOING TO GO BACK. I DON'T KNOW THAT THAT HAD A SIGNIFICANT IMPACT, BUT THEY'RE GOING TO GO BACK TO TESTING IN THE CLASSROOMS, FOR THOSE SUBJECTS.

WITH SOME LOGISTICAL THINGS, THERE WAS A COUPLE OF FIELD TRIPS THAT HAPPENED AROUND THAT SAME TIME, SOME OF THOSE STUDENTS DIDN'T TEST AND THEN THEY COULD EITHER TEST IN THE SUMMER AND SOME DID, AND IF THEY TESTED IN THE SUMMER, THEY COUNT FOR THIS ACCOUNTABILITY, BUT IF THEY DIDN'T RETEST IN THE SUMMER, THEN THEY WILL TEST IN DECEMBER AND THEY WON'T COUNT FOR THIS ACCOUNTABILITY.

SOMETIMES THERE'S STATE COMPETITIONS OR STATE EVENTS THAT ARE UNAVOIDABLE FOR STUDENTS TO MISS, BUT THEN WE'RE ALSO GOING TO LOOK AT JUST OUR FIELD TRIP SCHEDULE.

THERE'S SOME LOGISTICAL ISSUES, BUT THEN THERE'S ALSO SOME INSTRUCTIONAL THINGS THAT WE WANT TO LOOK AT TO ADDRESSING, ESPECIALLY, I THINK YOU SAID IT WAS AROUND, LIKE INFERENCING AND SOME OF THOSE VERY SPECIFIC CRITICAL READING SKILLS THAT WE ALSO KNOW THAT WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE DATA ANALYSIS FOR ITEM ANALYSIS, THAT WE NEED TO FOCUS ON.

WE'VE ALREADY DRILLED DOWN ON THAT.

>> GREAT. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[00:25:02]

THEN MY OTHER QUESTION IS, ARE YOU-ALL LOOKING AT COHORTS? BECAUSE I'M SEEING A COUPLE OF TRENDS WITHIN THE COHORTS AND WE'RE COMPARING DIFFERENT GROUPS TO EACH OTHER WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT 2019, 2021, AND 2022, BUT THEN YOU CAN SEE WHAT I SEE TO BE MAYBE CRITICAL YEARS, LIKE A PARTICULAR CRITICAL YEAR THAT FELL DURING COVID AND NOW TWO YEARS LATER, WE'RE SEEING THE IMPACT ON THAT AND SPECIFICALLY I'M TALKING ABOUT FIFTH GRADE BECAUSE THOSE SCORES WERE NOT WHERE THEY WERE IN PREVIOUS YEARS.

ARE YOU ALL LOOKING AT THAT AND MAYBE GOING BACK AND SAYING, OKAY, DURING COVID, THESE ARE THE THINGS THAT WE MISSED AND WE NEED TO READDRESS POSSIBLY?

>> YEAH, DEFINITELY. THAT'S A GREAT POINT BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE COMPARING YEAR TO YEAR, YOU'RE NOT COMPARING THE SAME STUDENTS AND SO YOU DO NEED TO TRACK THOSE STUDENTS.

I THINK LOOKING AT THOSE FIFTH GRADERS, ESPECIALLY, WHO WERE FIFTH-GRADE LAST YEAR AND SIXTH-GRADE THIS YEAR.

WE HAVE BEEN DOING SOME OF THAT COHORT ANALYSIS TO RECOGNIZING WHICH GROUPS MAY AT THOSE CRITICAL JUNCTURES MISSED SOME KEY SKILLS IT'S A LITTLE BIT COMPARING ALL SORTS OF DIFFERENT THINGS AND TRYING TO [OVERLAPPING] TRACK THOSE GROUPS, BUT DEFINITELY SEEING SOME OF THOSE TRENDS.

>> MR. BURNETT AND I ARE ALSO CURRENTLY, WE PULLED SCORES FOR OUR STUDENTS AND WE'RE LOOKING AT THOSE COHORTS AND WE HAVE IT ALL THE WAY UP TO OUR NINTH GRADE, I BELIEVE.

>> IT'S INTERESTING BECAUSE [NOISE] THIS FIFTH GRADERS FOR SOME OF THEM, IT WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THEY HAD TAKEN A STAR, BUT ALSO FOR OUR YOUNGER KIDS, IT WAS ALSO THEIR FIRST TIME FOR TAKING THE STAR, BUT WE DIDN'T SEE QUITE THE DIFFERENCE IN THEIR SCORES.

IT REALLY FEELS THAT THAT THIRD GRADE, IN PARTICULAR, IS JUST A CRITICAL AND WE KNOW THAT, BUT IT'S INTERESTING TO SEE THAT DATA, THAT THAT IS A CRITICAL YEAR, INSTRUCTIONAL YEAR.

>> YEAH AND ONE OF THE THINGS AND I MENTIONED THIS BECAUSE WE'LL GO INTO THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS AND DISTINCTIONS, AT THE END OF THE DAY IT'S ALL INTERESTING DATA.

WE TELL THE CAMPUSES TO GO AND DRILL DOWN AND LOOK AT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS.

I CAN SHOW YOU ALL OF THIS DATA, BUT IT'S WHO'S STRUGGLING AND THERE'S PERCENTAGES AND WHEN 82 PERCENT ARE DOING SOMETHING, WELL, THERE'S A PERCENTAGE THAT AREN'T DOING THE SAME THING SO WHAT IS THAT? WE'RE DEFINITELY LOOKING AT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AND THAT'S MORE IMPORTANT TO US THAN THE GLOBAL NUMBERS THAT WE GET.

>> I LOVE THAT. I THINK THAT'S IMPORTANT AND I'M GLAD THAT THE CAMPUSES HAVE ACCESS TO THAT DATA TO REALLY IDENTIFY SPECIFIC STUDENTS AND WHAT'S BEING MISSED. THANK YOU-ALL.

>> THANK YOU. JAMES AND THEN HEATHER.

>> DOCTOR ARNETT, COULD WE LOOK AT THE SLIDE 5/8 SCIENCE?

>> YEAH.

>> I HAD A QUESTION. THE SCALE ON THIS SLIDE ON THE LEFT CHANGES VERSUS ALL OF THE OTHERS.

ALL THE OTHERS ARE 0-100, AND IN THIS SPECIFIC ONE WHAT CATCHES ME ABOUT THAT IS IT MAKES THESE BARS LOOK DRAMATICALLY WORSE THAN THEY REALLY ARE.

>> WE WILL MAKE THAT CORRECTION.

[LAUGHTER]

>> I LOVE THE VISUALS, THAT IT'S A GREAT WAY TO COLLECT OR TO CONSUME INFORMATION, BUT JUST THAT ONE SLIDE WITH THE SCALE.

>> I DON'T THINK WE CAUGHT THAT. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

[LAUGHTER] I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT HAPPENED.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANKS AGAIN. I APPRECIATE YOU HUMOR ME BECAUSE, YOU KNOW THIS IS NOT MY FAVORITE SUBJECT.

FIRST OF ALL, I JUST WANTED TO TOUCH ON SOMETHING THAT WAS BROUGHT UP, BECAUSE MASTERY IS AWESOME. THAT'S FANTASTIC.

THAT'S NOT GRADE LEVEL.

THAT'S ABOVE AND BEYOND WHERE THE KIDDOS HAVE TO BE.

I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S VERY CLEAR.

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

>> THANK YOU. THEN I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR COMMENT, MOLLY, ON MAKING SURE THAT OUR STAFF IS LOOKING AT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT IS SO MUCH MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS BROAD ACCOUNTABILITY REPORT.

ESPECIALLY BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT THE COMMISSIONER DOES NOT SELECT THE CUT SCORES UNTIL AFTER THE TESTING IS DONE.

>> THAT'S CORRECT.

>> I THINK THAT, THAT SKEWS EVERYTHING.

>> YES.

>> IT ALSO INFURIATES ME THAT IF A STUDENT DOES NOT TEST AND THAT'S BECAUSE THEIR PARENTS DECIDE THEY DON'T WANT THEM TO TEST, THEN THEY DON'T GET COUNTED IN THIS RATING AND WE BASICALLY GET AN F FOR THEM, CORRECT?

>> IF THEY DON'T TEST, THEY'RE NOT GOING TO COUNT IN THE ACCOUNTABILITY PIECE.

THEY WILL BE AFFECTED BY HOUSE THEY ARE REQUIRED TO DO THE 30 HOURS OF ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION IN THE SUBJECT AREA THAT THEY MISS.

BUT WE DON'T HAVE THOSE DATA POINTS TO DO THE COMPARISON FOR THE ACCOUNTABILITY.

[00:30:01]

IN A WAY IT DOES HURT US THAT WE DON'T HAVE THOSE SCORES TO COMPARE.

>> HOSPITAL 4545 IS A WHOLE OTHER THING.

>> CORRECT. [LAUGHTER]

>> GOING TO THAT LATER. BUT I DID WANT TO SAY THAT IN THE FUTURE REALLY WOULD WANT TO APPRECIATE MORE INFORMATION ON THE MAP STUFF BECAUSE I THINK THAT BECAUSE IT'S DIAGNOSTIC AND ADAPTIVE AND IT DIGS INTO WHAT OUR KIDS ARE ACTUALLY LEARNING OR WHAT THEY NEED TO LEARN.

WE CAN FIND OUT SO MUCH MORE FROM THAT, IN MY OPINION, I VALUE THAT MUCH MORE THAN ANY OF THIS.

I THINK THAT OUR TEACHERS GET MORE OUT OF THAT ALSO.

AGAIN, TAKE IT WITH A GRAIN OF SALT, I WOULD PREFER THAT WE KNOW EXACTLY WHERE KIDS ARE, AND HOW TO MEET THEIR NEEDS RATHER THAN THE PERCENTAGES AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. COULD YOU PLEASE EXPLAIN 4545 TO THE FOLKS THAT MAY NOT KNOW EXACTLY WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT RELATES TO STAR?

>> SURE. DO YOU WANT GO AHEAD?

>> THERE ARE A LOT OF RULES WITH IT.

THE FAQ IS OVER 100 QUESTIONS.

STUDENTS WHO DO NOT MEET THE STANDARD FOR THEIR SUBJECT AREA, THEY'RE REQUIRED TO DO 30 HOURS OF ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION IN THAT SUBJECT AREA FOR EVERY TEST, NO MATTER THE SUBJECT AREA.

LET'S SAY YOU DO NOT MEET FOR YOUR MATH, SCIENCE AND READING, THEN YOU'RE REQUIRED TO DO 30 HOURS OF ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION WITH CERTAIN CRITERIA.

IT'S A LOWER NUMBER OF STUDENT TO TEACHER HAS TO BE A HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHER TO RECEIVE SOME OF THAT INSTRUCTION.

IT CAN LOOK A LOT OF DIFFERENT WAYS.

IT CAN BE DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, AFTER THE SCHOOL DAY, BEFORE THE SCHOOL DAY.

WE HAVE CAMPUSES THAT ARE DESIGNING THEIR PLANTS.

BUT BASICALLY, IT'S A WAY TO HELP STUDENTS BUILD SOME OF THOSE GAPS THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE.

IF STUDENTS DID NOT COME FOR THE TEST, IF THEY WERE ABSENT, THEY ARE ALSO REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 30 HOURS OF ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION FOR EVERY TEST THAT THEY MISSED. YOU HAVE ANYTHING ELSE TO ADD?

>> WELL, IT'S IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT WE HAVE TO SUPPLEMENT AND NOT SUPPLANT.

IF WE DO IT DURING THE SCHOOL DAY, IT HAS TO BE LIKE POSSIBLY AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, LIKE DURING WHEN OR SOMETIMES THE STUDENT AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL MAY TAKE LIKE THEY CALL IT DIFFERENT THINGS AT THE TWO DIFFERENT MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

BUT WHAT IS IT?

>> COUGAR.

>> COUGAR TIME OR IT'S LIKE A CLASS PERIOD WHERE THEY'LL GET THAT ACCELERATED INSTRUCTIONS.

IF YOU HAVE A 90-MINUTE BLOCK OF ELA, THAT STANDARD, YOU CAN'T PROVIDE ANY OF THAT ACCELERATED INSTRUCTION DURING THAT 90-MINUTE BLOCK, IT HAS TO BE SEPARATE.

RIGHT NOW I'M AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

WE'RE USING SR FUNDS TO PAY OUR TEACHERS TO TUTOR AFTER-SCHOOL, SAME AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

MAINLY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, THEY'RE USING THOSE CLASS PERIODS FOR STUDENTS, BUT THERE IS SOME TUTORING THERE.

WE ARE FORTUNATE THIS YEAR TO BE ABLE TO USE THE SR FUNDS, WHICH WILL RUN OUT AND HOSPITAL 4545 WILL PROBABLY STILL BE IN EXISTENCE AFTER OUR SR FUNDS RUN OUT.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT. ELLEN?

>> FIRST QUESTION. AN ARD COMMITTEE AND A 504 COMMITTEE CAN OPT TO CHILD OUT OF HOSPITAL 4545, CORRECT?

>> YES. WITH SOME VERY STRICT YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT LEAST RESTRICTIVE ENVIRONMENT AND SOME OTHER FACTORS.

IT WOULD NOT BE A STANDARD PRACTICE, BUT IT COULD HAPPEN.

>> THEN DOES THAT MEAN AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL KIDS ARE LOSING AN ELECTIVE.

>> TYPICALLY NOT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, SOME AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL, BUT NOT ALL THE TIME, BUT THAT IS ONE OF THE OPTIONS THAT THEY HAVE.

>> FOR THE RECORD, I'M NOT OKAY WITH KIDS LOSING AN ELECTIVE FOR 4545.

I THINK THAT THAT IS A HUGE DISSERVICE.

ELECTIVES ARE WHAT KID KEEP KIDS IN SCHOOL.

KIDS WANT TO LEARN, SO I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THAT, BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT IT'S NOT OUR IMPLEMENTATION, THIS ISN'T OUR CHOICE ABOUT THAT WOULD NOT BE MY FIRST CHOICE TO AND HOW TO ADDRESS IT, BUT THANK YOU.

>> UNDERSTOOD.

>> ALL RIGHT. I THINK THAT DOES IT FOR THIS ROUND. YOU ARE UP.

>> [LAUGHTER] I'M GOING TO MOVE US ON TO THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS.

OVERALL, YOU WILL SEE THAT OUR DISTRICT RECEIVED THE OVERALL RATING OF AN A.

WE HAD 97 OUT OF 100.

YOU CAN SEE WHAT AN EXEMPLARY PERFORMANCE MEANS AS DEFINED BY TEA.

SERVING MOST STUDENTS WELL, ENCOURAGING HIGH ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, AND OUR APPROACHES GROWTH FOR ALMOST ALL STUDENTS.

MOST STUDENTS WILL BE PREPARED FOR EVENTUAL SUCCESS IN COLLEGE OR CAREER OR THE MILITARY.

THAT IS A NICE GOOD RATING FOR US THAT WE'RE PROUD OF.

THIS IS A COMPLICATED SYSTEM, SO YOU END UP BREAKING EACH ELEMENT DOWN.

WE HAVE THE OVERALL RATING OF AN A AS A 97.

[00:35:03]

THEN THERE'S THREE SUBCATEGORIES AND THEN THERE ARE SUBCATEGORIES UNDER THE SUBCATEGORIES.

WE HAVE STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT, SCHOOL PROGRESS IN CLOSING THE GAPS.

YOU'LL SEE THE SCORES ON THOSE THREE AREAS OF A 96, A 92, AND 100 ON THOSE THREE AREAS.

THE FIRST AREA WE'RE GOING TO LOOK AT SPECIFICALLY IS STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT.

STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT IS NOW MADE UP OF THREE OTHER COMPONENTS.

YOU HAVE STAR PERFORMANCE AND THIS IS COMBINED OVER ALL SUBJECTS AREAS, AND YOU'RE LOOKING AT ACHIEVEMENT AND APPROACHES, MEETS AND MASTERS AT GRADE LEVEL.

THERE'S COLLEGE AND CAREER IN MILITARY READINESS.

THERE'S 10 IDENTIFIED CRITERIA.

I DON'T GO INTO THOSE IN THIS REPORT, I'M HAPPY TO PROVIDE THOSE IF YOU WANT, BUT THERE'S 10 CRITERIA FOR THAT.

THEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT THE GRADUATION RATE WITH A FOUR OR FIVE AND SIX-YEAR GRADUATION RATE.

YOU SEE AGAIN THAT WE HAD A SCORE OF 96 OUT OF 100.

HERE ON THOSE THREE ELEMENTS WERE THE SCORES THAT MADE UP THAT ADDITIONAL SCORE, SO 94 ON STAR PERFORMANCE AND 97 ON COLLEGE CAREER AND MILITARY READINESS, AND THEN A GRADUATION RATE, WE SCORED 100 ON THAT. YES, MA'AM.

THAT'S USUALLY YES WHERE THEY ALL COUNT IN THAT GRADUATION RATE.

THE NEXT AREA IS SCHOOL PROGRESS AND YOU'LL SEE THAT'S MADE UP OF TWO COMPONENTS OF ACADEMIC GROWTH IN RELATIVE PERFORMANCE.

ON HERE YOU'LL SEE THAT WE HAVE A 92, AND I'LL GO INTO THOSE TWO SCORES.

ACADEMIC GROWTH SHOWS THE AMOUNT OF GROWTH OF STUDENTS MADE FROM YEAR-TO-YEAR.

HEATHER, TO YOUR POINT EARLIER, WHEN A STUDENT DOESN'T TEST, IF THEY TEST ONE YEAR BUT NOT ANOTHER YEAR, WE CAN'T DO GROWTH BECAUSE THEY WON'T DO GROWTH OVER TWO YEARS.

IT HAS TO BE BACK-TO-BACK CONSECUTIVE YEARS.

THOSE STUDENTS DO GET DROPPED OUT OF ACCOUNTABILITY IF THEY DON'T TEST IN CONSECUTIVE YEARS.

THAT'S ANOTHER PLACE WHERE THAT DOES IMPACT US.

YOU'LL SEE HERE RELATIVE PERFORMANCE WE HAVE A B AND THIS IS THE ONLY AREA IN WHICH WE HAVE A B, EVEN THOUGH OUR OVERALL RATING IS AN A.

THIS IS A VERY COMPLICATED MEASUREMENT.

THIS IS LOOKING AT YOUR PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS THAT ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED.

IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF YOUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED.

IT'S A SLIDING SCALE.

THE LOWER YOUR PERCENTAGE OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS, THE HIGHER YOUR PERFORMANCE RATE HAS TO BE.

THIS IS A MEASURE PUT IN PLACE.

WE UNDERSTAND AND KNOW FROM DATA AND RESEARCH THAT SCHOOLS WITH HIGHER PERCENTAGES OF STUDENTS THAT ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED TYPICALLY HAVE A LOWER PERFORMANCE.

IF YOU LOOK AT THE GRAPH, AND AGAIN, I CAN PROVIDE ALL THAT INFORMATION, IF YOU LOOK AT THE GRAPH WITH OUR RATE OF ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS, OUR PERFORMANCE WOULD HAVE TO BE AROUND 98-99 PERCENT IN EVERY AREA TO BE ABLE TO RECEIVE AN A IN THAT CATEGORY BECAUSE WE JUST HAVE SUCH A LOW PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS THAT ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED.

THIS IS WHERE WE GET A B IN THIS AREA.

WE'VE MET WITH SOME DIFFERENT FOLKS AND TRYING TO LOOK AT WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO MOVE TO AN A AND OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WE WOULD WANT TO STRIVE TO, BUT A LITTLE BIT DIFFICULT BECAUSE IT DOESN'T TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ANY OTHER OF YOUR SPECIAL POPULATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, OR OUR EMERGENT BILINGUAL STUDENTS.

IT HOLDS DISTRICT LIKE OURS TO A VERY HIGH ACCOUNTABILITY RATE TO GET THAT HIGH PERFORMANCE.

WE DO HAVE A B IN THAT AREA.

IF YOU DRILL DOWN ON ALL OF THE ELEMENTARY OR ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES DISTRICT WIDE.

YOU'LL SEE THAT WE HAVE ANYWHERE FROM, WE HAVE ONE CAMPUS THAT'S NOT RATED WHICH IS MEANING THAT THEY GOT BELOW A C, BUT WE HAVE BS, CS AND BELOW A C IN THAT AREA.

HOWEVER EACH CAMPUS IS STILL AN A OVERALL AND THE DISTRICT IS STILL AN A OVERALL.

THIS DOESN'T COUNT SIGNIFICANTLY INTO THE OVERALL ACCOUNTABILITY, BUT THAT EXPLAINS THE B IN THAT AREA.

YOU CAN SPEND HOURS IN THE MANUAL, I'M GETTING LOST IN ALL OF THIS INFORMATION.

CLOSING THE GAPS IS OUR THIRD DOMAIN.

AGAIN, THIS IS TELLING HOW WELL A STUDENT IS DOING, ENSURING ALL OF OUR GROUPS ARE SUCCESSFUL.

WHEN IT SAYS 100, AGAIN, THIS IS MEETING A TARGET.

IT'S NOT THAT 100 PERCENT OF OUR STUDENTS MET OUR STANDARD WHERE APPROACHES AND MEETS ARE MASTERED, BUT THERE WAS A TARGET AND WE MET THAT TARGET FOR 100 PERCENT OF THE GROUPS.

[00:40:01]

YOU HAVE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AND THERE'S A PERCENT TARGET MET THERE, GRADUATION RATE, ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY, AND THEN A SCHOOL QUALITY.

AGAIN, SCHOOL QUALITY GOES BACK TO THAT COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS.

IN THIS AREA, WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, GRADUATION, ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AND SCHOOL QUALITY, WE MET 100 PERCENT OF THE TARGETS AND GOT 100 PERCENT IN THAT PARTICULAR DOMAIN.

WE ALWAYS LIKE TO COMPARE OURSELVES TO OUR FRIENDS AROUND THE STATE AND SO HERE IS JUST A DISTRICT ACCOUNTABILITY COMPARISON CHART AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE WE LINE UP WITH ALL OF OUR OTHER COMPARABLE DISTRICTS.

VERY COMPETITIVE ACROSS THE BOARD IN ALL AREAS.

WHILE I SAID SPECIFICALLY WE'RE LOOKING AT INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS AND HOW THEY'RE DOING, IT IS NICE TO SEE THESE SCORES AND TO SEE OURSELVES COMPARED ACROSS THE STATE.

WE ALWAYS ALSO PULL OUT WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL TO LOOK AT THAT ACHIEVEMENT, AND AGAIN VERY SOLID ACROSS THE BOARD IN COMPARISON TO ALL OF OUR DISTRICTS.

YOU'LL SEE TWO ON THAT SCHOOL PROGRESS WHERE I MENTIONED THAT ONE AREA WHERE THE WESTLAKE HAS A B IN THAT AREA, THAT IS GOING BACK TO THAT ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED COMPONENT THAT I SPOKE OF AND YOU CAN SEE WHERE ALL OF OUR COMPARISON DISTRICTS ARE TOO.

IT'S VERY, AGAIN, VERY DIFFICULT FOR SCHOOLS SUCH AS OURS TO GET A 90 OR ABOVE IN THAT AREA.

THE NEXT THING I'LL MOVE ON TO IS DISTINCTIONS.

DISTINCTIONS AGAIN ARE ONE OF THOSE THINGS THAT ARE NICE BUT VERY COMPLICATED IN THE WAY THAT THEY ARE ACHIEVED.

WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT DISTINCTIONS, THESE ARE THE AREAS IN WHICH YOU CAN RECEIVE A DISTINCTION.

DISTINCTIONS ARE BASED ON PERFORMANCE AND THE TOP QUARTILE OF A COMPARISON GROUP.

ALL OF OUR SCHOOLS ARE PUT IN A GROUP OF 40 OTHER SCHOOLS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO THEM, AND THEN THERE'S DIFFERENT TRAITS OR DIFFERENT CRITERIA IN WHICH YOU'RE RANKED TO EARN A DISTINCTION OR NOT.

WHAT'S A LITTLE BIT COMPLICATED AND CONFUSING ABOUT THIS IS IS WE HAVE AN EXAMPLE OF TWO OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WHO SCORED THE EXACT SAME SCORE IN PERFORMANCE.

IN ONE OF THE SCHOOLS, ALL SIX OF THE ELEMENTARIES ARE IN THAT COMPARISON GROUP.

THAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, AND I KNOW THIS IS GOING TO SOUND CONFUSING.

THAT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL EARNED A DISTINCTION WITH A CERTAIN SCORE AND IT WAS COMPARED TO THE OTHER SCHOOLS.

ANOTHER SCHOOL WHO EARNED THE EXACT SAME SCORE, NOT ALL OF OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS WERE COMPARED TO THEM AND THEY DIDN'T EARN THE DISTINCTION EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD THE EXACT SAME SCORE.

I SAY THIS NOT TO CONFUSE YOU WHICH I PROBABLY JUST DID, BUT BECAUSE WHILE IT'S GREAT THAT WE EARN THESE DISTINCTIONS, THERE ARE CAMPUSES THAT DIDN'T EARN DISTINCTIONS AND I DON'T WANT US TO LOOK LIKE, WHY DIDN'T THEY EARN A DISTINCTION, BECAUSE SOMETIMES THEY HAD THE EXACT SAME PERFORMANCE.

THEY JUST WEREN'T COMPARED TO THE SAME SCHOOLS.

IT'S VERY COMPLICATED. WITH THAT SAID, WE EARNED 18 DISTINCTIONS.

PREVIOUSLY IN 2019, WE HAD EARNED 22.

YOU CAN SEE THE DISTINCTIONS THERE.

WESTLAKE AND HILL COUNTRY EARNING MOST OF THE DISTINCTIONS AND DOING A REALLY GREAT JOB AND DEFINITELY WANT TO, AGAIN, RECOGNIZE THE SCHOOLS THAT ARE IN THE DISTINCTIONS IN THE WORK THAT THEY DID, BUT UNDERSTANDING THAT THE SYSTEM IS SO COMPLICATED THAT SOMETIMES IT'S HARD TO PARSE THROUGH WHY SOMEONE DIDN'T AND WHY ANOTHER SCHOOL DID.

ATTENDANCE IS ALSO A PART OF ACCOUNTABILITY OR A PART OF THESE DISTINCTIONS.

THAT'S SOMETHING THAT WE DON'T NECESSARILY HAVE ANY CONTROL OVER AND SO WHEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT THE TOP QUARTILE, WE MAY HAVE A SCHOOL THAT BECAUSE OF THEIR ATTENDANCE, DOESN'T EARN A DISTINCTION, AND THAT DOESN'T HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PERFORMANCE OR HOW WELL STUDENTS ARE DOING.

I DON'T WANT TO DISCOUNT THESE BUT I ALSO DON'T WANT THESE TO BE THE BE-ALL END-ALL.

BUT HERE ARE THE DISTINCTIONS FOR THE SCHOOLS.

YOU WILL SEE THERE WERE SOME INTERESTS FROM PEOPLE LIKE CEDAR CREEK, POST-SECONDARY READINESS.

HOW DO YOU GET POST-SECONDARY READINESS AS AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL? THAT'S STRICTLY BASED ON THEIR STAR PERCENTAGES OF MEETS OR ABOVE.

IT HAS, AGAIN, AND THAT'S WHERE IT ALSO GETS CONFUSING WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT POST-SECONDARY READINESS FOR WESTLAKE, OR FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS, A LOT OF DIFFERENT ELEMENTS GO INTO THE MIXTURE TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE DISTINCTIONS ARE.

[00:45:04]

THAT'S THE ACCOUNTABILITY AND DISTINCTIONS.

>> ELLEN, THANK YOU BY THE WAY.

>> THANK YOU FOR THE EXPLANATION OF ALL OF THE DIFFERENT CATEGORIES IT IS CONFUSING.

YOU DO A GOOD JOB OF SIMPLIFYING IT FOR US.

I JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO WHAT SEEMS TO BE A TREND IN TERMS OF CLOSING THE GAPS, BOTH IN TERMS OF SCHOOL PROGRESS, AS WELL AS DISTINCTIONS.

MANY OF OUR DISTINCTIONS ARE CLOSING THE GAPS.

I THINK THAT'S WHERE WE HAVE A LOT OF OPPORTUNITY AND I'M THRILLED TO SEE THAT.

I KNOW SEVERAL YEARS AGO WE ACTUALLY WERE ON A GROWTH PLAN WITH ONE OF OUR SUB-POPULATIONS.

IT SEEMS LIKE WE'RE BACK ON TRACK AND HAVE WORKED THROUGH THAT AT THIS POINT.

>> WE'RE STILL WORKING ON OUR EQUITY PLAN AND THAT WAS SPECIFICALLY FOR OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED.

I WILL TELL YOU THAT WITH COVID EVERYTHING WITH THE STATE AND WHAT WE WERE DOING REALLY TOOK A BACK SEAT.

THEY WEREN'T REALLY FOLLOWING THROUGH.

THEY'VE LET US KNOW THAT IN DECEMBER, THEY'RE GOING TO COME BACK OUT WITH SOME NEW INFORMATION TO DETERMINE WHERE WE ARE WITH THAT.

WE'RE STILL WAITING, BUT WE HAVE BEEN, EVEN THOUGH COVID GOT THE STATE AND ARE AND THEY'RE MONITORING OFF TRACK, WE'VE BEEN DOING A LOT AROUND THAT POPULATION MAKING SURE THAT THERE ARE HIGHLY QUALIFIED TEACHERS CLASSROOMS REALLY TRYING TO FOCUS AGAIN WHEN WE TALK ABOUT STRUGGLING STUDENTS HAVING OUR CAMPUSES LOOK SPECIFICALLY AT THOSE STUDENTS.

WE'VE BEEN DEFINITELY DOING A LOT IN THAT AREA.

>> IT CERTAINLY SEEMS LIKE IT'S WORKING. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, MOLLY, FOR ALL THE INFORMATION. I APPRECIATE THIS.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT STRIKES ME WHEN WE LOOK AT NUMBERS LIKE 97S AND 96S, IS THAT OUR WESTLAKE MENTALITY KICKS IN AND WE WANT TO DO BETTER.

YOU THINK ABOUT WHAT STRUCK ME WAS LIKE PHYSICS.

IF I'M ON A BODY IN MOTION, IT WOULD REQUIRE 50 PERCENT MORE ENERGY IN ORDER TO MAKE FIVE PERCENT MORE SPEED OUT OF THAT OR SOME NUMBER LIKE THAT.

I FEEL LIKE THE LAST THING I WOULD WANT IS FOR A BIG MACHINE TO GET SPUN UP AROUND, INCREASING BY ONE PERCENTAGE POINT HERE AND THERE.

REALLY WOULD RATHER SEE US MAYBE GOING INTO SOMETHING HEATHER SAID, PUTTING ENERGY INTO ELECTIVES, PUTTING ENERGY INTO SOME OF THE FINE ARTS AND THE SCIENCES THAT WITH THE ROBOTICS, THE ATHLETICS, OTHER THINGS THAT REALLY ENRICH YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATION.

BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE WE'VE GOT SO MUCH GOING ON RIGHT HERE.

I'M GOING TO BE VERY CAREFUL TO SIT HERE AND ASK ABOUT, HOW DO WE MAKE ONE MORE PERCENTAGE POINT? BECAUSE I REALLY DON'T WANT THE MACHINES SPUN UP AND SPENDING ALL THAT ENERGY TO THE EXTENT THAT THERE'S SOME THINGS THAT WE CAN GET OUT OF THE NUMBERS THAT ARE, I HATE TO CALL IT LOW HANGING FRUIT, BUT THAT CONCEPT OF OBVIOUS THINGS THAT WE COULD GO ADDRESS, I SUPPORT THAT.

BUT THIS IDEA THAT WE'RE GOING TO GO SPIN UP THIS HUGE MACHINE JUST TO GO A LITTLE BIT BETTER IS PROBABLY THE WRONG APPROACH FOR US TO TAKE, I WOULD THINK SO.

I APPRECIATE THE WORK YOU'RE DOING AND THE ATTENTION TO THIS DETAIL.

>> THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE THAT.

>> ANYBODY ELSE?

>> JUST ONE LAST THING WE DID MENTION STAR 2.0.

THERE IS A REDESIGN OF STAR IN WHICH THERE WILL BE OPEN RESPONSES ON EACH PART OF THE STAR EXAM NOW.

ORIGINALLY WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS GOING TO BE SOME ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE INVOLVED IN THE SCORING.

WE ARE NOW HEARING THAT THEY'RE GOING TO HAVE HUMANS, PEOPLE SCORING.

THERE ARE PROS AND CONS TO BOTH, ONE OF WHICH IS THE TURNAROUND IN FINDING PEOPLE TO SCORE OPEN RESPONSES ON EVERY TEST FOR EVERY STUDENT IN THE STATE AND EVERY SUBJECT, AND GETTING THAT DATA BACK TO US.

ADDITIONALLY, THE STATE IS REVAMPING THE ENTIRE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM, SO WHAT I JUST EXPLAINED TO YOU TODAY.

THEY HAVE TOLD US WILL CHANGE, HOWEVER AS HEATHER POINTED OUT EARLIER, A LOT OF THAT WON'T BE DECIDED UNTIL AFTER THE SCORES ARE IN.

THEY'VE LET SCHOOL DISTRICTS KNOW THAT PROBABLY MAYBE MID-JUNE WILL ACTUALLY KNOW WHAT THE ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM IS FOR THIS YEAR.

NOT THAT IT MATTERS FOR OUR STUDENTS, BUT WE'RE GOING INTO A SYSTEM WHERE WE DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT WE'RE BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR AND WON'T KNOW UNTIL ALL THE TESTING IS COMPLETE AND THEN WE'LL FIND OUT WHEN WE GET OUR RESULTS.

WE'RE CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC THAT EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT WELL, BUT IT IS DEFINITELY GOING TO BE ANOTHER BIG CHANGE FOR US THIS SUMMER.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT, HEATHER.

>> TWO THINGS ON THAT.

IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT FROM THE DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE THAT WE HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT, I HAVE A MEETING WITH THE COMMISSION ON THE 12TH THAT I'D BE HAPPY TO ASK QUESTIONS.

THEN ALSO CENTRAL TEXAS SCHOOL BOARD ASSOCIATION IS HOSTING THE COMMISSIONER ON THE 14TH.

[00:50:03]

AGAIN, ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL OF OUR CENTRAL TEXAS TRUSTEES TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOUSEHOLD 3906 AND ALL THIS FUN STUFF THAT'S COMING TO OUR SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

BUT IF THERE'S ANYTHING THAT WE CAN HAVE, YOU GUYS DON'T SEE ANYTHING ON THE HORIZON THAT WE SHOULD BE AWARE OF TO ASK ABOUT OR THAT WE CAN ADVOCATE FOR OR AGAINST, PLEASE LET US KNOW.

>> THANK YOU, HEATHER.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU FOR THAT. JUST ONE BRIEF COMMENT AND IT KIND OF PIGGYBACKS A LITTLE BIT ON, I THINK WHAT ELLEN SAID AND THAT'S AND WHAT JAMES SAID.

JAMES IS ENCOURAGING US NOT TO GET SPUN UP AROUND 1S AND 2S, AND ELLEN ELEMENT IS REMINDING US THAT WHAT WE'RE REALLY TALKING ABOUT ARE KIDS.

WE'VE GOT THESE AGGREGATE PERCENTAGES THAT WE'RE FOCUSING ON THREE OR FOUR OR FIVE THAT SHOW AREAS WHERE WE CAN IMPROVE.

I DON'T WANT US TO LOSE SIGHT THAT I JUST DID A QUICK COUNT OF THE OTHER AREAS THAT YOU SHARED WITH US THIS MORNING.

OUR KIDS GREW IN 45 OF THEM AND THERE WERE SIX WHERE WHERE STUDENTS DEMONSTRATED THAT SEEMED TO INDICATE THE DATE.

THEY NEEDED A LITTLE EXTRA HELP.

I THINK THAT'S PRETTY GOOD AND LET'S NOT FORGET THAT.

WITH THAT, WE'LL MOVE TO THE OPEN.

THANK YOU BOTH FOR THIS PRESENTATION.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THE NEXT ITEM ON THE AGENDA IS THE OPEN FORM.

[BACKGROUND].

OH, NEVER MIND.

[NOISE]

>> GOOD MORNING TRUSTEES.

BEFORE WE GO TO OPEN FORUM, WE'RE GOING TO GIVE A QUICK UPDATE HERE, VERY FAMILIAR UPDATE THAT WE GIVE ABOUT THIS TIME EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

THIS IS A REVIEW OVER THE 2022 SUMMER AND WHAT FACILITY AND BOND PROJECTS THAT WERE COMPLETED.

IT'S GOING TO LOOK VERY FAMILIAR TO YOU EXCEPT FOR ONE THING.

THAT ONE THING IS TJ WASHBURN SITTING NEXT TO ME, DIRECTOR OF CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS.

HE'S BEEN INVOLVED WITH BOND PROJECTS, STUDY PROJECTS FOR SOME TIME NOW.

BUT HE'S TAKEN A LEADERSHIP ROLE WHEN IT COMES TO IMPLEMENTING THESE PROJECTS HERE RECENTLY AND THIS SUMMER WAS THAT FIRST OPPORTUNITY FOR HIM TO REALLY GET IN THERE AND LEAD THESE EFFORTS.

BUT IT COMES FROM LEADERSHIP THERE, BUT THERE'S SO MANY PEOPLE THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH ANY OF THESE BOND PROJECTS.

TJ LEADS IT, BUT IT TAKES A WHOLE GROUP OF PEOPLE TO IMPLEMENT THESE FROM BRIAN BULLOCK IN THE M&O AREA, CHRISTY SAYLORS, IN THE TECHNOLOGY, SOME OF THOSE INDIVIDUALS I WANT TO MENTION, CLAYTON WRIGHT, LORENZO LINDSAY, ANTHONY DAVIS, AND JONATHAN GOMEZ SUAREZ, AND ALSO KELSEY JOHNSON DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB ON THE TECHNOLOGY SIDE.

WE HAD A LOT OF WORK. I'M GOING TO LET TJ GO GIVE A RUN-THROUGH OF WHAT THESE PROJECTS LOOK LIKE.

BUT I WANTED TO SAY AND THANK EVERYONE THAT WAS INVOLVED.

THEY DID AN INCREDIBLE JOB THIS THIS PAST SUMMER.

>> I WANT TO ECHO WHAT JEREMY WAS SAYING.

WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT EVERYBODY PITCHING IN AND HELPING OUT SCOOP A SUMMER PROJECTS DONE, SO THANK YOU EVERYBODY FOR HELPING OUT WITH THAT.

THIS SUMMER WE KICKED OFF AND COMPLETED OVER 50 INDIVIDUAL BOND OR CAPITAL PROJECTS TOTALING $6 MILLION.

HERE'S OUR TAPE ON TABLE IS LOOK OVER THAT LIST AND SEE WHAT PROJECTS WE DID.

I'LL HIGHLIGHT A COUPLE OF THOSE.

FIRST ONE, CAMPUS REFURBISHMENT.

THIS IS THE ONE WE DID CAMP AT DISTRICT-WIDE, WERE ABLE TO DO A LOT OF PAINTING CARPET AND JUST REFRESHING OUR CAMPUS, GETTING READY FOR SCHOOL TO START.

YOU CAN SEE IN THE FIRST PICTURE THAT WAS AT EANES ELEMENTARY, WE TEAMED UP WITH THE BOOSTER CLUB, GOT HIM A CREATIVE SPACE, MAKERSPACE.

COUPLE DIFFERENT TERMS FOR IT, WAS EXCITED TO BE PART OF THAT.

WE WERE ALSO AT IAN'S, WENT TO THE BATHROOM, SO I DID A MUCH NEEDED UPDATE IN THERE.

[LAUGHTER] I DON'T KNOW IF YOU'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE, BUT EVERYONE IS VERY HAPPY THAT WE GOT THAT DONE THIS SUMMER.

WE DID SOME PAINTING IN THE COMMONS AT WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL, AND THE BAND ALSO GOT A NEW BAND TOWER, WHICH IS REALLY COOL, BIG UPGRADE FROM WHAT THEY WERE WORKING WITH BEFORE.

IT WAS A LITTLE DEER STAND BEFORE, AND NOW WE CAN HAVE [LAUGHTER] GOOD FIVE OR TEN PEOPLE UP THERE.

OVER AT FORCE TAIL, WE DID A PLAYGROUND SURFACE REPLACEMENT THAT IS ACTUALLY POOR IN PLACE, WHICH IS A VERY NICE MATERIAL TO STAND ON, FALL ON.

THIS WILL HOPEFULLY LASTS A LOT LONGER THAN OUR TURF HAD IN THE PAST AND IS ALSO WAY BETTER FOR THE MAINTENANCE SIDE OF THINGS.

IN THE PAC WE ADDED THE NEW CARPET AND AISLE LIGHTING, I THINK I WILL GET TO SEE THAT HERE A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

[00:55:02]

IT'S REALLY COOL TO SEE, ESPECIALLY ONCE THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF, YOU CAN FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN THE OCEAN AND THAT KIND OF THING.

[LAUGHTER] IT'S FUN.

WE FINISHED OUR AV REFRESH AT BRIDGEPOINT [INAUDIBLE] HILL COUNTRY IN THE HIGH SCHOOLS.

THAT COMPLETES ALL OF OUR CLASSROOM AV REPLACEMENTS.

WE'VE GOT THESE NICE 860 POINT TOUCHSCREENS WHICH ALL THE TEACHERS LOVE COMPARED TO THEIR OLD PROJECTOR SCREENS.

WE DID A LOT MORE PERIMETER FENCING DISTRICT WIDE.

WE'RE ACTUALLY FINISHING UP AT WEST RIDGE, AN EXAMPLE OF CLOSING IN THEIR CLASSROOM SPACE THAT THEY HAVE IN THE BAG.

MAKING SURE WE'RE NOT JUST GETTING RANDOM VISITORS THROUGHOUT THE DAY WHEN THEY'RE TRYING TO HOLD OUTDOOR CLASSROOM.

>> THIS IS ONE OF THOSE THAT JEFF AND I SPOKE A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO ON THIS.

HOW DO YOU GET A GOOD GLAMOUR SHOT OF OFFENSE? [LAUGHTER] KUDOS TO TJ BECAUSE THESE ARE REALLY GOOD FENCE PICTURES HERE.

IT'S HARD TO CAPTURE THAT.

BUT THIS WAS ONE OF THE LARGEST PROJECTS THAT HAPPENED OVER THE SUMMER, COMING FROM A LOT OF THOSE NEW MANDATES ON THE SAFETY SIDE.

JUST WANTED TO SAY IT'S VERY HARD TO TAKE A GOOD PICTURE OF A FENCE.

>> WE DID THE CLASSROOM WINDOW REPLACEMENT, THAT MEANS AS WELL FOR PACS HI AND K, THAT ALMOST GETS US DOWN.

WE STILL HAVE TWO MORE BUILDINGS THAT ARE IN THE MUSIC ROOM, BUT THIS IS HUGE FOR ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND JUST THE OVERALL LOOK OF THOSE SPACES THAT REALLY ENHANCES IT.

>> THESE ARE GOOD PICTURES. YES, THERE.

>> THAT WAS JUST A QUICK BRIEF GO THROUGH OF THE PROJECTS THAT I HAD FUN WITH AND TOOK A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME THAN THE OTHERS.

BUT IF Y'ALL HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS OR ANYTHING FOR THE OTHER ONES, THAT'S JIM.

>> THANK YOU GUYS FOR THE UPDATE.

YOU GUYS GOT A LOT DONE THIS SUMMER.

IS THIS ALL FROM 2019?

>> YES.

>> WHAT PERCENTAGE OF THOSE FUNDS HAVE BEEN EXPENDED?

>> WE'RE GETTING CLOSE.

IF YOU REMEMBER, 90 PERCENT IS OUR NUMBER THAT WE NEED TO GET TO FOR THE BUCK.

CURRENTLY WE'RE SITTING AT ABOUT 76/77 PERCENT, I THINK, ON ACTUAL EXPENDED.

BUT WE'RE ABOUT 80/81 PERCENT ON TOTAL ENCUMBERED.

OUT THE DOOR, THE THING WITH THESE PROJECTS IS A LOT OF THESE DON'T GET FINAL PAYS UNTIL NOW AND EVEN ALMOST INTO OCTOBER.

WE HAVE PURCHASE ORDERS THAT NEED TO BE PAID ON, BUT THOSE FINAL BILLS AREN'T PROCESSED TILL THE END OF THIS MONTH.

WE'RE HOPEFUL OUR GOAL WOULD BE TO BE AT THAT 90 PERCENT BY THE END OF THE FALL.

ONE THING WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT THERE HAVE BEEN GOOD SIGNIFICANT SAVINGS IN A NUMBER OF AREAS THROUGHOUT THE BOND, WHETHER IT BE FROM A GRANT OR JUST BE EFFECTIVE USE OF CONTRACTORS, ETC.

WE'RE STILL HOPEFUL THAT WE'LL GET THERE BY THE END OF THIS FALL.

THAT'S OUR GOAL, IS TO GET TO THAT 90 PERCENT THEN.

>> CAN YOU REMIND ME AND EVERYBODY ELSE THE 90 PERCENT THRESHOLD IS WHERE WE WOULD THEN THINK THE BUCK FOR THEIR SERVICE AND THEY ARE COMPLETE WITH THAT BOND, CORRECT?

>> CORRECT.

>> I BELIEVE LAST TIME, WHEN WE WERE PREPARING FOR THE 2019 BOND, WE HAD GOT TO THAT 90 PERCENT THRESHOLD PRIOR TO THE BOC TRANSITIONING TO THE BAC.

WE'VE ALREADY AUTHORIZED THIS TRANSITION OF THE SAME GROUP.

WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE GOING FORWARD? ARE THERE ANY CONCERNS WITH THE WAY THE POLICY IS WRITTEN FOR ONE? THEN WHAT DOES THAT LOOK LIKE FOR THEM? THE COMMITTEE ITSELF.

>> WHEN IT COMES TO THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, I THINK THE ONE CONCERN, THE DISCUSSION WE WANT TO HAVE WITH THEM, THEY'RE DOING BOTH.

A CLEAN TRANSITION WOULD BE TO HAVE THEM COMPLETE 90 PERCENT BEFORE THEY GO TO THE BOND ADVISORY COMMITTEE ROLE.

WITH THE CIRCUMSTANCES THAT WE HAVE NOW, WE WON'T BE AT THAT POINT EXACTLY BUT AS THEY DO THE BEGINNING WORK OF DEVELOPING A BOND, THEY WILL BE WRAPPING UP THE ROLE ON THE BULLET BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.

AS WE GET TO THE END OF A BOND CYCLE, THE HEAVY LIFTING IS A LITTLE LIGHTER BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF PROJECTS THAT WE'RE COMPLETING.

RIGHT NOW, WE'RE JUST TALKING ABOUT A SMALL NUMBER OF REMAINING PROJECTS WITHIN THE 2019 BOND.

WE'VE HAD A DISCUSSION WITH THEM THAT WE ARE HOPEFUL THAT ANY ACTION THAT THEY TAKE IN A BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE MEETING WOULD BE ACTUALLY REALLOCATING SAVINGS.

THAT'S A LITTLE LIGHTER OF A LIFT FOR THEM.

BUT THAT'S ONE THING THAT WE WANTED TO DISCUSS WITH THEM, THAT THERE IS GOING TO BE A TRANSITION HERE.

BUT THE 2019 BOND, WE GO BOND TO BOND CURRENTLY, THAT'S HOW WE ARE.

[01:00:05]

IT'S HARD BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO NECESSARILY HAVE A GAP THERE.

IF WE HAVE A YEAR GAP, THERE'S PROJECTS THAT ARE GOING TO BE NEEDING TO BE REPLACED.

THEY HAVE REPLACEMENT CYCLES THAT ARE GOING TO FALL WITHIN 2023.

THE 2019 BOND COVERS THE SUMMER 2023 PROJECTS AND THEN THE 2023 BOND PROJECTS OUTWARD.

>> THEN WITH THE LIST OF PROJECTS REMAINING FOR 2019, WHAT DOES THE BUDGET LOOK LIKE FOR THAT REMAINING, WHATEVER IT IS, 15 PERCENT OF THE MONEY LEFT? ARE WE GOING TO BE WELL UNDER BUDGET? I MEAN, WHAT'S YOUR PROJECTION?

>> IT'S STILL DIFFICULT AT THIS TIME JUST BECAUSE OF INFLATION, BUT WE'LL BE SEVERAL MILLION DOLLARS UNDER BUDGET BASED ON WHERE WE ARE NOW.

IT'S GOING TO BE A DIFFERENT CONVERSATION THAN WE HAD WITHIN LAST BOND CYCLE.

THAT IS A GOOD THING.

BUT WE HAVE THOSE DISCUSSIONS WITH THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.

AS THEY PHASE OUT ROLL-OFF THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, THEN THEY MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS ON HOW THOSE SAVINGS AND THOSE FUNDS SHOULD BE ALLOCATED.

>> THEY MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS BUT THEN IT'S ULTIMATELY UP TO THE ADMINISTRATION AND POTENTIALLY THE BOARD TO FINALIZE THOSE DECISIONS?

>> IT IS, YEAH. THEY WANT TO GIVE SOME GUARDRAILS AND SOME PARAMETERS THAT THEY WOULD FEEL COMFORTABLE FROM A COMMUNITY STANDPOINT AND SUPPORTING.

>> I GUESS I'M JUST THINKING FORWARD TO, ARE THE CURRENT GUIDELINES WRITTEN FOR THE BOC APPROPRIATE? DO WE NEED SOME ADJUSTMENT? NOT REALLY A DISCUSSION FOR TODAY, BUT THINKING ABOUT AS WE'RE APPROACHING A NEW BOND AND POTENTIALLY A NEW BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE.

MAYBE IT'S SOMETHING FOR THE ADMINISTRATION AND YOU SPECIFICALLY, JEREMY, TO THINK ABOUT.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND ANY CHANGES TO THAT POLICY TO THE BOARD WHEN THAT COMES BACK AROUND ALMOST A YEAR FROM NOW, SO LONG WAY AWAY BUT JUST THINKING AHEAD.

>> I THINK WE ARE HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS AND WE HAVE SOME IDEAS.

BECAUSE WITH EACH CYCLE WE LEARN A LITTLE BIT MORE AND EVEN FROM THE 2015 BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE TO THE 2019, THERE'S SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT WERE MADE TO ALLOW THEM TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF FLEXIBILITY IN FUTURE BOND DEVELOPMENT.

BUT YES, ADMINISTRATIVELY, I THINK THERE ARE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THAT WE MAY MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR.

>> THANKS SO MUCH.

>> THANK YOU. KIM AND THEN HEATHER.

>> THANKS FOR THE PRESENTATION.

I HAVE MAYBE A FOLLOW-UP IN TERMS OF THE MECHANICS OF THE BOC AND HOW IT WORKS.

YOU JUST SAID, DIFFERENT FROM THE 2015 BOC, THIS ONE IS NOT A CLEAN BREAK.

THEY'RE GOING TO WEAR TWO HATS.

WILL THEY BE HOLDING TWO SEPARATE MEETINGS? OR WILL THEY HOLD ONE MEETING AND ACT IN TWO DIFFERENT CAPABILITIES?

>> GOOD QUESTION, KIM.

HOW WE'RE GOING TO PLAN IT GOING FORWARD RIGHT NOW UNTIL WE REALIZE IF THE ADJUSTMENTS NEED TO BE MADE, OR IF THERE ARE AGENDA ITEMS OR A NEED FOR A BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE DISCUSSION MEETING, THEN WE WILL HAVE THOSE AT THE BEGINNING AND THEN WE WILL GO FROM BOC AND TRANSITION INTO BAC MEETINGS.

TRY TO DO IT IN THE SAME NIGHT.

AGAIN, THE WORK THAT WOULD NEED TO BE MADE ON BOC SHOULD BE SIMPLE ENOUGH TO RUN A VERY EFFICIENT MEETING IN ORDER TO ROLL INTO THAT BAC.

>> NO, I AGREE. I WOULD THINK THAT THEY ARE SO FAMILIAR WITH THE BOC RESPONSIBILITIES THAT THAT WOULD BE JUST PRO FORMA IN A LOT OF WAYS.

BUT WE ARE ASKING THEM TO DO A WHOLE LOT FOR THE DISTRICT, AND I APPRECIATE THAT.

I HAVE A SECOND QUESTION, WHICH IS, I'VE SEEN OVER THE SUMMER AND I JUST SAW UP HERE AGAIN THE SAFETY COMPONENT OF THE 2019 BOC PROJECTS.

TJ I THINK YOU JUST SAID THE FENCING WERE FROM THE STATE MANDATES, BUT LUCKILY, WE ALSO HAD THEM IN THE 2019 BOND, AND SO WE WERE ABLE TO FINANCE THEM QUICKLY AND EFFICIENTLY.

WAS THIS SOMETHING FROM A SCHEDULING STANDPOINT THAT WE MOVED UP TO MEET THE STATE MANDATES, OR DID THEY JUST HAPPEN TO BE FENCING PROJECTS THAT WE HAD SLATED FOR THE SUMMER?

>> I CAN ANSWER THAT.

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE PROJECTS THAT WE REFERENCED THAT WERE ALREADY IN MOTION FOR THIS SUMMER PRIOR TO ANY TYPE OF CRISIS IN UVALDE.

THIS WAS NOT TIED DIRECTLY TO IT, BUT IT BECAME EVEN MORE IMPORTANT BECAUSE OF IT.

THIS WAS IN THE 2019 BOND, ADDITIONAL PERIMETER FENCING AND WAS SLATED FOR INSTALLATION.

ON THIS PROJECT, WE HAD TO GET WELL AHEAD OF IT

[01:05:01]

BECAUSE OF SOME OF THE LEAD TIMES AND DELAYS.

>> WERE THERE THINGS THAT MAYBE WE DIDN'T SEE IN THE PICTURES THAT WERE MOVED UP AS A RESULT OF STATE MANDATES? [OVERLAPPING].

>> ONE OF THOSE IS JUST THOSE PROP ALARMS THAT WE SPOKE ABOUT, SOME OF THE ACCESS CONTROL, BUT ALSO WINDOW FILM.

THOSE ARE TWO THAT WERE MOVED UP.

SOME OF IT COULD BE COMPLETED.

WE STILL HAVE SOME REMAINDER, WHEN IT COMES TO THE PROP ALARMS JUST BECAUSE OF LEAD TIMES.

BUT THOSE WERE TWO PROJECTS THAT WE COULD IDENTIFY THAT WERE MOVED UP AHEAD OF THE SCHEDULE.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. HEATHER.

>> I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU GUYS TO YOU BOTH AND YOUR TEAM BECAUSE IT IS SUPER IMPRESSIVE THAT YOU WERE ABLE TO DO SO MUCH WITH THE 2019 BOND AND SO QUICKLY WHEN OTHER DISTRICTS ARE STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH LABOR AND GETTING ALL THE PARTS.

SOME DISTRICTS RAN OUT OF MONEY AND ARE HAVING TO GO FOR ANOTHER BOND JUST TO FINISH SCHOOLS AND FINISH PROJECTS FROM THEIR LAST BOND.

I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT THAT IS NOT US AND FOR ALL OF THE WORK THAT YOU AND YOUR TEAM AND THE BOC HAVE DONE TO, IN FACT, RECOGNIZE SAVINGS.

THAT IS HUGE, HUGE, HUGE.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

I JUST WANT TO SAY I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THE POTENTIAL OF WHAT WE CAN DO WITH THOSE SAVINGS AND WITH WHAT THE BOC TRANSITIONING TO THE BAC, WHAT THEY DREAM UP FOR FUTURE CONVERSATIONS WITH THE NEXT BOND.

BECAUSE I THINK WE HAVE SOME GREAT CAPACITY HERE,AND I APPRECIATE YOUR WORK, SO THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, HEATHER. OH, LAURA, SORRY.

>> THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR ALL THE WORK YOU DID, PARTICULARLY OVER THE SUMMER.

THAT'S NOT A FUN TIME TO BE WORKING AND I APPRECIATE YOU ALL GETTING IT DONE SO THAT WHEN SCHOOL STARTS BACK WE'RE ABLE TO GET OUR KIDS ON CAMPUS AND OUR STAFF BACK ON CAMPUS.

COULD YOU TALK BRIEFLY ABOUT THE REALLOCATION OF SAVINGS, AND ARE THERE ANY GUARDRAILS REGARDING WHERE WE CAN SPEND THESE SAVINGS?

>> ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT THE TRANSITION, WHEN WE MAKE THAT TRANSITION AT THE 90 PERCENT MARK?

>> CORRECT. BECAUSE MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT WE CAN'T JUST SPEND IT ON ANYTHING.

IT HAS TO FALL WITHIN ITEMS THAT WERE PART OF THAT APPROVED BOND.

>> YEAH. ONE EXAMPLE I CAN GIVE IS WHAT WE DID IN THE 2015 BOND.

THE BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE VOTED TO ALLOCATE FUNDS FOR FACILITIES, SAFETY, AND TECHNOLOGY, WHICH WERE ALREADY WITHIN THE BOND, BUT THEY WANTED TO MAKE THOSE THREE A PRIORITY.

YOU DO HAVE THE GUARDRAILS BETWEEN OUR TABLES, AND THAT'S WHY IT'S SO IMPORTANT WHEN YOU SET UP THE STRUCTURE THAT YOU GIVE FLEXIBILITY WITHIN THOSE TABLES THAT WE HAVE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE M&O BOND.

YOU HAVE ALMOST EVERY CATEGORY COVERED WITHIN THERE, SO IT GIVES YOU SOME GOOD FLEXIBILITY WITH ANY TYPE OF SAVINGS THAT ARE REALIZED THROUGH THAT BOND CYCLE.

WE WANT TO STAY WITHIN THE CONFINES THAT WERE ALREADY DEFINED WITHIN THE 2019 BOND.

>>THANK YOU FOR THAT. I LISTENED TO YOU ALL AND KIM YOU WERE AT THE BACK, AS YOU ALL WERE PUTTING THAT TOGETHER, THERE WAS A LOT OF DISCUSSION ABOUT THE SPECIFIC WORDING OF THAT THAT WOULD PROVIDE THAT FLEXIBILITY AND I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

I THINK THAT WILL ALLOW US TO UTILIZE OUR MONEY TO THE BEST THAT WE CAN. THANKS.

>> THANK YOU. ANYBODY ELSE? TJ, JEREMY, THANK YOU BOTH FOR YOUR TIME THIS MORNING.

>> APPRECIATE YOU ALL.

>> NOW, WE WILL MOVE TO THE OPEN FORUM PORTION OF OUR MEETING.

WE HAD ONE PERSON SIGN UP, THAT PERSON IS NOT HERE, SO WE WILL JUMP STRAIGHT TO THE DISCUSSION ITEM,

[5. DISCUSSION]

OUR ONLY DISCUSSION ITEM AND THAT'S THE BOARD PRIORITY UPDATE AND AUDIO.

>> WHILE THEY ARE COMING TO THE TABLE, IF YOU DON'T MIND, I'LL GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT.

EVERY YEAR THE BOARD HAS ITS STRATEGIC SUMMIT IN JANUARY.

THE LAST FEW YEARS, WE HAVE PRECEDED THAT WITH A PRE-SUMMIT WHERE WE COMPACT ALL OF THE PRESENTATIONS, THE UPDATES, THE OVERVIEWS OF THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN DONE ON YOUR RESPECTIVE PRIORITIES INTO ONE MORNING TO TRY TO PREPARE YOU FOR THE STRATEGIC SUMMIT.

THAT'S A LOT OF INFORMATION TO DIGEST IN ONE SITTING.

THIS YEAR WE WANTED TO TAKE A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT APPROACH WHERE WE WANTED TO SEQUENCE AND STAGE THESE PRESENTATIONS OVER THE COURSE OF SEVERAL WEEKS LEADING UP TO THE JANUARY SUMMIT, GIVE YOU AN OPPORTUNITY TO REALLY HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE IN-DEPTH INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORK THAT'S BEING DONE AROUND YOUR PRIORITIES AND ALSO PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO HAVE

[01:10:01]

SOME DISCUSSION WITH THOSE WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THOSE PRIORITIES.

WE WANT TO BEGIN TODAY WITH STAFF AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, AND THAT'S WHY LAURIE AND CLAUDIA ARE HERE, SO I'LL TURN IT OVER TO THEM.

>> GOOD MORNING. THANK YOU.

>> GOOD MORNING.

>> THANK YOU FOR LETTING CLAUDIA AND I START THIS SERIES FOR OUR CONVERSATIONS OF THE PRE-SUMMIT, SO WE APPRECIATE THAT.

WE'LL START WITH HUMAN RESOURCES.

WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EASY CARE, AND THEN WE'LL MOVE INTO CLAUDIA'S ROLE.

WE'RE HAVING THESE CONVERSATIONS, JUST CONTINUING OUR CONVERSATIONS AROUND EXCELLENCE FOR OUR STAFF.

THAT CAFE SERIES THAT CLAUDIA AND DR. ARNETT HAVE PLANNED TO HAVE.

WE ALSO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE INCLUDE OUR STAFF IN THIS ENGAGEMENT, SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THESE CONVERSATIONS.

YOU PROBABLY KNOW WE'VE HIRED ABOUT 140 PEOPLE THIS YEAR, SO THAT IS PROFESSIONALS OF ALL LEVELS, WE'RE STILL HIRING FEW MORE TEACHERS THAT ARE LEFT.

WE DO HAVE A BUSINESS TEACHER, SO I'M GOING TO PUT IT IN A LITTLE BIT OF A PLUG WHILE WE'RE HERE AND A COUPLE OF SPECIAL ED, BUT WE FEEL REALLY GOOD ABOUT WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

MANY DISTRICTS AROUND US ARE STILL SEEKING A LOT OF TEACHERS.

THEY'VE HAD ADVERTISEMENTS OUT THERE, OR SEEKING INDIVIDUALS WITH JUST A BACHELOR'S DEGREE.

THEY ARE REALLY HURTING IN MANY AREAS AND WE FEEL VERY FORTUNATE.

I DO REALLY WANT TO THANK THE INDIVIDUALS THAT WERE ALL IN THE RAIN THAT LEFT US BEFORE AND MR. RAMSEY, WHO'S STILL HERE.

I REALLY THINK THAT WE STARTED STAFFING VERY EARLY THIS YEAR.

WE REALLY GOT TO JUMP ON THIS.

WE KNEW THIS WAS GOING TO BE DIFFICULT AND WE REALLY HAVE PLANS FOR THIS FALL AND WE'LL TALK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THAT.

BUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT STAFFING AND HOW DIFFICULT IT IS, I WANT TO BRING FORWARD THE DISTRICT OF INNOVATION BECAUSE I KNOW THERE MIGHT BE SOME CONCERNS ABOUT THE NUMBER THAT WE'VE SEEN.

I THINK THE MOST THAT WE'VE EVER HAD IS PROBABLY ABOUT FOUR, DISRUPTIVE INNOVATIONS AND THIS YEAR WE'RE LOOKING AT 11.

I WANT TO JUST REALLY TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE FACT THAT THIS LOOKS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, LIKE WHEN MOLLY'S TALKING ABOUT HER NUMBERS, THEY VARY A LITTLE BIT FROM LAST YEAR BECAUSE TEA HAS ASKED DISTRICTS NOT TO SEND NORMAL CERTIFICATION PROCESSES TO THEM THIS YEAR.

IF YOU HAVE A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION PROCESS, THEY WANT YOU TO GO THROUGH THAT PROCESS TO CERTIFY THAT TEACHER.

I MIGHT BE SPECULATING, BUT I IMAGINE THAT IS BECAUSE WE ARE SEEING SO MANY DISTRICTS HIRING UNCERTIFIED TEACHERS AND THEY KNOW THEY WOULD BE INUNDATED WITH THOSE REQUESTS FOR CERTIFICATIONS.

THEY HAVE ASKED THE DISTRICTS, GO THROUGH YOUR DIY PROCESS, AND SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE TODAY.

COUPLE OF THESE PEOPLE WHO MIGHT BE IN THIS NUMBER OF 11 ARE CERTIFIED TEACHERS.

YOU WOULD THINK, WHY ARE THEY ON A DISTRICT OF INNOVATION? WELL, THEY REALLY ARE THERE BECAUSE THEY MAY NOT BE CERTIFIED IN THEIR AREA AND THEY'RE WORKING ON THAT PROCESS OR THEY MAY BE A MATH TEACHER, BUT THEY'RE NOT CERTIFIED TO TEACH IT AT A HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.

THEY'VE BEEN TEACHING IT AT MIDDLE-SCHOOL FOR ALL OF THIS TIME.

THERE ARE A COUPLE OF REALLY DIFFERENT REASONS, BUT I WANTED TO CLARIFY THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT DOES LOOK CONCERNING, BUT IT REALLY IS, IT HAS A REALLY GOOD REASON BEHIND IT.

WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT REALLY LOOKING THIS YEAR AND CONTINUING OUR HIRING PRACTICES, WE REALLY HAVEN'T HAVING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT THE FALL, WHAT DOES THAT GOING TO LOOK LIKE FOR US? WE KNOW THAT SOME OF THESE TEACHERS COMING OUT OF PROGRAMS OR UNIVERSITIES ARE GOING TO BE SOUGHT AFTER BY MANY DISTRICTS, AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE IF WE HAVE STUDENT TEACHERS, IF WE'RE GOING TO JOB FAIRS, THAT WE'RE SEEKING OUT THESE CANDIDATES AND WE ARE MAKING SURE THAT WE BRING THEM IN.

BECAUSE WE MAY NOT BE THE HIGHEST IN THE PAY AS WE SAW WITH BUS DRIVERS BUT WE DO HAVE A CULTURE.

WHEN WE TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT RECRUITING, RETENTION, THOSE RELATIONSHIPS, THAT'S IMPORTANT.

THAT IS ONE THING THAT WE WANT TO BRING THEM INTO EANES ISD AND SHOW THEM WHAT WE DO HAVE TO PROVIDE, LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT THAN OTHER DISTRICTS.

WE HEAR THAT EVERY TIME WE HIRE A TEACHER BACK THAT LEFT US FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.

WE STILL HAVE THOSE RELATIONSHIPS AND HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS WITH TEACHERS WHO HAVE LEFT FOR A DIFFERENT REASON AND SAID, IF I COULD COME BACK, I WOULD.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE REALLY FOCUS ON THIS IN THE FALL AND THE SPRING SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN RECRUIT TEACHERS AND MAKE SURE THAT WE DEFINITELY TAKE CARE OF THE ONES THAT WE HAVE.

BECAUSE I'VE HEARD FROM ALL THE PRINCIPLES, THIS HAS BEEN A GREAT START TO THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE WANT TO CONTINUE THAT.

WELL, RECRUITING DOES HAVE CONVERSATIONS AROUND COMPENSATION AND WE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THAT.

EVEN WITH TRANSPORTATION, WE'RE ALWAYS LOOKING AT THOSE.

WE'RE GOING BE LOOKING AT MORE COMPENSATION ABOUT NOVEMBER, LOOKING AT WHAT THE DISTRICTS ARE PLANNING ON DOING,

[01:15:02]

EARLIER START THAN WE NORMALLY HAVE.

WE NORMALLY HAVE THOSE CONVERSATIONS IN APRIL.

WE REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT PEOPLE ARE DOING, BUT IT'S VERY INTERESTING TO SEE WHAT DISTRICTS DO AFTER THE FACT.

WE ALL SET OUR BUDGETS, WE ALL SET OUR SALARIES AND WE START TO MOVE ON, AND THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW, SOMEONE HAS RAISED AN HOURLY RATE SOMEWHERE ELSE AND WE WEREN'T AWARE OF IT AND IT SLIPPED IN AUGUST.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE STAY ON TOP OF THAT AND WE SEE WHAT IS GOING ON AROUND US AT ALL TIMES SO WE CAN PREPARE FOR THE SPRING.

WITH RETENTION IN THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WE WANT TO REALLY TALK ABOUT AND FOCUS ON OUR EMPLOYEES.

WE WANT TO TALK ABOUT CONVERSATIONS OF MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS, FINANCIAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS.

THOSE THINGS GO HAND IN HAND MANY TIMES.

I THINK THAT WHEN MOLLY WAS HERE, SHE WAS HERE WITH HEIDI, THEY RECENTLY TALKED ABOUT THE MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS, AND WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT'S NOT ONLY FOR OUR STUDENTS BUT FOR OUR EMPLOYEES.

WE TALK ABOUT AUSTIN FAMILY COUNSELING AND THE PEER SUPPORT GROUPS THAT WE'LL BE HAVING.

THOSE SAFE SCHOOLS VIDEOS THAT WE WATCHED, NOT ONLY FOR OUR STUDENTS BUT FOR OURSELVES TO HELP TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER.

OUR EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM, WHICH IS CONFIDENTIAL COUNSELING.

IT HAS FINANCIAL COUNSELING, IT'LL HAS LEGAL SUPPORT.

IT ALLOWS FOR AN EMPLOYEE TO HAVE A WILL.

JUST THINGS THAT WE DO EVERY DAY AND THAT CAN TAKE A LOAD OFF OF THEM AND HELP THEM AND SUPPORT THEM ALONG THE WAY.

THE CONVERSATIONS AROUND US ARE GOING TO BE THAT DISTRICTS ARE PLANNING ON CONTINUING THEIR COVID PAY FOR THIS NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.

WE HAVE SEEN THAT REALLY POP UP IN THE LAST MONTH.

MANY DISTRICTS ARE TAKING IT TO THEIR BOARD IN SEPTEMBER.

THAT IS OUR PLAN BY THE END OF THIS MONTH THAT WE WILL BE BRINGING THAT RESOLUTION BACK TO THE BOARD FOR FIVE DAYS OF COVID-PAID LEAVE.

IF YOU REMEMBER IN THE PAST WE WERE PAYING 10 DAYS PREVIOUSLY.

THIS WILL BE HALF OF THAT TIME JUST BASED ON THE NEW GUIDELINES FROM CDC.

BUT WE WILL ASK FOR THAT, IT'LL BE ONE TIME PER EMPLOYEE AND WE WILL DATE THAT BACK TO JULY 1ST A RETROACTIVE DATE.

WE TAKE THAT TYPICALLY FROM JULY 1ST TO JUNE 30TH DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.

EMPLOYEE PERKS IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT CLAUDIA I HAVE TO GIVE HER THE KUDOS FOR.

IT'S THE PLACE ON THE WEBSITE THAT SHE AND PAM SET UP THAT REALLY IS A PLACE TO HOUSE OUR PERKS FOR OUR EMPLOYEES.

WE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO COME IN AND SAY, "HEY, I COULD GIVE YOU 10 PERCENT OFF TACO DAILY." OR WHATEVER IT MAY BE.

THERE'S LOTS OF GYM MEMBERSHIPS OR GYM OPPORTUNITIES.

THERE'S SOME WELLNESS AND DISCOUNTS AND SPECIAL SERVICES.

WE HOUSE THAT THERE.

WE ARE TALKING ABOUT THAT, WE WANT TO TOUCH BASE ON OTHER PARTS THAT WE WERE HAVING CONVERSATIONS ABOUT.

WHICH IS WE'RE CURRENTLY HAVING CONVERSATIONS ON AFFORDABLE HOUSING.

THOSE CONVERSATIONS HAVE BEEN WITH A SMALL GROUP OF US, JEREMY, CLAUDIA, ALLISON, MOLLY, WE'VE ALL BEEN IN THOSE CONVERSATIONS.

IT'S INTERESTING TO US THAT HOUSING WORKS HAS SAID THAT HOUSING COSTS HAVE GONE UP 138 PERCENT IN THE AUSTIN AREA.

WHILE MOST SALARIES HAVE ONLY GONE UP 38 PERCENT.

THAT IS VERY CONCERNING.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THIS, THIS IS ACTUALLY NUMBERS THAT ARE FROM THE TRAVIS COUNTY AREA OF PRECINCT 3.

THEY'RE NOT ONLY WESTLAKE, SO WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THEM AND YOU'RE THINKING, "I KNOW THAT AVERAGE RATE IS 1,600 IS SEEMS VERY LOW FOR WESTLAKE.

THAT IS JUST AS TRAVIS COUNTY AREA." KEEP THAT IN MIND, $1,600 BASIC AVERAGE RENT FOR A TEACHER.

THAT SHOWS THAT IN THIS AREAS, SO MANY INDIVIDUALS ARE HOMEOWNERS, BUT OUR TEACHERS MAY NOT HAVE THAT OPPORTUNITY. WHAT CAN WE DO? HOW CAN WE LOOK AT AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND CONTINUE IN THAT CONVERSATION? WE ARE GOING TO BE COMING OUT WITH AN EMPLOYEE SURVEY.

IT'S JUST AN INTEREST SURVEY.

HEY, IF WE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY, WHAT WOULD IT LOOK LIKE FOR YOU? WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED? WE ARE GOING TO BE GETTING THAT SURVEY OUT IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS.

WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT HAVING THESE CONVERSATIONS.

I THINK JEREMY IS PLANNING ON GOING TO LEGISLATIVE UPDATE NEXT WEEK ON THAT.

WE'RE JUST TRYING TO TAKE IN INFORMATION.

MANY DISTRICTS AROUND US ARE TAKING IN THE SAME INFORMATION.

FAYETTEVILLE HAS HAD THESE CONVERSATIONS, WE KNOW THAT AUSTIN HAS HAD THESE CONVERSATIONS.

I THINK MIDLAND HAS ACTUALLY WORKING ON THIS PROCESS.

THIS IS A BIG DEAL TO BE ABLE TO HAVE NEW TEACHERS COME INTO OUR DISTRICTS AND LIVE HERE AND NOT HAVE TO MAKE THAT COMMUTE IS REALLY SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE SUCH A LUXURY FOR THEM.

WE WANT TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT EANES CARE.

WE FORMALLY KNOW THIS AS OUR CDC AND OUR EASY CARE PROGRAM.

I JUST WANTED TO GIVE A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ABOUT OUR PROGRAM.

[01:20:04]

THE BCE AND THE VALLEY VIEW EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS ARE FOUR-STAR RISING CERTIFIED.

THAT MEANS THEY HAD THE HIGHEST ACHIEVEMENT RIGHT NOW.

WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM.

THEY DO A LOT OF REALLY GREAT THINGS FOR OUR YOUNG PRESCHOOL STUDENTS.

I THINK WE'VE TALKED A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THEM ONE MILLION DOLLAR GRANT THAT WE RECEIVED, BUT WE ALSO RECEIVED A $30,000 GRANT JUST TO PURCHASE A CURRICULUM CALLED FROGSTREET.

THAT IS A TEA-APPROVED EARLY CHILDHOOD CURRICULUM.

IT HAS CONSCIOUS DISCIPLINE AND LESSONS FOR OUR STAFF TO USE.

THEY'RE VERY EXCITED, THEY'D BEEN WORKING ON THAT.

THEY RECEIVE THAT CURRICULUM.

THEY WERE BOXES AND BOXES FULL AND THEY'VE BEEN ALL WORKING ON GETTING READY AND MOVING FORWARD.

AS I MENTIONED, WE DID RECEIVE THE ONE BILLION DOLLAR GRANT FROM THE STATE FOR OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM.

THAT WAS A GRANT THAT SHANNON EASTMAN WORKED ON.

SHE ALSO WORKED ON OUR FROGSTREET CURRICULUM GRANT, AND SO WE'RE VERY EXCITED.

THE ONE MILLION DOLLAR GRANT DOES COVER SOME PAYROLL COST.

IT DOES COVER OTHER TRAINING FOR OUR STAFF BECAUSE WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR CDC STAFF ALSO HAS THE SAME OPPORTUNITIES AND OUR EASY CARE STAFF.

SHE'S OVERSEEING BOTH PROGRAMS NOW, SO THAT LOOKS A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT.

I SHOULD'VE GIVEN A LITTLE BIT OF INFORMATION ON THAT.

JEREMY AND I DID WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE THAT WE COULD SEPARATE WHAT WE HAD OUR COMMUNITY ED PROGRAM, WHICH IS NOW INVOLVED WITH OUR FACILITIES AND SO THEY'VE BEEN WORKING REALLY HAND IN HAND AND THAT'S BEEN GREAT.

OUR EASY CARE PROGRAM AND OUR CDC PROGRAM IS OVERSEEN BY SHANNON EASTMAN, AND SO SHE'S DOING BOTH, WHICH SHE'S BEEN VERY CREATIVE IN THAT PROGRAM AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT WHAT SHE HAS TO OFFER.

PART OF THAT CREATIVITY, SHE'S BEEN WORKING ON INCREASING HOURS OF OUR AFTER-SCHOOL PROVIDERS BY HAVING THEM WORK IN SOME OF THOSE EARLY CHILDHOOD CLASSES.

WE ALL KNOW THAT SUBSTITUTES ARE VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IN EVERY LEVEL, AND IT IS DEFINITELY DIFFICULT TO FIND AT THE THE CDC.

THEIR HOURS ARE A LOT LONGER DURING THE DAY, SO THEIR WORK HOURS ARE A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT AND SO THIS HELPS BRING IN SUBS THE MOST NEEDED TIME OF THE DAY.

WHEN WE HAVE CHILDREN WHO ARE NAPPING OR HAVING LUNCH, IT GIVES OUR CDC EMPLOYEES TIME TO HAVE A PLC, SO THAT THEY CAN WORK TOGETHER AND ALSO WORK ON THEIR CURRICULUM THROUGH FROGSTREET, SO THAT'S A VERY EXCITING TIME FOR THEM TOO.

AS WE TALK ABOUT RETAINING AND RECRUITING STAFF, WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KNOW THAT OUR EASY CARE PROGRAM IS A BIG PART OF THAT.

DAYCARE FOR EMPLOYEES IS DIFFICULT TO FIND IN AUSTIN, AND WE'VE HAD EMPLOYEES ON A WAITING LIST AND WE WOULD LOVE TO OPEN MORE CLASSES.

STAFFING IS JUST AS DIFFICULT FOR OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT CLASSES TOO.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN STAFF THOSE PROGRAMS AND HAVE TEACHERS HERE SO THAT WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE CAN BRING OTHER TEACHERS IN AS A RECRUITMENT TOOL.

WE ALL KNOW THAT RETENTION RATES WILL DEFINITELY STAY UP IF WE CAN OFFER DAYCARE FOR THOSE WHO NEEDED, ONSITE DAYCARE IS VERY IMPORTANT.

VERY FEW EMPLOYERS OVERALL OFFER DAYCARE AS AN OPTION NATIONWIDE.

IT'S ONLY ABOUT FOUR PERCENT, SO WE ARE VERY UNIQUE IN MANY WAYS.

WE WANT TO BUILD THAT SCHOOL COMMUNITY WITH OUR TEACHERS, WITH OUR STUDENTS.

I GOT THE BEST PICTURES, BETTER THAN FENCING. I'M SORRY.

[LAUGHTER] OUR YOUNGEST CHAPS, WHAT CAN YOU SAY? THOSE CDC PICTURES WHEN YOU GET THEM IN THERE IT'S DIFFICULT TO PICK UP A BAD ONE.

WITH OUR CURRENT OFFERINGS AT EANES CARE, WE DO HAVE THAT EASY CARE PROGRAM THAT I TALKED ABOUT.

WE HAVE ABOUT 154 STUDENTS THAT ARE IN OUR CDC PROGRAM AND ABOUT A LITTLE OVER 260 I THINK THAT ARE IN OUR EASY CARE PROGRAM.

THOSE ARE HUGE NUMBERS FOR US AND WE'RE VERY EXCITED TO GROW THOSE NUMBERS.

WE WOULD LIKE TO BEGIN CONVERSATIONS TO EXPAND THAT PRE-K PROGRAM.

WE DO BELIEVE THAT IF WE OPEN MORE PRE-K CLASSES RIGHT NOW WE HAVE ABOUT FIVE, THE SPLIT BETWEEN THE TWO CAMPUSES, WE DO BELIEVE THAT WE COULD ATTRACT MORE COMMUNITY BECAUSE THAT PRE-K IS REALLY WHEN PEOPLE WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO COME INTO THE SCHOOL DISTRICT.

LEARNING THE DAY-TO-DAY, LEARNING HOW TO GO TO SCHOOL, LEARNING HOW TO BE GOOD FRIENDS, THAT'S WHAT WE WANT TO HAVE IN AN OFFER FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

>> A LITTLE SLIDE THERE.

>> IF THERE ANY QUESTIONS, I'D BE HAPPY TO HELP.

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. LET'S SEE. ELLEN.

>> THANK YOU. EXCITING NEWS ON A LOT OF FRONTS.

[01:25:01]

IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, WHEN WE BEGAN THE BUDGET DISCUSSIONS LAST SPRING, THERE WAS A NOTE ABOUT OUR EMPLOYEE ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND HOW WELL UTILIZED IT WAS, BUT IT WAS SOMEHOW LIMITED BY THE RESOURCES AVAILABLE IN THAT POT.

AM I REMEMBERING THAT CORRECTLY?

>> CORRECT. THE ACTUAL COUNSELING SERVICES ARE LIMITED TO THREE COUNSELING SERVICES, BUT THEN THERE'S AN OPPORTUNITY FOR REFERRAL OUT TO THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE SO THEN THAT PARTICULAR INDIVIDUAL WOULD BE ASSISTED IN FINDING ANOTHER COUNSELING SERVICE THAT WOULD MAYBE BE UNDER THEIR HEALTH INSURANCE PLAN.

>> MY QUESTION IS, DO YOU FEEL LIKE THIS YEAR THE EAP PROGRAM IS RESOURCED WELL ENOUGH TO MEET THE NEEDS OF OUR STAFF?

>> I THINK WITH THE PEER SUPPORT GROUPS THAT WE HAVE WORKING WITH AUSTIN FAMILY COUNSELING, WE DON'T RECEIVE NECESSARILY NUMBERS ON THAT EAP, BUT I BELIEVE THAT WE'VE SEEN SOME INTEREST IN IT.

I REALLY HOPE THAT THAT'S WHAT IT WOULD SERVE OUR STAFF.

MAYBE WHAT WE CAN DO IS PLAN A SURVEY.

I HATE TO SURVEY EVERYBODY TO DEATH, BUT PLAN SOMETHING LATER THAT TALKS ABOUT THOSE BENEFITS.

>> I'M JUST SEEING EAP PROGRAMS BE SUCH A POWERFUL TOOL.

I'M SO GLAD WE HAVE ONE AND THAT IT IS WELL UTILIZED SO WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT IT IS WELL-RESOURCED.

I JUST WANT TO GIVE A SHOUT-OUT TO THE CDC AND OUR PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OF THE HIGH QUALITY THERE.

THERE'S NO BETTER WAY TO START THE DAY THAN A DROP-OFF AT THE CDC.

>> ABSOLUTELY.

>> THEY DO AN EXCEPTIONAL PROGRAM.

I ALSO WANT TO SAY HOW THRILLED I HAVE BEEN AT SEEING HOW OPEN AND EFFECTIVELY THEY WORK WITH OUTSIDE RESOURCES LIKE THE CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES.

WE HAVE SEVERAL STUDENTS IN CDC WHO ARE IN FOSTER CARE.

THE CDC STAFF, SHANNON HAS MADE THAT A REAL SEAMLESS PROCESS WHICH I THINK IS EXTRAORDINARY FOR THE FAMILIES WHO ARE DOING FOSTERING AND IS A REALLY GOOD ASSET FOR OUR COMMUNITY SO REALLY APPRECIATE THAT ABOVE AND BEYOND.

>> THANK YOU. THANK YOU FOR NOTICING BECAUSE I KNOW SHE WORKS VERY HARD.

EVEN EXTRA SUPPORT FOR SOME OF OUR CDC STUDENTS, WE HAVE SOMETIMES SPEECH THERAPIST COMING IN AND WORKING WITH OUR KIDS AT THE CDC.

THAT PROGRAM REALLY DOES LOOK LIKE A SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT AND SO THEY TRY VERY HARD TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY'RE VERY INCLUSIVE WITH EVERYTHING THEY CAN DO.

>> THANK YOU. LET'S SEE, KIM, AND THEN HEATHER.

>> THANK YOU ALSO FOR THE PRESENTATION.

I ALSO ECHO FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE, THE CDC IS A FABULOUS PROGRAM.

ARE THERE ANYONE YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT RECRUITING IN RETENTION IN CDC? ARE THERE DIFFERENCES IN THE WAY THAT YOU'RE RECRUITING YOUR OTHER STAFF AND TEACHERS? I KNOW IT'S A UNIQUE POPULATION OF CAREGIVERS AND TEACHERS SO ARE THERE WAYS THAT YOU'RE LOOKING TO RECRUIT IN THAT POPULATION AS OPPOSED TO OTHER POPULATIONS?

>> NO, I THINK INDEED IS OUR FRIEND EVERYWHERE AND SO WE DO A LOT OF SOCIAL MEDIA ALSO.

WORD OF MOUTH FROM OUR TEACHERS, WHERE WE ARE IN A VERY DIFFERENT AND UNIQUE ENVIRONMENT, BRINGING IN THEIR FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN LONG-TERM TEACHERS.

THAT'S VERY CRUCIAL TO OUR PROGRAM.

I THINK WE DO QUITE A FEW THINGS.

WE RECENTLY RAN JUST A FACEBOOK POST ON HIRING SOME TEACHERS FOR OUR CDC AND THE BEST PART WAS, LIKE YOU MENTIONED, WE GET A LOT OF REALLY LIKE MY CHILD WAS THERE.

IT'S THE BEST PLACE EVER YOU SHOULD GO WORK THERE.

YOU CAN'T GET ANY BETTER ON FACEBOOK.

>> RIGHT. GOOD. WELL THANK YOU FOR THAT BECAUSE I THINK JUST LIKE YOU'VE SAID, AND PEOPLE KNOW, IT'S A GREAT PROGRAM FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

AS A COMMUNITY MEMBER, WHEN THERE'S CAPACITY, IT'S LOVELY TO HAVE THAT FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS IN ADDITION TO STAFF.

YOU POINTED OUT EARLIER IN THE DISTRICT OF INNOVATION CERTIFICATIONS THAT THE NUMBERS ARE UP.

HAVE YOU SEEN MAYBE IN THE PAST, IF NUMBERS HAVE GONE UP, HAS THAT CREATED ANY PROBLEMS IN THE SCHOOLS? THAT NUMBERS HAVE TO GO UP, THAT THERE HAS TO BE A CERTIFICATION OR IS IT SEAMLESS AND THIS IS A NUMBER OF 11 VERSUS FOUR LAST YEAR?

>> I THINK IT'S JUST A NUMBER BECAUSE I REALLY BELIEVE OUR CAMPUSES SUPPORT THEIR FIRST-YEAR TEACHERS, WHETHER THAT MEANS IT'S THEIR FIRST YEAR TEACHING OR FOURTH YEAR TEACHING JUST IN A DIFFERENT AREA.

THERE'S A LOT OF SUPPORT OUT THERE.

ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, THEIR EPS, THEIR TEAMS.

[01:30:04]

I THINK THAT IT'S JUST A DIFFERENT NUMBER.

WHEN THEY'RE LOOKING AT THESE INDIVIDUALS BRINGING THEM IN, AND THEY MAY BE UNCERTIFIED, IT'S NOT NECESSARILY THAT THEY'RE UNCERTIFIED AND THEY HAVE NEVER, THEY DON'T KNOW THE CONTENT.

THESE ARE INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE COMING IN.

MR. RAMSEY AND I THIS MORNING, WE WERE HAVING A TEXTING CONVERSATION ABOUT A CANDIDATE THAT CAME IN.

YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT CANDIDATES WHO ARE VERY KNOWLEDGEABLE IN THEIR AREA.

WHEN THEY'RE COMING IN TO MAYBE TEACH MATH, THEY'VE HAD THIS FINANCE, ACCOUNTING, A VERY DIFFERENT BACKGROUND.

AS LONG AS THEY HAVE SUPPORT AND APPLYING THAT TO THEIR STUDENTS, WE'VE BEEN SEEING SOME REALLY UNIQUE SITUATIONS AND HAVE BEEN VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

>> GOOD. THANK YOU BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I ASSUMED AND I THOUGHT THAT IT WOULD BE SEAMLESS REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THEY HAD TO GET THE CERTIFICATION.

MY LAST QUESTION IS JUST GOING TO HOW WE HELP PROMOTE THE WEBSITE ON THE COMMUNITY PROMOTION OF DISCOUNTS.

OR IS THERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT WANT TO PARTICIPATE, THAT WANT TO OFFER DISCOUNTS, DO THEY COME TO YOU, CLAUDIA? I HAVEN'T LOOKED ON THE WEBSITE.

IS THERE A PLACE WHERE COMMUNITY MEMBERS CAN RAISE THEIR HAND?

>> THEY DO. WE HAVE A COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PAGE, BUT THEN IT ALSO REFERS TO THE STAFF PERKS.

IT'S A GROWING PROGRAM.

A LOT OF IT IS WORD OF MOUTH, BUT WE DO PLAN ON GETTING A LITTLE MORE AGGRESSIVE AND PUSHING IT OUT THERE AND ENCOURAGING BUSINESSES TO PARTICIPATE.

BUT IT'S BEEN PRETTY GOOD.

WE'VE HAD SOME REALLY COOL, UNIQUE PERKS THAT POP UP AND I KNOW OUR EMPLOYEES REALLY APPRECIATE IT.

>> GOOD.

>> ESPECIALLY THAT DSW DISCOUNT THAT WE GET [LAUGHTER].

>> I KNOW.

GREAT. WELL, THAT'S WHAT I ASSUMED.

I ASSUMED THAT THE COMMUNITY WANTS TO SUPPORT ALL OF OUR STAFF AND SO FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS THAT ARE LOOKING FOR A WAY, THEY COME TO THE WEBSITE.

>> YES.

>> GOOD. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, HEATHER. THEN LAURA.

>> I WANTED TO GO WAY BACK TO THE SALARY PIECE.

DO WE THINK THAT WE WILL SEE ANY IMPACT IN DISTRICTS AROUND US THAT MIGHT BE HELPFUL TO US BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN FUNDING WITH HB3 AND SR FUNDS THAT THEY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD SOME OF THEIR STAFF IN THE FUTURE? THAT MAY BE GOOD FOR US?

>> THAT MAY BE GOOD FOR US.

WE DID NOT SEE A LOT OF LOSS DUE TO I'M GOING GO TO ANOTHER DISTRICT.

WE SEE LOSS JUST FOR OTHER REASONS, BUT EVERY ONCE WHILE WE DO HAVE SOMEONE WHO MOVES CLOSER TO HOME, THEY'RE GETTING PAID A LITTLE BIT MORE.

LIKE WE SAID, WE KNOW THAT IT'S VERY DIFFERENT HERE.

WE HAVE A REALLY GREAT CULTURE AND I DO BELIEVE THAT WE MAY SEE SOME RETURN.

>> GREAT. THEN ON THE FACT THAT WE OFFER CHILDCARE TO OUR STAFF IS HUGE.

THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I STOPPED TEACHING.

THAT'S JUST AMAZING AND I'M SO PROUD THAT WE DO THAT AND WE OFFER THAT FOR OUR STAFF.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT THE CONVERSATION TO EXPAND OUR PRE-K PROGRAMS. IF WE CAN PULL THAT OFF, THAT WOULD BE FANTASTIC.

I THINK THAT'S AMAZING FOR OUR COMMUNITY, FOR MORE STAFF AND I KNOW THAT IN OTHER DISTRICTS, YOU CAN NOT ONLY GET STATE FUNDING FOR THAT, SOMETIMES FEDERAL FUNDING.

IT'S FREE FOR SOME PEOPLE, NOT A LOT, SOME.

THEN THAT COULD ALSO BE A REVENUE SOURCE FOR US, WHICH IS ANOTHER WAY JUST TO START GROWING THEIR SHOPS EARLY, SCHOOL SPIRIT.

I'M REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT CONVERSATION SO THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THAT TO US.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. LAURA.

>> I WANT TO ADDRESS THE EASYCARE.

I USED TO WORK FOR A TEXAS RISING STARS CERTIFIED PRESCHOOL PROGRAM AND GETTING THAT FOUR-STAR CERTIFICATION IS A REALLY BIG DEAL.

IT IS ABSOLUTELY IN LINE WITH THE REST OF OUR DISTRICT AND IT'S A LOT OF WORK SO KUDOS TO THE TEAM FOR GETTING THAT CERTIFICATION.

HEATHER, YOU BROUGHT UP THE FUNDING FOR THE EASYCARE PROGRAM AND THE EXPANSION OF THE PRE-K PROGRAM.

I'D BE CURIOUS TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THAT.

WE DON'T HAVE TO DO IT TODAY, BUT AT A FUTURE WHEN WE START LOOKING AT THAT BECAUSE I KNOW THAT THERE ARE DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES, FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES AS WELL AS THE REVENUE.

IT COULD BE REVENUE RESOURCE FOR US.

THEN I WILL SAY, I'VE BEEN HEARING OF COLLABORATION AND I THINK IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN SHANNON WHO STARTED THIS, IS COLLABORATION WITH EASYCARE AND BOOSTER CLUBS AND EEF.

THAT PROGRAM THAT IS REALLY BEING BROUGHT IN TO THE FOLD OF FUTURE SHAFTS.

[01:35:02]

THE BOOSTER CLUBS ARE PREPARED.

IF THEY HAVEN'T BEEN PREVIOUSLY SUPPORTING THE EASYCARE STAFF, THEY WILL BE.

IN RETURN, THE EASYCARE FAMILIES WILL BE SUPPORTING THE DISTRICT CLUB AND EEF.

IT'S BEEN REALLY NICE SEEING THAT COLLABORATION BETWEEN ALL THE GROUPS.

GREAT, POSITIVE THINGS. THANK YOU ALL.

>> PASS IT ON. THANK YOU.

>> GREAT. ELLEN.

>> YOU CAN'T RESIST THIS HISTORY NOTE.

CARROLL REESE, WHO IS BEHIND SO MANY OTHER THINGS IN OUR DISTRICT, SHE ACTUALLY WAS ONE OF THE TWO ORIGINATORS OF THE FIRST CHILDCARE PROGRAM IN THE EANES DISTRICT, WHEN HER OLDEST SON WAS AN INFANT.

SHE AND DIAN BROWN BROUGHT THE FIRST TWO INFANTS TO A PILOT PROGRAM AND IT WORKED.

>> HOW OLD ARE THEY NOW? [LAUGHTER]

>> THEY ARE EARLY 30S.

>> WOW. THANK YOU, LAURIE.

>>THANK YOU.

>> CLAUDIA, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING FOR US?

>> YES, I DO AS A MATTER OF FACT.

HERE IS THE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT.

JUST WANTED TO START OFF GOING THROUGH, IS A BUSY SUMMER WHILE WE WERE DOING ALL THE BOND PROJECTS AND STAFF WAS GETTING TRAINED, WE WERE DOING SOME STUFF OVER ON THE COMMUNICATION SIDE AS WELL.

WANTED TO GO THROUGH THESE REAL QUICKLY, THE SAFETY UPDATES.

WE GOT A TON OF MEDIA ATTENTION, AS YOU CAN IMAGINE FOR THAT.

I THINK I'VE PROBABLY GOT REPORTERS REACHING OUT TO ME TWO, THREE TIMES A DAY ALMOST FOR WHAT ARE YOU DOING, AND WHAT DO YOU HAVE PLANNED AND CAN WE COME OUT? THAT WAS A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF MEDIA THIS SUMMER.

BUT THEN ALSO JUST YOUR NORMAL BACK TO SCHOOL MESSAGING, INCORPORATING, THREADING THOSE SAFETY UPDATES IN THERE AS WELL, BUT ALSO JUST NORMAL BACK TO SCHOOL STUFF.

ANYTHING NEW THAT WE WERE GOING TO SEE THE SCHOOL YEAR CONVOCATION THAT WAS LOVELY.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME DOING THAT.

AGAIN, JUST THE MEDIA REQUESTS, HERE'S JUST AN EXAMPLE OF SOME OF THEM.

AS YOU CAN SEE, A LOT OF THEM ARE FOCUSED ON SAFETY.

HOWEVER, WE DID GET A FEW HITS ON THE MAKER SPACE FOR EANES ELEMENTARY BUDGET ALWAYS GETS IN THEIR BOND.

THEN WE ALSO GOT SOME PUBLICITY ON THE INCUBATOR TEAM WINNING, THAT WAS REALLY COOL.

AS LAURIE MENTIONED, THE CAFE SERIES WAS SOMETHING IN THE BRAINCHILD OF JEFF ARNETT.

THIS IS A WAY OF NOT ONLY RE-INTRODUCING HIM INTO THE COMMUNITY, MOST PEOPLE KNEW WHO HE WAS, BUT IT WAS JUST RE-INTRODUCING HIM, REINTRODUCING THE DISTRICT.

THIS IS A NEW REGIME.

THIS IS A NEW TIME FOR US IN LOTS OF WAYS, NOT JUST ON THE FOOTBALL FIELD.

SOME OF THESE WAYS THAT WE'RE DOING THIS ARE THROUGH TOPICAL TOWN HALLS.

I'LL GO THROUGH EACH OF THESE LISTENING DINNERS, STAFF AND PARENT CONVERSATIONS AND THEN ALSO SOCIAL MEDIA VIGNETTES.

JUST SOMETHING TO TALK THROUGH AND I'LL GO THROUGH THESE.

THE TOPICAL TOWN HALLS, ACTUALLY ONE IS COMING UP VERY SOON, SEPTEMBER 15TH BUT THAT'S BASICALLY A WAY TO GET THE BOARD MEETING DISCUSSIONS.

SOME OF THOSE HEAVY DISCUSSIONS WE HAVE HERE OR MAYBE THEY'RE NOT SO HEAVY, BUT JUST WHERE IT'S NOT NECESSARILY A SIT AND LISTEN TO YOU ALL DISCUSS, IT'S MORE OF A DIALOGUE.

WE DID HEAR THAT PEOPLE WANTED TO HAVE MORE OF A DISCUSSION ABOUT CERTAIN ITEMS. THIS IS OUR WAY TO BRING THOSE ITEMS OUT OF THE BOARD MEETING, OUT OF THAT FORMAL STRUCTURE AND MAKE IT A LITTLE MORE CONVERSATIONAL.

WE DO HAVE ONE SCHEDULED FOR NEXT WEEK AND THEN WE HAVE OTHER ONES, THAT'LL BE SCHEDULED.

I'LL GO THROUGH IN A LITTLE BIT.

THEN I'M GOING TO LET JEFF TALK ABOUT THE LISTENING DINNERS BECAUSE THAT'S HIS BABY.

>> WELL, THE TOPICAL TOWN HALLS ARE REALLY AN INVITATION FOR ANYONE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WANTS TO COME AND HAVE A CONVERSATION AND LISTEN TO MORE INFORMATION, BUT ALSO HAVE A DISCUSSION AROUND SOME OF THESE ISSUE TOPICS.

THE LISTENING DINNERS, ARE ON A SMALLER SCALE.

WE TRIED THIS LAST SPRING, WE PILOTED A COUPLE OF THE DINNERS WHERE WE WOULD PURPOSELY SEEK OUT PEOPLE THAT WE KNOW REPRESENT DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND EXPERIENCES IN THE COMMUNITY AND INVITE THEM TO A VERY SMALL INTIMATE GATHERING WHERE OVER DINNER, THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE A CONVERSATION,

[01:40:02]

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, THEY LISTEN TO EACH OTHER'S STORIES.

WHY THEY'RE IN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT AND TO DEVELOP THOSE RELATIONSHIPS OF UNDERSTANDING.

WE'RE INTENTIONALLY LOOKING AT THOSE, WILL PROBABLY DO THE FIRST ONE IN OCTOBER.

THOSE AGAIN, WILL BE MODERATED BY SOMEONE AND IT'S NOT AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO PRESENT, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO LISTEN.

YOU'LL BE HEARING MORE ABOUT THOSE.

WE'RE ALREADY GETTING INTEREST EXPRESSED FROM PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY WHO WANT TO COME TO DINNER, AND THEY'RE HEARING ABOUT THIS AND SO THEY'RE INTERESTED IN INVITATION, WE'RE ALL EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

>> THE NEXT OF THE STAFF AND PARENT CONVERSATIONS, AND THOSE ARE FORMERLY KNOWN AS STATE OF THE DISTRICTS.

WE'RE JUST REBRANDING IT, BUT WE'RE ALSO MAKING SURE THAT PEOPLE KNOW THAT THEY'VE CHANGED.

THOSE ARE CHANGING AS WELL.

YOU'RE GOING TO HEAR THIS ALL THROUGHOUT THIS PRESENTATION.

MORE CONVERSATIONAL, MORE DIALOGUE, MORE INTERACTION, MORE ENGAGEMENT.

THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT THOSE ARE.

BEFORE THEY WOULD BE VERY PRESENTATION HEAVY, VERY SLIDE HEAVY AND WHERE WE GO TO CAMPUSES, WHETHER FOR STAFF OR FOR PARENTS.

BUT WE'RE GOING TO MAKE THOSE A LITTLE MORE CASUAL THIS YEAR.

CERTAINLY WE WILL HAVE ALL OF ACCESS TO SHOWING SLIDES IF PEOPLE WANT TO BRING UP A PARTICULAR TOPIC, WE WILL HAVE SOME SLIDES ON HAND, BUT THESE ARE REALLY INTENDED TO BE CAMPUS CENTRIC TO HAVE THOSE DIALOGUE, THE DIALOGUE OF WHAT'S GOING ON AT THAT CAMPUS, BUT ALSO AT DISTRICT LEVEL AS WELL, BUT MORE CONVERSATIONAL.

THOSE WILL KICK OFF IN OCTOBER.

THEN LASTLY, WE HAVE THE SOCIAL MEDIA VIGNETTES.

I MAYBE GETTING TOO FAR AHEAD IN THIS, BUT MAYBE YOU'VE SEEN A LITTLE BIT HERE AND THERE OF EITHER JEFF POSTING SOME FUN THINGS OR US POSTING SOME VIDEOS AND JUST A DIFFERENT WAY OF COMMUNICATION.

WE HAVE A MILLION WAYS TO COMMUNICATE TO FAMILIES, AND THIS IS ANOTHER ONE.

THIS IS JUST DIVERSIFYING THE WAY WE COMMUNICATE.

WITHIN THE CAFE SERIES WITH THE COMMUNITY EVENTS, YOU CAN SEE JEFF THERE AT THE CHAMBER EVENT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO.

ALWAYS LOVED TO GO TO THOSE EVENTS, AND THEN ALSO, I KNOW HE ENGAGES WITH ROTARY AS WELL.

BUT JUST THOSE COMMUNITY EVENTS WHERE WE CAN GET OUT THERE INTO THE COMMUNITY MORE.

LIKE I SAID, WE DO HAVE THE CAMPUS CONVERSATIONS, THE TOWN HALLS COMING UP, AND I HAVE A SLIDE FOR THAT MAYBE. THERE WE GO.

THERE'S THAT FIRST TOWN HALL, SEPTEMBER 15TH, 6 O'CLOCK.

IT WILL BE IN THE HILL COUNTRY MIDDLE SCHOOL LIBRARY.

THE TOPIC WILL BE SAFETY AND SECURITY.

THAT'S JUST THE FIRST ONE THAT WE DECIDED TO START OFF ON.

ITS TOP OF MIND, AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE KNOW THAT OUR COMMUNITY HAS A LOT OF INTEREST IN.

THEN I ALSO PUT UP THERE THE TENTATIVE, UPCOMING TOWN HALLS NOVEMBER, FEBRUARY, AND APRIL, AND WE'LL ANNOUNCE THOSE TOPICS AS THEY GET CLOSER.

THEN HERE ARE THE PARENT AND COMMUNITY CAMPUS CONVERSATIONS.

THE FIRST ONE IS STARTING IN OCTOBER, AND THESE ARE CONNECTED REALLY WITH THE BOOSTER CLUBS.

BUT OF COURSE, ANYONE IS WELCOME AND WE'LL START PUSHING OUT THOSE AS WELL.

WHAT I DON'T HAVE UP HERE IS THE SCHEDULE FOR THE STAFF.

THOSE USUALLY START IN THE SPRING WHERE WE GO TO THE CAMPUSES AND MEET DIRECTLY WITH THE STAFF, SO WE'LL KICK THOSE OFF AT THE SPRING.

ONE THING I DO WANT TO MENTION HERE ALSO IS WE ARE CONTINUING OUR TEACHER ADVISORY GROUP.

THAT'S THE GROUP THAT MEETS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT.

IT CONSISTS OF TWO YEARS WORTH OF OUR EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR.

ONCE YOU'VE SERVED YOUR SECOND YEAR, YOU ROLL OFF BUT IT LEAST ESTABLISHES SOME CONSISTENCY TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF CONSISTENCY THERE.

THOSE EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR REPRESENT THEIR CAMPUS, AND THEY ARE THE VOICE AS WELL.

IF SOMEONE HAS A CONCERN OR HAS A QUESTION ABOUT SOMETHING AND THEY DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE COMING TO JEFF OR ME OR LAURIE OR WHOMEVER, THEN THEY CAN GO TO THEIR CAMPUS PERSON WHO SITS ON THAT TEACHER ADVISORY GROUP.

IT'S JUST ANOTHER WAY TO GET THAT DIALOGUE FROM STAFF AS WELL.

>> AGAIN, VIDEO VIGNETTES AND SOCIAL MEDIA GETTING OUR DISTRICT OUT THERE AND JUST DIFFERENT WAYS YOU SAW HOPEFULLY THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL VIDEO THAT WE PUT OUT, WE'RE OUT THERE, EANES ELEMENTARY.

[01:45:01]

IT WAS LOT OF FUN, LITTLE CRAZY, CHAOTIC FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

BUT WE HAD FUN THERE.

THEN JEREMY TRIMBLE HAD HIS ACTING DEBUT, WORLDWIDE DEBUT OF FOUR.

WE HAD A SAFETY AND SECURITY VIDEO BEFORE SCHOOL STARTED.

THAT REALLY GOT INTO LIKE WHAT YOU WERE ASKING KIM, WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE ELEVATED OR WE PUSHED TO HAPPEN SOONER IN TERMS OF BOND PROJECTS AND SAFETY PROJECTS.

THANK YOU JEREMY FOR PLAYING ALONG.

THEN THIS ONE ALWAYS MAKES ME SMILE.

THIS WAS THE VIDEO WE DID FOR JEFF'S FIRST DAY AS SUPERINTENDENT AND WE HAD A COUPLE OF FIRST GRADERS TO GIVE HIM ADVICE ON WHAT HE NEEDED TO DO OR WHAT HE SHOULD DO OR WHERE.

MAYBE SOME EXERCISE ADVICE, SOME OTHER THINGS.

THAT'S RIGHT. HE DID NOT WEAR HIS PAJAMAS.

BUT AGAIN, THESE ARE JUST WAYS TO SHOW TO HIGHLIGHT THE DISTRICT IN OTHER WAYS, THEN ALSO SOCIAL MEDIA.

JEFF HAS BEEN REALLY FOCUSED ON HIGHLIGHTING THE PEOPLE OF THE DISTRICT.

HE'S REALLY BEEN SHOWCASING PEOPLE THAT YOU WOULDN'T NECESSARILY KNOW.

EVERY WINDOWS, CARROLL REESE, BUT THEY DON'T NECESSARILY KNOW RAUL.

IT'S PUTTING A FACE OUT THERE.

IT'S HIGHLIGHTING OUR STAFF.

IT'S BEEN REALLY NICE TO SEE IN AND HE'S BEEN DOING THAT REALLY WELL.

WE'VE ALSO HAVE THE DISTRICT SOCIAL MEDIA AND ONE OF THE THINGS WE ARE REALLY PUSHING STARTED LAST YEAR, ROLLING BACK INTO THIS YEAR ARE JUST THOSE LITTLE TIDBITS ON HISTORY AND GETTING THOSE OUT THERE AND JUST A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT TOPICS.

THANK YOU ELLEN FOR HELPING WITH THAT.

CAN'T DO THAT WITHOUT YOU.

BUT I'M HIGHLIGHTING THE PEOPLE IN THE PROGRAMS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA IS JUST ANOTHER TOOL, ANOTHER TOUCH POINT THAT WE HAVE FOR PEOPLE.

SPEAKING OF THE 150TH CELEBRATION [LAUGHTER] WE'RE GOING.

WE WERE PLANNING DIFFERENT CAMPUS EVENTS, DISTRICT-WIDE CONTESTS.

MOLLY AND THE CURRICULUM TEAM ARE WORKING ON WRITING COMPONENT A CONTEST, AND THEN ALSO, I DON'T WANT TO SAY ART, BUT MAYBE IT IS ART OR LOGO OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT CONTEST THAT THEY'RE WORKING ON.

THAT'LL BE FUN. THEN TALKING ABOUT N'S PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE IS OUR THEME FOR THAT.

WE CONTINUE WITH THE HISTORICAL TIDBITS THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA.

THE STATESMAN FOR NOW IS DOING THOSE AS WELL, HIGHLIGHTING THOSE WE'RE HOPING TO CONTINUE THAT.

THEN WE ALSO ARE CONTINUING OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH THE WEST BANK LIBRARY AND GETTING THOSE TOPICAL MEETINGS OUT THERE WHERE THEY HIGHLIGHT SPECIFIC THINGS WITHIN EANES AS WELL.

ONE THING I DO WANT TO MENTION ABOUT THE 150TH IS SOME OF THOSE EVENTS.

IF YOU'LL REMEMBER, FOR THE 50TH CELEBRATION FOR WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL, WE HAD A LUNCHEON FOR FORMER STAFF TO COME BACK TO WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL, AND IT WAS AMAZING.

IT WAS SO MUCH FUN. THAT WAS ON HOMECOMING DAY, ON FRIDAY OF HOMECOMING AND STEVE RAMSEY HAS COMMITTED TO DOING THAT AGAIN.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED TO BRING BACK FORMER STAFF TO THAT AS WELL, SO WE'LL DO THAT.

THEN I KNOW EF AND THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION ARE WORKING ON SEVERAL EVENTS TOO WITH ALUMNI AND GETTING ALUMNI CONNECTED BACK INTO THE DISTRICT.

THEN UPCOMING.

WE KNOW THAT THE BOARD IS GOING TO WORK ON LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AND SO THAT WILL BE ANOTHER COMMUNICATION TOOL THAT WILL PUT OUT THERE JUST MESSAGING TO BE ABLE TO RAISE AWARENESS, ENGAGEMENT, CALL TO ACTION, MAYBE.

THAT'LL BE A COMPONENT THAT WILL WORK ON THIS YEAR.

THEN WITH THE POTENTIAL 2023 BOND, THAT ALWAYS BRINGS A TON OF COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT AND MEETINGS AND ALL CONVERSATIONS.

I WANT TO MAKE SURE WE MENTIONED THAT THAT WILL BE UPCOMING OR COULD BE UPCOMING.

THEN THESE PICTURES ARE JUST FROM THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

WE HAD A LOT OF FUN GETTING OUT THERE AND MEETING NEW PEOPLE AND SEEING OLD FRIENDS.

IT WAS A LOT OF FUN.

[01:50:01]

I WANT TO POINT OUT THAT PICTURE ON THE LEFT WITH THE BARTON CREEK STAFF.

THAT WAS A FUN LITTLE SOCIAL MEDIA EVENT WE DID WITH ATX, GOOD NEWS.

THEY WERE HIGHLIGHTING SOME OF OUR STAFF AT BARTON CREEK BECAUSE WE HAVE THE THREE ON THE LEFT.

THOSE LADIES ARE RELATED, MOM AND TWO DAUGHTERS, AND THEN THE TWO IN THE MIDDLE, MOTHER AND DAUGHTER.

THE TWO ON THE RIGHT, MOTHER AND DAUGHTER AND NOT PICTURED, WE HAVE KATE RICHTER, DAUGHTER WHO TOOK OVER THE LIBRARIAN WITH FROM HER MOM WHO SUBSTITUTES IN THERE.

WE HAVE JUST THIS WHOLE FAMILY AFFAIR THING GOING ON AT BARTON CREEK AND IT WAS SO FUN AND JUST IT WAS COOL TO HIGHLIGHT THAT SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE MENTIONED THAT.

THAT MIGHT BE IT. ANY QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH. I'D SAY ELEMENT.

I SEE YOU. I THOUGHT YOU WERE LEANING.

>> I WAS AND I WAS GOING TO ASK IF WE'VE GOTTEN CLARIFICATION FROM THE PICU.

I GOT AN INDICATION LAST WEEK THAT AFTER 43 YEARS THE PICU AND WOULD CEASE TO BE PUBLISHED AS OF NEXT WEEK AND THAT KIND OF PUTS A DENT IN OUR ABILITY TO SHARE OUR HISTORICAL PICTURES IN THE PICU, WHICH HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE JANUARY.

IT'S BEEN A LOT OF FUN FOR A LOT OF FOLKS IN THE COMMUNITY, PARTICULARLY THOSE WHO WERE PART OF THAT HISTORY. DO WE HAVE?

>> I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM YET NOW.

I'LL FOLLOW UP TODAY.

>> PRETTY SAD.

>> ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANYTHING? CLAUDIA, THE WORK THAT YOU'RE DOING IT'S AN INCREDIBLE AMOUNT OF WORK.

IF YOU WERE ALREADY DOING A TON AND YOU'VE PICKED UP THIS ENTIRE OUTREACH SERIES.

I WANT TO JUST THANK YOU FOR THAT.

I THINK IT'S HAVING A REAL IMPACT ON COMMUNITY CONVERSATIONS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE THESE DAYS.

PERSONALLY, I BELIEVE THAT IT'S JUST THOSE CONVERSATIONS.

THERE ARE PATHWAY FORWARD.

THANK YOU AND THANK YOU, JEFF, FOR SPONSORING THAT IDEA ONCE UPON A TIME.

>> THANK YOU. IT'S VERY EXCITING AND I MUST MENTION, WE HAVE A SMALL COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE THAT CAME OUT THE ENVISION EANES COMMITTEE AND THEY'VE BEEN WONDERFUL.

THEY'VE BEEN SO GREAT TO WORK WITH.

PROVIDING IDEAS ON HOW TO INCREASE THAT ENGAGEMENT.

MARY JO, WITH THE LIBRARY IS HELPING US AS WELL.

SHE'S REALLY BEEN PUSHING OUR MESSAGING OUT IN HER NEWSLETTERS AND IT'S BEEN A GOOD PARTNERSHIP.

>> ANYBODY ELSE HAVE ANYTHING? NO. THANK YOU ALL.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WITH THAT, LET ME REMIND EVERYBODY THAT WE'VE GOT A COUPLE OF MEETINGS COMING UP.

[6. UPCOMING MEETINGS]

WE HAVE ONE ON SEPTEMBER THE 20TH, THAT'S A REGULAR MEETING AND THEN ON OCTOBER 4TH, WE'VE GOT ANOTHER STUDY SESSION.
