>> THE TIME IS NOW 5:30 AND I CALL THE APRIL 9TH,

[1. CALL TO ORDER]

2024 MEETING OF THE EANES ISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO ORDER.

MADAM SECRETARY, DO WE HAVE A QUORUM?

>> WE DO.

>> THANK YOU. WE WILL NOW MOVE INTO CLOSED SESSION PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE,

[3. CLOSED SESSION]

SECTIONS 551.071 AND 551.074.

WE WILL RECONVENE IN OPEN SESSION AT APPROXIMATELY 7:00 PM.

THANK YOU FOR COMING. SEE YOU IN A BIT.

THE TIME IS NOW SEVEN 7:09 PM,

[4. RECONVENE INTO OPEN SESSION (Approximately 7:00 PM)]

AND WE WILL RECONVENE IN OPEN SESSION.

I JUST WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO'S HERE TONIGHT.

THANK YOU FOR COMING OUT. WE APPRECIATE YOU BEING HERE AND TAKING AN INTEREST IN OUR SCHOOLS.

I THINK WE'RE GOING TO HEAR FROM SOME PEOPLE HERE IN A FEW MINUTES.

WE'RE EXCITED FOR THAT.

THE BOARD IS HERE TO HAVE A BOARD MEETING TONIGHT AND THE BOARD MEETING WILL GO ON FOR A WHILE.

IF YOU'RE PART OF THE AGENDA, HAPPENS AT THE BEGINNING AND YOU WANT TO GO HOME, IT'S PERFECTLY UNDERSTANDABLE.

YOU DON'T OFFEND US, WE UNDERSTAND, BUT WE JUST ASK THAT YOU PLEASE EXIT QUIETLY WHEN IT'S YOUR TIME, WHEN YOU CHOOSE TO GO.

LIKE I SAID, THE PURPOSE OF TONIGHT'S MEETING IS FOR THE BOARD TO DELIBERATE AND VOTE ON MATTERS LISTED ON ITS AGENDA.

THE DISTRICT IS COMMITTED TO TREATING EVERYONE HERE WITH RESPECT AND WE HOPE THAT YOU WILL RESPECT THE BOARD WHILE YOU'RE HERE.

PLEASE REFRAIN FROM ANY OUTBURST AND THAT KIND OF STUFF EXCEPT THAT IF YOU WANT TO APPLAUD WHEN SOMEONE IS MAKING A SPECIAL PRESENTATION, THAT'S PERFECTLY OKAY.

THERE IS AN OPPORTUNITY ON ALL OF OUR OPEN AGENDAS FOR THE PUBLIC TO SPEAK TO US.

NO SPEAKERS HAVE SIGNED UP TONIGHT, SO WE WILL NOT HAVE THAT PART OF OUR MEETING. I THINK THAT'S IT.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR JOINING US AND FOR YOUR INTEREST IN OUR SCHOOLS AND OUR COMMUNITY, AND WE WILL NOW BEGIN OUR AGENDA. DR. ARNETT.

[5. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT]

>> ALL RIGHT, MR. BRADLEY. THANK YOU.

WELCOME. IT'S GREAT TO SEE SO MANY STUDENTS AND STAFF AND PARENTS WITH US TONIGHT, AND WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE SOME OF THEM IN JUST A MOMENT.

WANTED TO REFLECT A LITTLE BIT ON SOME THINGS THAT WE HAVE ENJOYED IN THE DISTRICT IN THE PAST FEW DAYS AND THEN ALSO LOOK FORWARD TO WHAT'S COMING UP.

YESTERDAY WAS A VERY UNIQUE EVENT, NOT ONLY FOR OUR COMMUNITY, BUT WORLDWIDE, ESPECIALLY IN THE UNITED STATES AND THOSE THAT WERE IN THE PATH OF THE TOTAL ECLIPSE.

IT WAS FUN TO BE ON MANY CAMPUSES AND TO SEE WHAT A FAMILY AND COMMUNITY EVENT THIS BECAME, SO MANY STUDENTS AND PARENTS ENJOYING THIS WITH OUR STAFF, AND SO IT WAS REALLY A MOMENTOUS OCCASION AND GLAD THAT WE COULD CELEBRATE IT TOGETHER.

I ALSO WANTED TO MENTION THAT TODAY MRS. MCMATH AND I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT FOREST TRAIL ELEMENTARY, WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT THAT, AND VISIT WITH A NUMBER OF STUDENTS.

WE SAW SOME OF THEM WHO ARE IN THE AUDIENCE WITH US TONIGHT, AND HAD A CHANCE TO INTERACT WITH THEM AND TEACHERS IN THEIR CLASSROOM.

THAT'S ALWAYS A LOT OF FUN, BUT WE APPRECIATE THE TRUSTEES MAKING THOSE TOURS AND THOSE VISITS WITH ME.

I ALSO WANTED TO RECOGNIZE THIS PAST WEEKEND THAT THE VARSITY WINTERGUARD COMPETED AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS AT TEXAS A&M, AND THE TEAM BROUGHT BACK ITS THIRD STRAIGHT STATE TITLE.

CONGRATULATIONS, I'M VERY PROUD OF THE LADIES.

THEY WILL END THEIR SEASON LATER THIS WEEK, COMPETING NATIONALLY AT THE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN DAYTON, OHIO.

THE ELITE VISUAL ENSEMBLE HAS HAD A RECORD BREAKING SEASON.

THE JV WINTERGUARD TOOK HOME THIRD IN THEIR CLASS AT STATE.

THE CADET GUARD, CONSISTING OF STUDENTS FROM HILL COUNTRY AND WESTRIDGE, THAT'S A NEW PROGRAM THAT WE ADDED, TOOK HOME SECOND IN THEIR FIRST APPEARANCE AT STATE.

IT'S THE HIGHEST THAT ALL OF THESE GROUPS HAVE EVER PLACED, AND WE'RE VERY PROUD OF THEM.

SPEAKING OF PRIDE, OUR WOMEN'S SOCCER TEAM IS GOING TO COMPETE IN THE STATE SEMIFINAL GAME THIS FRIDAY MORNING IN GEORGETOWN, KICK-OFFS AT 9:30 AM.

THEY CONTINUE TO DO EXTREMELY WELL.

SPEAKING OF UPCOMING EVENTS, THAT'S WHY WE HAVE SO MANY PEOPLE IN THE AUDIENCE WITH US TONIGHT, SATURDAY, APRIL THE 20TH IS OUR BEST BUDDIES WALK.

THIS IS AN EVENT THAT WE LOOK FORWARD TO EVERY YEAR, AND WITH THAT, I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO MR. ZEMO.

I THINK HE'S GOING TO TELL US A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT OUR GUESTS.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HAVING US THIS EVENING.

I WILL BE THE OPENING BAND THAT NOBODY REALLY KNOWS ABOUT.

BUT BEFORE WE BRING SOME VERY SPECIAL GUESTS UP, I JUST WANT TO INTRODUCE OUR STRUCTURE FOR OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAM AS IT RELATES TO INCLUSIVE PROGRAMS. SARAH [INAUDIBLE] IS HERE AND SHE'S IN THE BACK.

SHE HAS BEEN WORKING TIRELESSLY OVER THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS SUPPORTING OUR BEST BUDDIES AND INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING.

THEN WE JUST KEPT GROWING AND GROWING AND WE NEEDED MORE SUPPORT FOR INCLUSIVE PROGRAMMING, AND ALSO FOR OUR TEACHERS THAT WORK WITH THE STUDENTS WITH THE MOST SPECIAL, UNIQUE NEEDS.

[00:05:03]

NICKI SMITH IS OUR NEW INSTRUCTIONAL COACH THIS YEAR, AND SHE WAS A FORMER LIFE SKILLS TEACHER IN OUR DISTRICT FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS.

WHAT I THINK IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE IS THAT WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO EXPAND OUR STRUCTURE, OUR PROCESSES, OUR SUPPORTS FOR THESE PROGRAMS WITH SARAH AND NICKI'S LEADERSHIP.

ALSO WITH NICKI'S LEADERSHIP, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO FORECAST GOING INTO NEXT YEAR WITH OVER 90% RETENTION FOR LIFE SKILLS POSITIONS.

IF YOU FEEL SUPPORTED AND YOU FEEL YOU'RE MAKING A DIFFERENCE, THAT REALLY MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU WANT TO COME BACK TO WORK.

I'M GOING TO STEP ASIDE HERE, BUT WE HAVE SOME FABULOUS STUDENTS THAT'LL COME UP AND SPEAK A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT BEST BUDDIES.

>> HI, EVERYONE. MY NAME IS HALLEY MCDONNELL AND I'M THE PRESIDENT OF WESTLAKE'S BEST BUDDIES CHAPTER.

WE'RE SO EXCITED TO BE WITH ALL TONIGHT.

FIRST, THIS IS MY BEST FRIEND BROOKLYN.

VERY EXCITED TO TALK ALSO.

>> WE'RE EXCITED TO SHARE WITH WHY BEST BUDDIES IS SO IMPORTANT TO ALL OF US.

EANES ISD STARTED OUR FIRST CHAPTER AT WESTLAKE IN 2019, AND SINCE THEN OUR PROGRAM HAS GROWN TREMENDOUSLY TO EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

WE ARE ONE OF THE ONLY DISTRICTS IN THE UNITED STATES WITH THAT CHAPTER ON EVERY SINGLE CAMPUS, WHICH IS AMAZING.

ADDITIONALLY, WE'VE HELPED CREATE THE CENTRAL TEXAS BEST BUDDIES PROGRAM, WHICH PROVIDES JOBS, HOUSING, AND FRIENDSHIP OPPORTUNITIES FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH INTELLECTUAL DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITY.

WE'RE JUST SO PROUD OF OUR CHAPTER AND SO EXITED TO SHARE WITH ALL OF Y'ALL MORE ABOUT IT.

LIKE DR. ARNETT, TOUCHDOWN WE WANT TO INVITE EVERYONE TO OUR FRIENDSHIP WALK ON APRIL 20TH AT THE CHAPARRAL STADIUM.

FOR NOW, BROOKLYN IS GOING TO SHARE WHY SHE LOVES BEST BUDDIES. WANT TO GO IN THE MICROPHONE?

>> HI, MY NAME IS BROOKLYN.

I'M IN FOURTH GRADE.

I MAKE FRIENDSHIP WITH MY FRIENDS AND OUR LIBRARY.

>> HI, GUYS.

MY NAME IS LIVY FITZGERALD.

I'M THE VICE PRESIDENT OF BEST BUDDIES.

THE ONE REASON WHY I LOVE BEST BUDDIES IS IT'S BECAUSE IT'S GIVEN ME FRIENDS ACROSS ALL GRADES IN ALL DIFFERENT CLASSES, AND IT'S GIVEN ME MY BEST FRIEND WILL RIGHT HERE.

>> YEAH.

>> WE LOVE TO DANCE, WE LOVE TO HANG OUT.

IT'S LIKE I FOUND A DUPLICATE OF MYSELF IN WILL HONESTLY.

WILL, WHY DO YOU LOVE BEST BUDDIES?

>> MY NAME IS WILL. [INAUDIBLE] MATT IS MY FRIEND. [INAUDIBLE] MATT MADE ME HAPPY.

I HAVE LOVE.

I HAVE HOPE AND BABY.

BABY KNOWS ABOUT ME.

SOMETIMES ABOUT BUCKLEY.

BUCKLEY MAKE ME HAPPY.

>> BUCKLEY IS BROOKLYN.

>> SOMETIMES SOMEONE MADE ME HAPPY.

IT'S JAKE.

EVERY TIME JAKE MAKE ME FUNNY.

BABY LET ME MEET OUR FRIENDS.

>> THANKS Y'ALL.

>> HI, MY NAME IS ALEXANDER MAZER AND I'M IN FOURTH GRADE AT FOREST TRAIL ELEMENTARY.

I LOVE BEST BUDDIES BECAUSE EVERYBODY IS INCLUDED, AND EVERYONE IS EQUAL FOR HOW THEY ARE, AND NO ONE'S LEFT OUT.

MY FAVORITE PART OF BEST BUDDIES THIS YEAR WAS WHEN WE ALL GATHERED TOGETHER IN THE GYM WITH ALL DIFFERENT SCHOOLS AND PLAYED GAMES AS A FAMILY.

[00:10:28]

>> MY NAME IS SHAIK. HELLO.

>> MY NAME IS SHAIK FANO [INAUDIBLE]

>> IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE?

>> THAT'S IT.

>> HI. MY NAME IS AMELIA SMITH AND I AM IN FIFTH GRADE AT FOREST TRAIL ELEMENTARY.

I LOVE BEST BUDDIES BECAUSE IT IS A GROUP OF STUDENTS THAT INCLUDE OTHERS AND OUR LEADERS IN THE COMMUNITY.

MY FAVORITE PART WAS MAKING FRIENDSHIP PLACES TO SHOW THAT WE ARE ALL FRIENDS AND ARE IN THIS TOGETHER.

>> HI, MY NAME IS GABBY MAZER, AND I'M IN FIFTH GRADE AT FOREST HILL ELEMENTARY.

I LOVE BEST BUDDIES BECAUSE IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO CONNECT WITH KIDS FROM DIFFERENT GRADES.

BEST BUDDIES IS ALSO GREAT BECAUSE IT TEACHES ME LIFE SKILLS LIKE KINDNESS AND LEADERSHIP THAT I CAN USE LATER IN LIFE.

MY FAVORITE PART OF BEST BUDDIES THIS YEAR WAS MAKING BRACELETS WITH THE KINDERGARTENERS.

NOT JUST BECAUSE OF THE BRACELETS, BUT FOR ME, HAVING FUN AND HELPING YOUNGER STUDENTS IS A GREAT EXPERIENCE.

>> I THINK WE'RE GOING TO BE PASSING OUT SOME T-SHIRTS AND THEN POSSIBLY A LITTLE PHOTO OPPORTUNITY. WE WOULD LOVE THAT.

THE STUDENTS HAVE SHIRTS FOR THE TRUSTEES, AND I THINK THEY'RE GOING TO BRING THOSE UP.

IF YOU WANT TO UNFURL THEM, MR. MCWHORTER IS GOING TO COME UP AND TAKE A PHOTOGRAPH.

WHILE THEY'RE DOING THAT, I JUST WANTED TO PERSONALLY THANK AGAIN OLIVIA AND HADLEY.

THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE AND COORDINATING YOUR FRIENDS AND OUR TEACHERS, MY COLLEAGUES, KAYLEE, MATT, SARAH, NIKKI, THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE AS WELL, SO BROOKLYN, THANK YOU.

>> BEST T-SHIRT IN TOWN.

>> THANK YOU.

>> DO YOU WANT THEM TO COME BEHIND US AND WE'LL HOLD THE SHIRTS UP AND WE CAN ALL GET PHOTOGRAPH TOGETHER.

>> YOU WANT WANT THEM IN FRONT?

>> SURE. THAT'S FINE.

>> WE CAN STAND BEHIND THEM [BACKGROUND].

>> WE'LL STAND BEHIND THEM PLEASE.

>> YOU GUYS JUST GO AROUND BEHIND THE TABLE.

WELCOME, COME UP HERE. COME ACROSS GUYS.

>> COME HERE IN FRONT.

>> TAKE THE PICTURE.

>> COME OVER HERE.

>> [BACKGROUND].

>> YOU CAN STAND IN FRONT OF US HERE, YOUR HONOR.

>> IN YOUR HAND.

>> CAN I STAND NEXT TO YOU?

>> OKAY.

>> EVERYBODY, LOOK RIGHT HERE.

WE'RE GOING TO SMILE BIG.

WE'RE ALL GOING TO TAKE PICTURES.

LYN, YOU HAVE TO SMILE NOW.

>> NO PROBLEM.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU SO MUCH.

[00:15:10]

>> THANK YOU. [INAUDIBLE]

>> I DON'T THINK THERE IS A BETTER EXAMPLE OF THE VALUE WE PLACE ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION THAN OUR STUDENTS IN THE BEST BUDDIES PROGRAM.

WELL, THE LAST THING THAT I WANT TO MENTION FOR YOU THIS EVENING, AND THAT IS THE SPECIAL BOX THAT YOU HAVE IN FRONT OF YOU.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO OPEN IT RIGHT NOW BECAUSE IT IS PACKAGED SO NICELY.

BUT I'LL OPEN MINE SO YOU CAN SEE IT.

THIS IS FROM OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT.

THIS IS A COMMEMORATIVE PATCH AND THIS LAST WEEK ALL OF OUR OFFICERS DEBUTED THEIR NEW UNIFORMS AND THEIR EQUIPMENT.

IN FACT, LIEUTENANT KAYLEE, WOULD YOU LIKE TO STAND UP AND MODEL THE NEW UNIFORM FOR US? THE OFFICERS WEAR THIS PATCH ON THEIR CEREMONIAL UNIFORM AND THEY WANTED EACH OF YOU TO HAVE A COMMEMORATIVE VERSION OF THAT AS WELL, SO THAT'S WHAT'S IN YOUR BOX.

LIEUTENANT KAYLEE AND YOUR COLLEAGUES, THANK YOU FOR THIS GIFT AND THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO.

THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT FOR THIS EVENING.

>> WE WERE HAVING A FASHION SHOW.

>> WE NEED A REGULAR FASHION SHOW.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, DR. ARNETT.

WE WILL NOW MOVE INTO OUR REPORTS.

[7.1 School Safety and Health Advisory Council (SSHAC) Annual Report]

OUR FIRST REPORT IS FROM THE SCHOOL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADVISORY COUNCIL, THE SSHAC, AS WE CALL IT FOR THE ANNUAL REPORT.

LET'S SEE, WE'LL HAVE MOLLY MAE AND LAURIE LEE AND HIM AS WELL.

YOU'RE NOT LISTED ON MY INTRODUCTION SHEET, SO THANK YOU FOR BEING HERE. HERE SHE IS, MATT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> WELL, GOOD EVENING BOARD.

IT'S LOVELY TO BE HERE WITH Y'ALL AGAIN.

THIS YEAR WE'VE HAD A TREMENDOUS, WONDERFUL YEAR.

WE STARTED THIS YEAR IN PERSON.

LAST YEAR WE HAD OUR VIRTUAL MEETINGS, AND OUR MEETINGS HAVE BEEN VERY WELL ATTENDED BY PARENTS, STAFF, AND STUDENTS.

WE'VE REALLY DID A LOT OF AMAZING WORK AND I CAN'T BELIEVE THE YEAR IS OVER AND WE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL THE SUPPORT THAT YOU'VE PROVIDED US THROUGHOUT THE YEARS.

NEXT SLIDE. JUST TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BRIEF OVERVIEW OF SSHAC.

WE ARE APPOINTED BODY BY YOU ALL GOVERNED.

WE'VE BEEN MANDATED BY THE TEXAS LEGISLATURE IN EARLY 1995, SENATE BILL 1.

THEY WANTED TO PROMOTE HEALTH AND WELLNESS IN SCHOOLS.

EVER SINCE THAT ORIGINAL BILL UNDER THE TEXAS CODE OF EDUCATION HAS TO EXPAND OUR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ON THE BOARD, WHICH INCLUDES PRIMARILY RECOMMENDING POLICIES AND CURRICULUM THAT REALLY ADDRESSES THE HEALTH OF OUR STUDENT BODY AND TEACHERS AS WELL.

AS YOU CAN SEE HERE ARE SOME SEVERAL BILLS, AND WITHIN THOSE BILLS, WE TRIED REALLY TO ABIDE BY THEM.

SOMETIMES WE ARE PROVIDED WITH A BILL, WE DON'T REALLY KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH IT.

WE TRY OUR BEST.

TO OUR KNOWLEDGE, WE HAVE ACTUALLY EXCEEDED EXPECTATIONS COMPARISON TO OTHER DISTRICTS, AND IT ALL GOES TO THE GREAT TEAM THAT YOU HAVE, MOLLY, AND LESLIE, AND EVERYONE ON THIS COMMITTEE.

REALLY, THE PURPOSE, AS I MENTIONED, IS PROVIDING RECOMMENDATIONS TO YOUR BOARD AND PRIMARILY OUR ROLES INCLUDE PROGRAM PLANNING, PROMOTION, FISCAL IMPLICATION, AND MOST IMPORTANTLY, WE SERVE AS THE LIAISONS TO YOU ALL AND WE ARE GOVERNED THAT WE HAVE TO PROVIDE YOU WITH A REPORT, AN ANNUAL REPORT.

THIS YEAR WE'RE PROVIDING IT TO YOU EARLY ON.

WHICH TYPICALLY, WE PROVIDED AT END OF I THINK END YOUR JUNE MEETINGS.

ALSO SOMETHING THAT I MISSED BY LAW, WE'RE ONLY REQUIRED TO HAVE FOUR MEETINGS, BUT I CAN TEST WE HAVE MEETINGS ALL THROUGHOUT THE ACADEMIC YEAR AND THEY ARE WELL ATTENDED.

AGAIN, THANK Y'ALL FOR THE SUPPORT AND I'M GOING TO PASS IT ALL TO MOLLY.

>> LAURIE.

THANK YOU. YES, AS MARAM SAID, WE SPENT THE YEAR TALKING ABOUT QUITE A FEW THINGS.

[00:20:04]

WE STARTED THIS YEAR WITH OUR PRESENTATIONS.

WE HAD THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION COME AND TALK WITH US ABOUT FINN'S MISSION ON THE HANDS-ON CPR AND OUR KID'S HEART CHALLENGE.

WE ARE ALWAYS REALLY EXCITED TO HAVE INDIVIDUALS COME IN AND PRESENT TO THE SSHAC.

I THINK IT'S ALWAYS VERY WELL RECEIVED.

WE GET A LOT OF GREAT INFORMATION FROM THEM.

WE ALSO, AS MARAM HAD MENTIONED, TALKED ABOUT LEGISLATIVE UPDATES.

SO THIS YEAR WE TALKED ABOUT VAPING AND I THINK EVERYONE SAW THE POSTERS THAT WERE MADE AND PUT AT THE CAMPUSES THAT TALKED ABOUT THE VAPING.

WE ALSO HAD HAYS COUNTY COME IN AGAIN AND DO OUR FENTANYL INSTRUCTION.

THAT WAS REALLY GREAT FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS TO SEE.

WE JUST, THIS LAST MEETING ABOUT A WEEK AGO HAD OUR CHIEF OF POLICE, MATT GREER, COME IN AND TALK ABOUT OUR THREAT ASSESSMENT NOTIFICATION AND THE PROCESS THAT THEY DO HERE AT EANES ISD.

SO THAT WAS REALLY GREAT INFORMATION AND I THINK IT'S REALLY GOOD FOR OUR COMMUNITY, OUR STUDENTS, AND OUR TEACHERS TO KIND OF KNOW WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON.

SOMETIMES IT'S GOOD TO GET TOGETHER AND SEE THOSE PROCESSES.

WE ALSO HAD A COUPLE OF REALLY AMAZING PRESENTATIONS FROM HEIDI SAUER, WHO'S OUR COORDINATOR OF COUNSELING.

SHE DID A PROMOTION WITH THE COUNSELORS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL.

I THINK IT CAME FROM AN IDEA FROM THE BOARD MEETING.

DO OUR STUDENTS KNOW WHO THEIR COUNSELOR IS? THEY DID A REALLY BIG PUSH AT THE HIGH SCHOOL TO PROMOTE THE COUNSELORS THAT THEY'RE THERE FOR, WHAT THEY DO FOR THE KIDS, AND JUST GET THAT INFORMATION OUT.

MAYBE SOME STUDENTS AREN'T QUITE AWARE.

THAT WAS A REALLY GOOD PROMOTION AND HEIDI DID SPEAK TO THAT.

THEN ALSO THE SUICIDE PREVENTION INSTRUCTION THAT HEIDI HAS BROUGHT INTO THE DISTRICT AND HAD THOSE CONVERSATIONS, I THINK THEY'VE ALWAYS BEEN VERY WELL RECEIVED.

>> THE OTHER PRESENTATIONS WE DID THIS YEAR, CHILD NUTRITION CAME IN.

RICHARD MALLARD AND CHARLOTTE HACHENBERG CAME IN AND REALLY TALKED TO US ABOUT, WE WENT OFF THE PROGRAM LAST YEAR, THE FEDERAL FOOD NUTRITION PROGRAM, AND WE'RE DOING A LOT OF THINGS JUST IN-HOUSE NOW, AND YOU CAN SEE THEY TALKED ABOUT MORE SCRATCH COOKING, MORE BEVERAGE OPTIONS, MORE LOCAL PRODUCE.

REALLY THEY WALKED US THROUGH A LOT OF THEIR PROCESSES AND IT'S BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL.

I THINK THAT THE SWITCH HAS BEEN GOOD FOR THE STUDENTS WITH CHOICE, A LOT OF DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT THEY HAVE AND SOME HEALTHIER OPTIONS THAT ARE NOW AVAILABLE.

THAT WAS A GREAT PRESENTATION WE HAD TALKED ABOUT LAST YEAR.

THEY CAME IN, THEY SORT OF SAID, OKAY, THIS IS WHAT WE'RE GOING TO DO.

EVERYONE WAS LIKE, WHAT'S IT GOING TO LOOK LIKE? SO WE BROUGHT THEM BACK IN THIS YEAR JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ALWAYS TRY TO FOLLOW UP WITH SSHAC ANYTIME WE'RE INTRODUCING SOMETHING NEW SO WE CAN KIND OF CLOSE THAT LOOP.

THEN LAST WEEK, YOU GUYS, FROM OUR LAST MEETING YOU HEARD FROM DIANE AND THE DEI COMMITTEE.

HEIDI DID THE SAME PRESENTATION AROUND THE LGBTQ.

THAT THE PRESENTATION THAT WAS DONE JUST TO STAFF AND SHE'S GONE NOW TO MOST OF THE CAMPUSES, BUT ALSO PRESENTED THAT EXACT SAME PRESENTATION TO SSHAC.

AGAIN, THAT PRESENTATION IS SPECIFICALLY FOR STAFF TO SUPPORT AND HOW THEY CAN SUPPORT AND KIND OF JUST HAVE A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THAT POPULATION WITHIN OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT.

THEN LAURIE JUST MENTIONED THAT MATT GREER CAME TO THE LAST MEETING AND AS Y'ALL ARE AWARE, WE HAVE AN ASSESSMENT AND CARE TEAM THAT IS REQUIRED BY STATE LAW, AND MATT REALLY WALKED THROUGH THE PROCESS THAT WE GO THROUGH WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT A CASE, HOW CASES EVEN COME TO OUR TEAM.

IT WAS A REALLY ENGAGED MEETING.

I WOULD SAY THAT THAT MEETING PROBABLY LASTED LONGER THAN ANY OF OUR OTHER MEETINGS THIS YEAR WITH JUST LOTS OF QUESTIONS, REALLY GREAT PROBING QUESTIONS.

MATT'S DONE A GREAT JOB WITH THAT.

THAT PARTICULAR PRESENTATION THAT MATT DID FOR SSHAC HAS BEEN PRESENTED.

WE TALKED ABOUT THIS EARLIER IN THE YEAR, THE FBI CAME IN AND MATT PRESENTED THAT SAME PRESENTATION TO HIM.

THAT PRESENTATION HAS ALSO BEEN DONE TO SOME CAMPUSES AND OTHER GROUPS THAT MATT DOES THAT PRESENTATION.

THEN LAST BUT NOT LEAST, EVERYONE IS INVITED TO OUR HERO CELEBRATION ON MAY 8, HERE AT 4:30.

WE INVITE YOU GUYS TO COME AND, WE ALWAYS HONOR OUR LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT.

THIS YEAR WE GET TO HONOR OUR OWN POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHICH IS PRETTY AMAZING.

THEN JUST, WESTLAKE AND ROLLINGWOOD AND ALL THE DIFFERENT TRAVIS COUNTY THAT SUPPORT US.

THEN WE HAVE SOME LOCAL HEROES THAT HAVE DONE SOME PRETTY AMAZING THINGS WITHIN

[00:25:04]

OUR OWN SCHOOL DISTRICT THAT ALSO GET HONORED AT THAT PARTICULAR DAY.

IT HAS BEEN, AS MARAM SAID, A VERY BUSY YEAR, JUST A LOT OF DIFFERENT TOPICS THAT COME UP.

OUR STUDENTS WERE REALLY ENGAGED THIS YEAR, WHICH IS GREAT.

WE HAVE TASKED THEM WITH FINDING NEW STUDENTS FOR NEXT YEAR BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ARE GRADUATING.

BUT WE HAVE A VERY ACTIVE GROUP THAT JUST REALLY KIND OF CRAVES THIS INFORMATION AND THEN TAKES IT BACK OUT INTO THE COMMUNITY, WHICH IS REALLY HELPFUL FOR US SO THAT OTHER PEOPLE KIND OF KNOW WHAT'S GOING ON IN THIS AREA.

SO THAT'S OUR SSHAC PRESENTATION.

ANY QUESTIONS?

>> THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WOULD YOU HAVE A QUESTION FROM KIM?

>> DID YOU START?

>> I WANTED TO START OFF BY THANKING ALL THREE OF YOU, AS WELL AS THE SSHAC COMMITTEE.

I'VE FOLLOWED THIS FOR TEN YEARS AT LEAST AND PARTICIPATED FOR A LITTLE WHILE.

YOU DO GOOD THINGS. I LOVE THAT THERE ARE THEMES THAT I SEE COME THROUGH YEAR AFTER YEAR THAT YOU TALK ABOUT.

I ALSO, AND MOLLY, YOU JUST MENTIONED THAT STUDENTS ARE ON THE SSHAC COMMITTEE, WHICH I THINK BRINGS JUST A DYNAMIC TO THAT.

GETTING ACTION ITEMS LIKE BRINGING COUNSELING RESOURCES OUT TO STUDENTS IS AN EXAMPLE OF PROBABLY THE STUDENT'S PARTICIPATION ON YOUR COMMITTEE.

SO I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

I WANTED TO ASK, NUMBER 1, I'M COMING TO THE HEROES CELEBRATION BECAUSE IT'S ALWAYS FUN.

I'D LOVE THAT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT IS GOING TO BE THERE AS WELL AS OTHER HEROES.

BUT I WANTED TO SEE, I KNOW THAT THIS PRESENTATION IS ABOUT WHAT WE'VE DONE OR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE IN THE LAST YEAR.

ARE THERE THINGS THAT YOU COULD SHARE WITH THE COMMUNITY AND WITH THIS BOARD ABOUT WHAT YOU SEE OR NEXT YEAR'S SSHAC COMMITTEE?

>> WE TRY TO DO A NEEDS ASSESSMENT KIND OF TOWARD THE END OF THIS YEAR AND GET SOME TOPICS SO WE CAN START LOOKING FOR PEOPLE OVER THE SUMMER.

I KNOW ONE GROUP THAT HAS REACHED OUT AND WE'RE VERY INTERESTED IN THAT, IS AROUND SAFE GUN STORAGE.

IT'S A REQUIREMENT BY THE LAW THAT WE PROVIDE INFORMATION AROUND THAT.

WE DO HAVE INFORMATION UP ON OUR WEBSITE, BUT THAT'S A PRESENTATION WE'VE TRIED TO LOOK AT FOR NEXT YEAR.

ADDITIONALLY, WE HAVE HAD CRIME STOPPERS OF HOUSTON COME INTO A LOT OF OUR SCHOOLS AND DO WORK AROUND CYBERBULLYING AND JUST SOCIAL MEDIA SAFETY.

THOSE PRESENTATIONS HAVE BEEN REALLY GREAT.

WE'D LIKE TO GO AHEAD AND TRY TO ALSO BRING THEM INTO SSHAC AND THEN ALSO SEE HOW WE CAN EXPAND THEIR REACH WITHIN THE DISTRICT.

A LOT OF IT'S BEEN SORT OF JUST CAMPUS BY CAMPUS AND WE'RE THINKING ABOUT SOME BIGGER EVENTS.

SO I CAN TELL YOU THOSE ARE TWO THINGS THAT ARE ALREADY ON OUR AGENDA.

BUT WE ALWAYS KIND OF TRY TO GET A FEEL, TOO, FROM THE COMMUNITY AND FROM OUR STUDENTS OF THINGS THAT THEY WANT TO SEE.

>> ALSO, UNFINISHED BUSINESS AS WELL THAT WE WANT TO CONTINUE ON.

I THINK FROM LAST YEAR WAS THE SEX ED, SUPPLEMENTAL EDUCATION.

THAT'S STILL PENDING AS WELL.

WE'RE CONTINUING ON AS NEEDED, AND WE NEVER KNOW WHEN EVEN A CRISIS MAY HAPPEN.

WE HAD COVID, NO ONE EVER EXPECTED COVID TO HAPPEN.

SO WE HAD TO ADAPT.

ALSO, WE TRY TO MAKE OUR AGENDAS ALL TO COMPLY WITH OUR LEGISLATURES.

THE BILLS THAT WE ARE MANDATED BY, BUT ALSO WHAT'S HAPPENING WITHIN THE COMMUNITY ITSELF AND WHAT IT BRINGS.

SO WE ALWAYS TRY TO MAKE IT MORE FLEXIBLE, AMENDABLE TO ASSESS THE NEEDED ISSUES THAT WE NEEDED TO ADDRESS.

>> GREAT. WELL, THANK YOU AGAIN, AND THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.

YOU'VE BEEN A CONTINUING PRESENCE ON SSHAC FOR QUITE A WHILE. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, KIM. WE'LL GO TO DIANE, AND THEN ELLEN, AND THEN HEATHER.

>> THANK YOU. AS WITH KIM, I'VE BEEN INVOLVED.

IT'S NICE TO SEE YOU ALL AGAIN.

I MISS BEING ON THE SSHAC PERSONALLY.

I WAS PART OF THE DISCUSSIONS OF THE SHIFT IN THE FOOD SERVICE, AND I'M CURIOUS, HOW IS THAT GOING? DO WE KNOW THAT THE STUDENTS ARE REALLY ENJOYING THIS? DO WE KNOW IF IT'S A SUCCESS? WE'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO SAMPLE SOME OF THE FOOD AT OUR DINNERS THAT WE HAVE BEFORE BOARD MEETINGS AND WE'VE ENJOYED IT.

BUT HOW IS THAT GOING? DO WE KNOW WHAT THE STUDENTS THINK OF IT?

>> WELL, I CAN TELL YOU THE LAST MEETING THEY CAME, WE WERE LITERALLY DROOLING.

[LAUGHTER] THE WAY HOW THEY DESCRIBED IT AND THE STUDENTS LOVED IT.

THE BEAUTY OF INCLUDING STUDENTS AT OUR MEETINGS, THEY CAN ATTEST IS SOMETHING WORKING OR NOT AND THEY GIVE US IMMEDIATE FEEDBACK.

BASED ON EVERYTHING THAT WE'VE HEARD, IT'S GOING WONDERFUL.

[00:30:05]

THERE WAS ONLY GOOD THINGS REALLY REPORTED AND ALSO I LEARNED, THEY ALSO CATER SO IF ANYONE WHO HAS UPCOMING PARTY, GRADUATION, PART OF [INAUDIBLE] THEY'RE MORE HAPPY TO CATER AND YOU CAN TASTE IT HANDS ON.

BUT THE STUDENTS REALLY FOUND IT TO BE VERY WONDERFUL AND HEALTHY.

AND A LOT OF OPTIONS AND CLEAN FOOD THAT IT'S BEING OFFERED AND AFFORDABLE AT THE SCHOOLS.

EXCEPT THE CHICK FILLET SANDWICHES WHICH ARE NOT.

[LAUGHTER].

>> WELL, MAYBE THIS IS A NEW REVENUE GENERATOR FOR US.

[LAUGHTER] THEN THANK YOU FOR SHARING A LITTLE BIT MORE ABOUT THE OPERATIONS OF THE COMMITTEE, THE STUDENTS ON THE COMMITTEE.

IT'S FANTASTIC. WE STILL HAVE A REPRESENTATIVE FROM EVERY CAMPUS.

CAN YOU JUST TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE MAKEUP OF THE COMMITTEE AND DO WE HAVE AT LARGE MEMBERS FROM THE COMMUNITY?

>> YES. WE HAVE SOME COMMUNITY MEMBERS.

WE TRY TO GET SOMEBODY FROM EVERY CAMPUS.

SOME YEARS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS.

WE CERTAINLY REACH OUT AND SEEK PEOPLE TO BE ON THE COMMITTEE.

USUALLY, THERE'S SOMEONE FROM EVERY COMMITTEE.

WE HAVE A NURSE, WE HAVE A HEALTH TEACHER.

WE HAVE THE CERT TEACHER FROM THE HIGH SCHOOL IS ON THERE.

>> ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS.

>> YEAH, WE HAVE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS ON THERE.

I THINK WE HAVE STAFF FROM EVERY CAMPUS AND USUALLY, A REPRESENTATIVE OR TWO COMMUNITY MEMBER OR PARENT FROM EACH CAMPUS.

THEN THE OTHER THING IS JUST, PEOPLE THAT ARE INVOLVED WITH SSHAC ARE PRETTY PASSIONATE ABOUT SSHAC AND HAVE USUALLY A BACKGROUND.

WE USUALLY JUST END UP WITH JUST SUCH A PHENOMENAL GROUP OF PEOPLE WITH EXPERTISE IN LOTS OF DIFFERENT AREAS.

I THINK THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SUCH A RICH GROUP BECAUSE WE MIGHT BE TALKING ABOUT CHILD NUTRITION, AND YOU HAVE A NUTRITIONIST THERE, AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND YOU HAVE A THERAPIST THERE.

WE TRY ALSO TO BRING IN THOSE PEOPLE TOO, THAT HAVE THAT EXPERTISE WHEN THEY'RE WANTING TO BE ON THE COMMITTEE.

NOW, THEY CAN JUST BE INTERESTED AND HAVE NO BACKGROUND NECESSARILY IN THESE AREAS, BUT THOSE PEOPLE GRAVITATE TOWARD SSHAC, AND THAT MAKES IT A REALLY POWERFUL GROUP.

>> FANTASTIC. I'M GLAD TO HEAR THAT THE SAFE GUN TOPIC IS COMING UP BECAUSE THAT'S ONE WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT A LITTLE BIT AND I'VE BEEN HEARING THE COMMUNITY ASK ABOUT, SO THANK YOU.

>> ELLEN AND THEN HEATHER.

>> I WANTED TO ADD MY THANKS, ESPECIALLY TO YOU THREE.

YOU'VE BEEN IN THE TRENCHES FOR A LONG TIME ON THIS AND SSHAC HAS DEALT WITH SO MANY IMPORTANT TOPICS THAT ARE NOT NECESSARILY EASY TOPICS.

Y'ALL HAVE DONE THAT REALLY WELL.

YOUR LEADERSHIP, I THINK, IS WHAT HAS MADE THOSE CONVERSATIONS SO PRODUCTIVE AND MADE THE GROUP SO COHESIVE IN BEING ABLE TO REALLY GET INPUT FROM A WIDE VARIETY OF PEOPLE AND MOVE THE ISSUE FORWARD.

I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> MOLLY, YOU ALLUDED TO RECRUITMENT THIS SUMMER AND I KNOW THAT'S A PROCESS EVERY YEAR AND SOME YEARS ARE BETTER THAN OTHERS.

IS THERE ANYTHING WE CAN DO TO HELP OR ENCOURAGE PEOPLE? SEND THEM YOUR WAY.

WHAT CAN WE DO TO HELP?

>> ABSOLUTELY. I THINK IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN ANYTHING AROUND SCHOOL HEALTH AND SAFETY, ABSOLUTELY, SEND THEM OUR WAY.

YOU CAN SEND THEM TO LAURIE AND I DIRECTLY.

WE HAVE THE LINK ON THE WEBSITE FOR PEOPLE THAT ARE INTERESTED IN JUST SERVING.

I'LL BE HONEST, WE DON'T REALLY TURN PEOPLE DOWN.

WE DON'T HAVE A SIZE LIMIT FOR SSHAC.

WE JUST LET PEOPLE COME.

IF THEY'RE INTERESTED, WE REALLY WANT THEM.

>> GREAT, WONDERFUL. THANK YOU.

>> JUST TO FOLLOW UP ON THE INPUTS THAT WE RECEIVE, I THINK WE TRY, AND MOLLY AND LAURIE, THEY'VE DONE A PHENOMENAL JOB.

WE TRY TO BE AS EMBRACING AND WELCOMING AND NOT CONTROVERSY AS WELL.

EVERYONE'S VOICE MATTERS REGARDLESS IF WE AGREE OR DISAGREE TO A SUBJECT MATTER BECAUSE EVERYONE COMES IN FROM A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE.

BUT WE ALSO TRY TO BE AS CORDIAL AS POSSIBLE AND REALLY WE VET THE ISSUE IF IT'S POSSIBLE TO BRING IT FORTH.

IF NOT, THEY'LL BE REDIRECTED OR DIRECTED TO A DIFFERENT VENUE.

WE JUST WANT EVERYONE TO BRING IN THEIR INPUTS AND MAKE SURE THAT YOUR VOICES ARE HEARD AND IT MATTERS AS WELL.

>> YOU DO THAT BEAUTIFULLY, SO THANK YOU. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

>> HEATHER.

>> I SAY IT EVERY TIME AND I'M GOING TO SAY IT AGAIN.

I APPRECIATE THE EXTRA S IN SSHAC THAT WE HAVE HERE IN EANES ISD BECAUSE IT'S IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ADDRESSING SAFETY AND HEALTH, SO I APPRECIATE IT, AND SECURITY.

BUT I ALSO AM A LITTLE BIT ENVIOUS THAT SSHAC IS

[00:35:02]

GETTING ALL THESE AWESOME PRESENTATIONS THAT WE HAVE YET TO SEE.

I'VE HEARD SUCH GREAT THINGS ABOUT MATT AND HEIDI'S PRESENTATION, SO I'M GLAD THAT THE SSHAC HAS SEEN IT.

I AM ALSO REALLY HAPPY TO KNOW THAT SSHAC HAS HEARD MORE ABOUT THE SUICIDE PREVENTION AND THE COUNSELING SERVICES.

I ESPECIALLY ASK OR BRING THAT UP BECAUSE IT'S BEEN A LITTLE BIT OF A TOUGH YEAR FOR A LOT OF OUR KIDDOS AT THE HIGH SCHOOL ESPECIALLY.

I'M WONDERING IF THERE'S BEEN ANY DISCUSSION GOING FORWARD ON BRINGING IN MORE ABOUT THE PARTNERSHIPS THAT WE HAVE.

I KNOW WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THIS, ABOUT PARTNERSHIPS THAT WE DO MAYBE WITH COMMUNITY PARTNERS LIKE CHRISTIE CENTER OR OTHERS JUST TO TALK ABOUT NEEDS-BASED COUNSELING OR GRIEF COUNSELING AND/OR CRISIS INTERVENTION.

IS THERE ANYTHING PLANNED [OVERLAPPING]

>> WE HAVEN'T TALKED ABOUT THAT SPECIFICALLY THROUGH SSHAC.

A LOT OF THAT HAPPENS MORE UNDER THE COUNSELING.

I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T THANK HEIDI SAUER.

SHE IS THE FOURTH PERSON IN THIS GROUP, AND SO I JUST WANT TO THANK HER TONIGHT.

SHE DOES A LOT OF THAT WITH THE COUNSELORS AND THE SCHOOL-BASED THERAPISTS.

FOR EXAMPLE, NEXT TUESDAY NIGHT WHEN WE'RE BRINGING IN THAT PRESENTATION ON SUICIDE AWARENESS AND PREVENTION.

IT'S CERTAINLY BEEN TALKED ABOUT IN SSHAC IN TERMS OF WHAT WE'RE DOING.

WE HAVEN'T REALLY MADE THAT A FOCUS WITH THOSE DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS, BUT CERTAINLY, WE CAN.

BUT TRYING TO USUALLY GET THAT INFORMATION OUT ON THE CAMPUS LEVEL A LITTLE BIT MORE DIRECT.

>> GREAT, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. JEN.

>> I JUST WANTED TO ALSO ADD MY THANKS AND MY KUDOS.

THIS GROUP HAS BECOME SUCH AN IMPRESSIVE GROUP OF PEOPLE WORKING ON IMPORTANT ISSUES FOR THE DISTRICT.

IT'S EVOLVED BECAUSE THERE WAS A TIME MANY YEARS AGO WHERE THIS GROUP OPERATED DIFFERENTLY.

WE DIDN'T HAVE THE ROBUST COMMITTEE THAT WE HAVE NOW AND THAT'S REALLY DUE TO YOUR LEADERSHIP AND THE FACT THAT I HEAR YOU SAYING, WE TAKE EVERYBODY AND WE HAVE THIS LARGE COMMITTEE.

IT WASN'T THE CASE MANY YEARS AGO AND OVER THE PAST SIX, EIGHT YEARS, IT'S REALLY CHANGED AND IT'S BROUGHT A LOT OF VALUE TO THE DISTRICT.

I JUST WANT TO SAY THANK YOU. IT'S REALLY APPRECIATED.

>> THANK YOU. OUR MEETINGS, WE RUN A TIGHT SHIP.

WE START ON TIME AND WE END ON TIME RESPECTING EVERYONE'S TIME.

[LAUGHTER] MAYBE THAT'S INCENTIVE WHY EVERYONE'S DAYS, THEY KNOW WHEN TO EXPECT TO LEAVE.

BUT AGAIN, PERSONALLY ON BEHALF OF THE SSHAC COMMITTEE, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT AND YOU'RE MORE THAN WELCOME TO ATTEND ANY OF OUR MEETINGS.

WE HOPE TO SEE YOU ON MAY 8TH.

>> THANK YOU ALL.

I DID ADD THE HEROES CELEBRATION TO OUR SHARED TRUSTEE CALENDAR, SO WE ALL HAVE IT ON OUR CALENDAR.

I THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR BEING HERE AND APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT YOU AND THE COMMITTEE DO. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, GUYS.

>> WE HAVE A DISCUSSION ITEM AND REACTION ITEM.

TONIGHT WE'RE DISCUSSING THE BOARD PRIORITIES WITH A PLAN

[8.1 Board Priorities]

TO ASK FOR A VOTE IN OUR NEXT MEETING.

DR. ARNETT, WILL YOU LEAD US THROUGH THAT CONVERSATION?

>> I WILL. THANK YOU VERY MUCH.

WE'RE STILL ON THE TIMELINE FOR THE APPROVAL OF THE BOARD PRIORITIES AS MR. SPRADLEY SAID AT YOUR APRIL 23RD MEETING, THIS KEEPS US WITHIN THAT SEQUENCE OF EVENTS WHERE WE TRY TO COMPLETE BOARD PRIORITIES, THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN BEFORE THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR SO THAT CAMPUSES CAN BEGIN WORKING ON THEIR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS.

SO EVERYTHING IS STILL ON SCHEDULE AND WE WANTED TO REVISIT THE PRIORITIES WITH YOU THIS EVENING.

AND A REMINDER OUT OF YOUR BOARD SUMMIT ON FEBRUARY 1ST AND 2ND, WE HAVE SIX PRIORITIES.

THOSE ARE IDENTIFIED ON EACH OF THESE BANNERS AND THEN UNDERNEATH EACH ONE OF THOSE ARE THE BOARD OBJECTIVES.

SO YOU HAVE THE OVERARCHING PRIORITY THAT YOU SEE ACROSS THE TOP AND THEN UNDERNEATH EACH PRIORITY, YOU HAVE TYPICALLY THREE OBJECTIVES THAT THE BOARD HAS IDENTIFIED THAT YOU REALLY WOULD LIKE FOR US TO FOCUS ON ADMINISTRATIVELY.

SO THE NEXT STEP IN THE PROCESS IS TO TAKE EACH ONE OF THE PRIORITIES AND YOUR OBJECTIVES AND THEN TO IDENTIFY WHAT ARE THE TACTICAL OR ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS, THOSE THINGS THAT WE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR AS A DISTRICT TEAM LEADERS.

AND SO WE'VE DONE THAT, WE'VE REVIEWED IT WITH YOU AT YOUR PREVIOUS MEETINGS.

AND SO TONIGHT WHAT WE'RE REALLY FOCUSED ON IS THAT SECOND COLUMN ON THIS CHART, WHICH ARE THE TACTICAL OR THE ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES.

FOR THE PUBLIC WHO MAY BE VIEWING THIS THIS IS EASIER TO SEE IF YOU LOOK AT THE ONLINE VERSION OF THE AGENDA BECAUSE WE KNOW THAT ON THE SCREEN THE TEXT IS VERY SMALL BUT WANTED TO WALK THROUGH THIS WITH YOU AND IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT A SPECIFIC MEASURE,

[00:40:04]

WE'LL CALL FORWARD ANY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE CABINET WHO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT AREA.

BUT LET ME SAY THIS ABOUT THE ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES.

THESE ARE MEANT TO BE A STEP TOWARDS HOW WE WILL DETERMINE THE PROGRESS OR THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE OBJECTIVES AND THE PRIORITIES THAT YOU HAVE IDENTIFIED.

THIS IS NOT A COMPLETED WORK, THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS.

THE WAY THAT WE HAVE APPROACHED THIS IS WE'VE IDENTIFIED WHAT WE THINK WOULD BE THE GENERAL MEASURE, BUT WE WILL ADMIT AND ACKNOWLEDGE THAT AT SOME POINT DURING THE COURSE OF THE NEXT SEVERAL MONTHS, WE'RE PROBABLY GOING TO ZERO IN ON A SPECIFIC MEASURE OR DATA POINT THAT WILL HELP US DETERMINE THE PROGRESS.

I WOULD LOOK AT THIS AS A SORT OF INSTRUMENT PANEL.

WE'RE TRYING TO GAUGE HOW WE'RE MOVING TOWARDS THE ACHIEVEMENT OF THE PRIORITIES AND THE OBJECTIVES, HOW WE'RE WORKING TOWARDS THE TACTICAL OR THE ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS BUT THE MEASURES THEMSELVES ARE MEANT TO REPRESENT SMALL, CONSTANT SEGMENTS OF CHANGE.

HOW WE'RE MEASURING THESE THINGS, THE INSTRUMENTS THAT WE'RE PAYING ATTENTION TO THROUGHOUT THE YEAR.

WHAT WE'VE DONE IS WE'VE IDENTIFIED WHAT WE THINK WILL BE THE GENERAL MEASURE, BUT AT SOME POINT, WE'RE GOING TO BRING GREATER SPECIFICITY TO THIS.

IT IS AN ORGANIC DOCUMENT AND WE EXPECT THAT THAT'S GOING TO CONTINUE TO EVOLVE AND THEN THAT FINAL COLUMN IS SOMETHING THAT WE'LL PROBABLY DETERMINE TOGETHER EVEN AFTER THE FIRST YEAR AS WE LOOK AT SORT OF THE 3-5 YEAR WINDOW.

ONE OF THE OTHER THINGS THAT WE REALIZED IN TALKING ABOUT THE GENERAL MEASURES IS THAT THEY ARE VERY SIMILAR, IF NOT PARALLEL TO THE TACTICS OR THE ACTIONS THEMSELVES.

IN FACT, AS WE WERE WRITING THESE, ONE OF THE COMMENTS WE MADE IS THIS JUST FEELS LIKE ANOTHER WAY TO EXPRESS THE TACTIC OR THE ACTION BUT WE FEEL LIKE WITHIN THAT MEASURE THAT WE'VE LISTED, THERE WOULD BE A DATA POINT OR MORE THAT WILL EMERGE FROM THOSE.

WE'VE TRIED TO SUGGEST THREE MEASURES FOR EACH ONE OF YOUR OBJECTIVES AND THE TACTICAL ACTIONS AND IF YOU RECALL, OUR CONVERSATIONS WITH CASEY, THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS, IS THAT YOU FOCUS ON TWO OR THREE THINGS THAT WILL REALLY HELP YOU MONITOR THE PROGRESS AND MEASURE YOUR ACHIEVEMENT OF THAT PARTICULAR OBJECTIVE.

WITH THAT, I'M NOT GOING TO GO ONE BY ONE THROUGH THESE BECAUSE THERE ARE SO MANY OF THEM BUT IF YOU HAVE QUESTIONS AS YOU'VE HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW THEM, IF THERE'S SOMEBODY THAT YOU'D LIKE FOR US TO CALL FORWARD, THEY CAN TRY TO RESPOND TO THAT AND WE'LL HAVE THEM COME TO THE TABLE SO THAT THOSE VIEWING AT HOME CAN SEE THEM ON THE LIVE STREAM AS WELL.

>> THANK YOU, DOCTOR ARNETT. WE'LL START WITH HEATHER.

>> THANK YOU. DO WE WANT TO GO SECTION BY SECTION? AND MAYBE I DON'T KNOW IF YOU WANT TO JUMP AROUND TO TRUSTEES, IF THEY HAVE OTHER QUESTIONS IN THAT GROUP.

>> ON THIS SPECIFIC PRIORITY AND OBJECTIVE IN THE MEASURE.

>> I WANT TO START WITH.

>> BLUE, NUMBER ONE.

>> NUMBER ONE. THEN IF ANYONE WANT TO SAY ANYTHING ABOUT NUMBER 1, LET'S DISCUSS THAT.

>> IS THAT WHY WE'RE NOT JUMPING AROUND?

>> YEAH.

>> I JUST HAD A QUESTION ON 1.2B AND JUST WANTED CLARIFICATION ON WHAT YOU MEANT BY COMPLETING A PROGRAM OF STUDY.

>> TEA DEFINES SPECIFIC PROGRAMS OF STUDY AND IT OUTLINES WHEN YOU CAN ACTUALLY GET YOUR CCMR CREDIT BY ARTICULATED COURSES AND SO YOU HAVE TO TAKE A LEVEL 3 AND A LEVEL 4 COURSE AND THINGS LIKE THAT.

WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON RIGHT NOW IS TRYING TO ALIGN MORE OF THAT AND LAY THAT OUT FOR STUDENTS SO THEY CAN SEE WHERE THAT LEADS TO THAT.

WE'VE NOTICED WE HAVE SOME COURSES THAT SOMETIMES STUDENTS WILL TAKE SOMETHING BUT THEY DON'T REALIZE HOW THAT NEEDS TO WORK.

SOMETIMES YOU CAN EVEN GET AN INDUSTRY-BASED CERTIFICATION WITH THAT SO TRYING TO DO A LITTLE BIT BETTER, ALIGNING ALL OF THAT, LAYING THAT OUT.

>> THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE THAT. THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TOWARDS BUT I WANTED TO BE CLEAR BEFORE I ASK THE NEXT QUESTION BECAUSE I AM SEEING THAT THE 1.2 STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE FROM THE BOARD IS EXPLORATORY OPPORTUNITIES IN A VARIETY OF PATHWAYS TO INCREASE POST-SECONDARY OPTIONS BUT IN THE 1.2A, B AND ONE IN THE TACTICAL, I'M ONLY SEEING STUFF REALLY ON CTE.

ARE YOU GUYS MAYBE THINKING ACADEMIC EXPLORATION OPPORTUNITIES MAYBE? IS THAT WHERE DUAL CREDIT OR SOMETHING ELSE WOULD FALL IN OR IS IT JUST CTE?

>> NO. THIS IS REALLY LOUD. I'M GOING TO STAND BACK HERE.

WHEN YOU LOOK AT THE CAREER AND ACADEMIC EXPLORATION OPPORTUNITIES IN 1.2A THAT'S WHERE SOME OF THAT LEADS INTO.

[00:45:05]

>> I JUST WASN'T SURE IF IT WAS GOING TO BE CALLED OUT LIKE CTE OR NOT, BUT SO JUST ACADEMIC EXPLORATION OPPORTUNITIES WOULD ENCOMPASS MORE JUST THAN CTE? JUST TO BE VERY CLEAR.

>> YEAH, FOR SURE.

>> THEN ON THE NEXT ONE, FOR 1.3 FOR THE TACTICAL, FOR 1.3A, IT SOUNDS LIKE THAT WE'RE JUST USING STAR.

IF IT'S SR ARE THERE OTHER METRICS?

>> WELL, SO THAT'S SPECIFIC TO OUR SA EQUITY PLAN WHICH IS BASED ON STAR.

WE ARE DEFINITELY USING MORE METRICS AS TERMS OF PROGRESS MONITORING, LIKE ALL OF OUR BENCHMARKING THAT WE DO TO MAKE SURE KIDS ARE ON TASK, BUT ULTIMATELY TO GET OFF OF AN SA EQUITY PLAN, THEY'RE USING OUR STAR DATA, SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE USING BENCHMARKING.

WE WANT TO LOOK AT PROGRESS, BUT ULTIMATELY WE WOULD ALSO LIKE TO NOT BE ON AN S EQUITY PLAN.

>> YEAH, I THINK YOU KNOW THAT ANYTHING STAR-RELATED GIVES ME THE HIPS.

>> I DO. UNFORTUNATELY, IT IS THE WORLD WE LIVE IN WHEN THEY'RE HOLDING US ACCOUNTABLE FOR CERTAIN MEASURES THAT WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE MEETING.

>> ABSOLUTELY. I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE AND I KNOW WE ARE.

>> OUR GOAL IS TO REDUCE EQUITY GAPS BY MANY MEASURES NOT JUST STAR.

>> I APPRECIATE THAT. I GUESS MY HEARTBURN ON THIS WAS THAT IT JUST FELT LIKE THE GOAL WAS JUST STAR-RELATED AND THAT GOES TO THE POSITIVE GROWTH AND AGAIN, MAYBE I'M BEING OVERLY SENSITIVE TO IT BECAUSE I DON'T LOVE THAT ONE METRIC SPECIFICALLY.

I JUST WOULD APPRECIATE ANY WAY WE COULD CALL OUT OTHER THINGS AND ESPECIALLY BECAUSE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL AND, OF COURSE, EXAMS ARE TRICKY, ESPECIALLY FOR OUR KIDDOS THAT HAVE IEPS AND SO JUST MAKING SURE THAT WE AREN'T LEAVING THEM OUT IF THEY AREN'T LIKE A RE TESTER OR SEVEN.

>> YOU'LL SEE IN MAY WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BRING YOU GUYS BACK THE DIP.

IT LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT BECAUSE THIS IS SO ROBUST BUT THERE ARE ELEMENTS OF THIS THAT ARE DEFINED EVEN FURTHER IN THE DIP, THAT'S ONE OF THEM AND YOU'LL SEE ALL THE MEASURES THAT ARE NOT STAR.

>> PERFECT.

>> I THINK YOU'LL GET WHAT YOU WANT IN MAY.

THANK YOU. I APPRECIATE THAT.

>> THANK YOU, ETHER, DOES ANYONE ELSE HAVE ANYTHING FOR SECTION NUMBER 1?

>> HOW ABOUT SECTION NUMBER 2?

>> THIS ONE IS MOSTLY RELATED TO HUMAN RESOURCES.

LOYAL CERTAINLY WAS INSTRUMENTAL IN HELPING TO IDENTIFY THIS, BUT THERE ARE ELEMENTS OF IT AS WELL THAT LOOK FOR STAFF FEEDBACK AND HOW WE MEASURE OUR PROGRESS TOWARDS SOME OF THE THINGS THAT PERTAIN TO THE RECRUITMENT AND THE RETENTION OF STAFF AND THE CULTURE THAT WE WORK SO HARD TO BUILD.

ANY QUESTIONS ON THIS SET?

>> DIANE.

>> HI. THANK YOU. I HAVE JUST ONE QUESTION ABOUT 2.1 A AND B.

HOW IS B NOT ENCOMPASSED BY A? WHY DOES IT STAND APART I GUESS?

>> HONESTLY, IT IS ENCOMPASSED WITH OUR NEW SOCIAL MEDIA PUSH THAT WE'VE BEEN DOING.

BUT WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO FOCUS ON SOME VIRTUAL RECRUITMENT EVENTS.

WE DID HAVE ONE ON MARCH 26 THAT WAS VERY WELL ATTENDED.

WE HAD ABOUT AN 80 APPLICANTS WHO CAME ON.

WE HAD MULTIPLE DEPARTMENTS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, CAMPUSES REPRESENTED, WE TALKED IN A GROUP ABOUT OUR DISTRICT AND OUR CULTURE AND WHAT WE LOVED ABOUT EANES ISD AND THEN WE DID BREAK OUT INTO SESSIONS, AND SO WE HAD SOME REALLY GREAT CONVERSATIONS AND SOME VERY EXCITED APPLICANTS.

I THINK WE'RE REALLY, WHILE WE HAVE ALREADY BEEN DOING A LOT OF RECRUITING, OBVIOUSLY THROUGH SOCIAL MEDIA, I THINK WE'RE REALLY TRYING TO FOCUS ON THIS, TO MAKE THOSE CONNECTIONS WITH APPLICANTS, TO KEEP THEM IN OUR GROUP.

TO REACH OUT TO THEM, TO LET THEM KNOW, BECAUSE WE GOT OBVIOUSLY EVERYONE'S EMAIL AND SO THAT A WAY WE CAN REALLY PARSE OUT IF WE HAVE POSITIONS OPEN, WE CAN REACH OUT TO THEM TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THESE CONVERSATIONS THAT WE'RE HAVING IS BECAUSE WE WANT THEM TO BE A PART OF OUR TEAM AND OUR GROUP.

>> OKAY. SO THERE'S A LOT MORE.

>> YES. I THINK IT'S REALLY NEW TO US THIS YEAR, SO I THINK THAT'S WHY WE HAD IT SEPARATED, BUT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

>> AND AS YOU DESCRIBE THEM AND TALK BACK TO THE CULTURE AND HOW YOU'RE ABLE TO RELATE THAT? ABSOLUTELY. THAT IS ONE THING THAT WE ARE TRYING TO TALK ABOUT IS HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT.

WHY DO WE LOOK DIFFERENT? WHY SHOULD YOU COME HERE? WE'VE TALKED ABOUT IT EVEN ADDING TEACHERS TO THAT MIX.

[00:50:03]

WE WANTED TO HAVE THIS FIRST ONE AND SEE WHAT IT REALLY FELT LIKE.

BUT, WHO CAN TALK MORE TO TEACHERS, BUT OTHER TEACHERS AND REALLY WHAT IT IS LIKE HERE.

>> I HAVE ONE MORE QUESTION, I GUESS IN 2.2 WHERE WE'RE TALKING ABOUT CHANNELS OF LISTENING, LEARNING, AND IMPROVING STAFF SATISFACTION, I GUESS THAT TO ME IMPLIES WE'RE TAKING INFORMATION IN.

IS THERE ANYTHING IN HERE, DO WE NEED TO ENCOMPASS ALSO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE COMMUNICATION? I'M WONDERING. TWO WAY CHANNELS JUST CONVERSATION I DON'T KNOW HOW THAT WOULD LOOK.

>> I THINK WE ARE TRYING TO LOOK AT THAT, HOW DO WE TAKE THAT FEEDBACK IN, HOW DO WE PROCESS IT AND THEN HOW DO WE THEN TALK TO OUR TEACHERS, OUR COMMUNITY ABOUT, WHAT THEY'VE SAID TO US, HOW WE TAKE IT, AND WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO ABOUT THAT? BECAUSE IT DOESN'T REALLY FEEL GOOD IF WE TAKE IN ALL OF THEIR INFORMATION YET WE HAVE NO ACTIONS BEHIND THAT SO THAT IS SOMETHING THAT WE HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT.

WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH THOUGHT EXCHANGE AS CLAUDIA MOVES UP NEXT TO ME AND THAT IS ONE THING THAT AI OF THOUGHT EXCHANGES IS AMAZING BECAUSE IT DOES HELP YOU TURN THAT INTO HOW CAN WE PROACTIVELY TALK TO OUR STAFF ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT.

>> WELL, AND THE OTHER THING I WAS GOING TO ADD IS PART OF THAT TWO WAY COMMUNICATION WITH THIS IS WE ALREADY HAVE A TEACHER ADVISORY GROUP, WHICH IS, IT CONSISTS OF THE TWO YEARS WORTH OF EDUCATORS OF THE YEAR SO WE MEET WITH THEM, WE TRY TO DO IT MONTHLY, BUT IT'S HARD TO GET EVERYBODY TOGETHER.

BUT WE REALLY WANT TO UTILIZE THAT GROUP TO ALSO ENGAGE IN COMMUNICATION AND CHECK INS AND THINGS LIKE GOING THROUGH THOUGHT EXCHANGE AND SURVEY RESULTS.

THAT'S WHERE THAT LANDS.

>> OKAY. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, DIANE. ELLEN.

>> I JUST WANTED TO SAY HOW EXCITED I AM ABOUT THIS SECTION.

ONE, I'M SO EXCITED THAT WE PULLED OUT THE STAFF AND HR AS A SEPARATE SECTION.

I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR WHERE WE'VE ACTUALLY HAD IT COMPLETELY AS A SEPARATE SECTION.

FROM MY PERSPECTIVE, I'VE SEEN THE GREATEST MOVEMENT ON THIS SECTION OF ANY OF THE GOALS THAT WE HAVE BEEN WORKING TOWARDS.

THE CREATIVITY, ENERGY, VOICE, AND CULTURE THAT REALLY IS ABLE TO COME OUT OF THIS, TO ME IS JUST VERY, VERY EXCITING.

SO THANK YOU FOR FLESHING THAT OUT AND REALLY MAKING THESE ACTIONABLE STEPS THAT I THINK WE'LL DEMONSTRATIVELY HELP US IN THIS POST COVID WORLD, WHICH IS EXTRAORDINARILY DIFFERENT THAN HOW HR HAS HISTORICALLY BEEN IN THE TEACHING FIELD. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> CAN I BRAG ON LAURIE AND HER TEAM A LITTLE BIT?

>> THAT'S WHY I CAME UP HERE BECAUSE WE'RE GOAL FRIENDS.

>> WE'RE GOAL FRIENDS. YEAH, IT WAS HARD FOR US TO BE SPLIT. IT REALLY WAS.

>> WE WERE UPSET BUT YOU SEE, I'M HERE.

I DO WANT TO POINT OUT THAT THANK YOU FOR RECOGNIZING THAT, BECAUSE LAURIE AND HER TEAM HAVE BEEN JUST PHENOMENAL IN THINKING CREATIVELY.

WE HAD A MEETING LAST WEEK AND TRYING TO TALK THROUGH SOME DIFFERENT STRATEGIES TO RECRUIT AND RETAIN.

WE'VE BEEN HERE A LONG TIME TOGETHER, BUT IT WAS LIKE FRESH ENERGY COMING IN AND MY NEW MULTIMEDIA PERSON AND ABBY,.

>> ABBY BRAGIS.

>> ABBY IS THE DIRECTOR OF HR AND IT WAS SO NICE TO GET TOGETHER AND JUST BRAINSTORM AND COLLABORATE AND THINK, OH, HERE'S WHAT I SAW ON THIS WEBSITE, OR HERE'S WHAT I SEE THIS DISTRICT IS DOING SO THEY'VE BEEN REALLY DOING A GOOD JOB.

>> AND IT SHOWS. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, ELLEN. OTHER QUESTIONS ABOUT SECTION 2?

>> I WILL SAY ONE THING IF I COULD.

WHEN YOU SEE THE PRESENTATION ON APRIL THE 23RD RELATED TO THE BEGINNING OF YOUR DECISIONS REGARDING STAFFING AND COMPENSATION FOR NEXT YEAR, I THINK YOU'LL SEE SOME ELEMENTS OF THE RECENT THOUGHT EXCHANGE SURVEY THAT HAS BEEN DONE OF STAFF SO I THINK IT'S A GOOD EXAMPLE OF WHAT LAURIE AND CLAUDIA ARE SAYING, HOW WE CAN INCORPORATE THAT FEEDBACK INTO THE DECISION MAKING PROCESS.

>> THANK YOU. I GUESS WE'LL MOVE TO ITEM 3 THEN.

>> THANK YOU, LAURIE. THIS IS CLAUDIA,

[00:55:01]

SO WE'LL LET HER STAY AT THE TABLE IN CASE YOU HAVE QUESTIONS. LAURIE. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. BYE.

>> TRUSTEES, QUESTIONS.

DON'T LET CLAUDIA GET OFF THIS.

>> WELL, IF YOU'RE NOT GOING TO SAY ANYTHING I DO WANT TO POINT OUT I THINK IT WAS DIANE, WHERE YOU OR MAYBE IT WAS LAURIE, ONE OF YOU WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A AND B ON ONE OF THESE.

I TOOK IT BACK TO MY COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE, WHO ARE WONDERFUL, BY THE WAY, AND WE TALKED THROUGH IT.

WHILE WE DIDN'T TOTALLY 100% AGREE, WE DID GO AHEAD AND COMBINE WHAT YOU SAID WERE TOO SIMILAR.

BUT WE ALSO ADDED, I THINK IT WAS, LET'S SEE, IT WAS 32A AND 32.

THERE WAS A 32B THAT WAS SIMILAR TO 32, SORRY, 3.2.

I'VE GOT MY READERS ON, I STILL CAN'T READ IT.

3.2A DID HAVE A DIFFERENT 3.2B AND A 3.2C BUT I THINK YOU GUYS WERE A LITTLE WONDERING WHY A AND B AT THAT TIME WERE SO SIMILAR.

WE TALKED THROUGH IT, WE ENDED UP COMBINING THOSE.

THEN ONE OF MY COMMITTEE MEMBERS SAID, YOU GUYS DO SUCH A GOOD JOB OF REALLY EVALUATING AND LOOKING AT EFFICIENCIES TO BE ABLE TO DO THIS JOB ON A SHOESTRING BUDGET.

SHE SAID YOU NEED TO PUT THAT IN THERE SO THAT'S, WHERE IS IT? I THINK IT'S 3.1A2, GOSH, JEFF.

BUT BASICALLY JUST GETTING ALL THESE DIFFERENT PLATFORMS AND SYSTEMS THAT WE'RE LOOKING AT, BRINGING IN, EVALUATING, AND JUST CONSTANTLY LOOKING AT DIFFERENT TECHNOLOGIES THAT ARE EVOLVING.

>> DIANE?

>> WELL, THANK YOU. I HAD HARDLY ANY NOTES HERE, SO I APPRECIATE HOW IT LOOKS NOW I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT.

I HAVE OFTEN THOUGHT I'VE HAD CONVERSATIONS ABOUT HOW AMAZED I AM AT WHAT YOU DO WITH YOUR SHOESTRING BUDGET AND YOUR SMALL TEAM SO THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. KIM.

>> I JUST WANTED TO COMMENT.

I KNOW THAT WHEN THOUGHT EXCHANGE CAME UP A FEW MONTHS AGO, I REALLY COULDN'T GRASP IT.

BUT THROUGHOUT THE LAST SIX MONTHS, I GUESS I HAVE HEARD ABOUT THE BENEFITS OF THOUGHT EXCHANGE AND NOW UNDERSTAND HOW MUCH IT IS HELPING US GUIDE IN SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS SO I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO THE OTHER PLATFORMS THAT YOU'RE MENTIONING HERE.

>> YEAH, AND THOUGHT EXCHANGE IT'S EXCITING.

WE DUG THROUGH SOME OF THE STAFF DATA PRETTY EARLY ON AND IT CAN DO SO MANY THINGS.

IT CAN SHOW A REPORT FIVE DIFFERENT WAYS IF YOU WANT TO, I THINK IT WAS MOLLY WHO WAS LOOKING THROUGH IT WITH US AND SHE WAS SAYING, OKAY, I COULD REALLY GET IN THE WEEDS HERE AND GO DOWN A RABBIT HOLE AND GET LOST FOR HOURS AND YOU CAN, BUT YOU KNOW THE BEAUTY OF IT ALSO IS YOU CAN KEEP IT REALLY PRETTY HIGH LEVEL TO WHERE YOU'RE STILL UNDERSTANDING THE NEED, BUT NOT GETTING TOTALLY BOGGED DOWN AND DISTRACTED. [LAUGHTER]

>> THANK YOU. TRUSTEES. ANYTHING ELSE FOR SECTION 3? OKAY. THANK YOU.

>> NO ADVOCACY? NO.

>> NO, THANK YOU.

>> THANKS PRIORITY 4.

THIS ONE IS VERY BROAD.

IT ENCOMPASSES EVERYTHING FROM THE PRIORITY THAT WE PLACE ON DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION, TALKS ABOUT ALL OF THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE'RE IMPLEMENTING IN TERMS OF SAFE AND SECURE SCHOOLS, AND ALSO THE CULTURE OF WELLNESS AND BALANCE THAT WE HOLD SO HIGH FOR NOT JUST STAFF, BUT ALSO STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES TOO; SO A LOT OF DIFFERENT SPECIFIC MEASURES TO TRY TO HELP US MOVE THE NEEDLE ON EACH OF THOSE AREAS.

>> ELLEN.

>> I'M REALLY GLAD THAT THIS IS A SEPARATE GOAL AS WELL.

I THINK IT IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT AND CRITICAL ONE FOR US.

IN 4.3 OF THE GOAL ITSELF, I FOUND SHADES OF OUR OLD SEL IN THAT, IF YOU WILL, AND I LOVED THAT BECAUSE POST-COVID,

[01:00:01]

I'M MISSING RESILIENCY AND THE NEED TO REBUILD RESILIENCY ACROSS THE BOARD.

I'M LOOKING THEN AT THE FIRST COLUMN, THE TACTICAL, AND I'M WONDERING WHAT WE'RE DOING ON A TIER 3 LEVEL FOR ALL STUDENTS IN TERMS OF RESILIENCY, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, AND HEALTHY HABITS.

WE TALK SPECIFICALLY ABOUT PULL-OUT GROUPS AND ABOUT TIER 2, BUT ARE WE STILL COMMITTED TO, IF YOU WILL, THAT OLD-FASHIONED SEL, PARTICULARLY THE RESILIENCE ELEMENT ACROSS THE BOARD WITH ALL STUDENTS?

>> GREAT QUESTION. ABSOLUTELY. A LOT OF THAT JUST HAPPENS, ESPECIALLY WITH YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELING AT THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WE'RE USING SECOND STEP AND SO THEY'RE ALL DOING THOSE GUIDANCE LESSONS.

THEN THAT LOOKS SIMILAR.

COUNSELORS GO IN AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT, BUT AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL, THE COUNSELORS ARE STILL GOING IN AND TALKING ABOUT ALL OF THAT.

THERE'S THAT GOOD OLD-FASHIONED GUIDANCE COUNSELING THAT YOU GO IN TO EVERYBODY AND YOU TALK ABOUT THOSE REALLY CRITICAL SEL SKILLS, AND SO DEFINITELY WE STILL HAVE THAT.

I THINK FOR US, IT'S NOT AS MUCH AS A STANDOUT GOAL BECAUSE IT'S THAT DAY-TO-DAY THING THAT WAS JUST EMBEDDED INTO WHAT WE DO.

BUT YES, DEFINITELY STILL A VERY HIGH PRIORITY.

>> GREAT, THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU, ELLEN.

>> DIANE.

>> YOU WANT TO GO FIRST? OKAY. I JUST HAVE A REAL QUICK QUESTION ON 4.1 B, IT'S KIND OF IN THE WEEDS HERE, BUT THE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION RATES THAT YOU REFER TO IN THAT.

PARTICIPATION IN WHAT? THE STUDENT AND COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION.

>> WE'RE JUST TRYING TO GET MORE PEOPLE PARTICIPATING.

LIKE, FOR INSTANCE, IN THE ACTIVITY THAT WE'RE DOING TUESDAY NIGHT OR THE PRESENTATION WE'RE DOING TUESDAY NIGHT, SO JUST TRYING TO GET MORE COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION THROUGH.

>> THOSE TYPES OF EVENTS.

>> RIGHT, AND SO USING SOCIAL MEDIA, DIRECT COMMUNICATION.

WE OFTEN HEAR LIKE THIS IS AN ISSUE IN OUR COMMUNITY, THE COMMUNITY IS TALKING ABOUT THIS, AND THEN WE'LL HOLD AN EVENT AND NOBODY SHOWS UP.

[LAUGHTER] WE WANT TO FIGURE OUT HOW DO WE GET PEOPLE IN TO THESE EVENTS THAT WE'RE HEARING ARE REALLY CRITICAL FOR OUR COMMUNITY.

THE PARTICIPATION RATES FOR US IS A MEASURABLE THING TO SEE IF WE'RE DOING THIS, HOW ARE WE TRACKING THAT WAY?

>> OKAY. THANK YOU.

>> IN MY LEADERSHIP TASB GROUP LAST YEAR, WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM OF GETTING PEOPLE TO SHOW UP AT EVENTS.

THEY DECIDED THAT THEY WOULD COUPLE AN EVENT WITH AN UPDATE FROM THE FOOTBALL COACH ON THE FOOTBALL SEASON, [LAUGHTER] .

>> I'M GOING TO PUT THAT DOWN AS A STRATEGY.

>> THEN IT SHOT UP. WE'LL GO TO HEATHER.

>> HE'S PRETTY POPULAR AT RUDY'S.

MINE IS ON 4.3 ON THE TACTICAL PIECE, WELL, IT'S 4.3 C ACROSS THE BOARD.

I DEFINITELY APPRECIATE THAT.

I THINK FOR SOME REASON, THE GRIEF PORTION HAS STUCK IN MY HEAD TODAY, AND I'M THINKING THAT WE'RE DOING A REALLY GOOD JOB OF PUTTING THAT SUICIDE PREVENTION PIECE IN.

BUT I DON'T KNOW, AGAIN, I'VE MENTIONED IT IN THE [INAUDIBLE] PRESENTATION, IT'S BEEN A TOUGH YEAR FOR A LOT OF OUR KIDS DEALING WITH GRIEF, AND NOT JUST GRIEF SURROUNDING SUICIDE, BUT JUST GRIEF FROM LOSS.

I'M WONDERING IF, I DON'T KNOW, I GUESS WE DON'T NEED TO NECESSARILY CALL THAT OUT BECAUSE WE HAVE GROUP COUNSELING.

BUT MY QUESTION IS THAT JUST DEPENDENT ON OUR STAFF, OUR INTERNAL EANES ISD STAFF, OR IS THAT IN PARTNERSHIP? BECAUSE I KNOW WE HAVE PARTNERSHIPS WITH DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS TOO.

HOW DO YOU FORESEE THAT?

>> YEAH, DEFINITELY. I THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE EVENT, THE TIME, WHAT OTHER KIND OF RESOURCES WE BRING IN.

I KNOW THAT THE HIGH SCHOOL HAS DONE SEVERAL WELLNESS DAYS WHERE THERE'S LOTS OF DIFFERENT GROUPS THAT COME IN, AND SO MAKING SURE THAT OUR KIDS, AND IT'S NOT JUST, OBVIOUSLY, A ONE-DAY THING TO TALK ABOUT YOUR GRIEF, BUT MAKING SURE WE CONNECT OUR FAMILIES AND OUR STUDENTS WITH THOSE OUTSIDE PARTNERS.

THE OTHER THING THAT, AND YOU SEE A LITTLE BIT, THERE'S A MENTION IT HERE ABOUT A COUNSELING NEEDS ASSESSMENT.

ONE OF THE THINGS THAT HEIDI AND I ARE VERY FOCUSED ON, AND IT'S ALSO IN THE DIP THAT YOU'RE GOING TO SEE IS GETTING MORE STUDENT VOICE IN WHAT THEY NEED FROM US.

MAKING SURE THAT AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR WE'RE DOING SOMETHING, SHE AND I ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT USING THOUGHT EXCHANGE WITH THE HIGH SCHOOLERS NEXT YEAR SO THAT WE CAN SEE WHAT ARE THE THINGS, BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE SAME EVERY YEAR.

WE EVEN POSED THE QUESTION,

[01:05:01]

AS A STUDENT IN WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL, WHAT SUPPORTS DO YOU NEED? WHAT IS KEEPING YOU UP AT NIGHT AS A STUDENT AT WESTLAKE? THOSE ARE THE KINDS OF THINGS THAT COME OUT OFTEN OF LIKE IT IS GRIEF THIS YEAR OR SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENED AND WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THIS, BUT MAKING SURE AS THE ADULTS, WE'RE NOT DECIDING NECESSARILY JUST WHAT THE KIDS NEED WITHOUT THEIR VOICE.

THERE'S A LOT OF THAT HAPPENING.

>> I'M HAPPY TO HEAR THAT. THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS FROM THE BOARD ON SECTION 4? THANK YOU, MA'AM.

>> I DID WANT TO MENTION, AS MAYA IS GOING BACK, THAT THIS IS A BROAD SECTION AS I INDICATED AND THE PART OF THIS WHICH IS PRIMARILY 4.2 THAT'S ABOUT SAFETY AND SECURITY IS NOT JUST PHYSICAL SAFETY AND SECURITY, BUT ALSO CYBER SAFETY AND SECURITY AS WELL.

DR. SAILORS AND HER TEAM CONTRIBUTED TO THAT PART OF THE PLAN TOO.

PRIORITY 5 IS ALL ABOUT FINANCES, FACILITIES, AND MANAGING OUR ASSETS.

I WILL NOTE YOU'LL SEE SOME THINGS THAT ARE IN RED.

THAT WAS FEEDBACK THAT WE RECEIVED FROM SOME TRUSTEES AFTER OUR PREVIOUS CONVERSATION.

I WANTED YOU TO SEE THAT WE HAVE INCORPORATED SOME OF THOSE SUGGESTIONS, SOME OF THE WORD CHANGES THAT YOU HAD NOTED IN PREVIOUS DISCUSSIONS, SO THAT'S WHY YOU'LL SEE A LITTLE BIT OF RED TEXT THERE.

BUT THESE PRIMARILY FALL WITHIN CHRIS SCOTT AND JEREMY TRIMBLE'S DOMAINS.

THEY'RE HERE IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR THEM.

>> TRUSTEES, ANY QUESTIONS? OKAY. NO, NO, NO, WE CAN'T.

[LAUGHTER] HOLD ON HERE.

I WAS STRUCK BY 5.1B ON THE TACTICAL MEASURES PART.

I GET THE MEANING OF THAT. CERTAINLY DO.

IT JUST FEELS LIKE, YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN THE STATE IS GOING TO THROW SOMETHING AT US THAT JUST CAUSES US TO HAVE TO EAT UP SOME OF THAT, OUR GENERAL FUND TOWARD NON-STAFFING THINGS.

I THINK THAT THE BOARD IS REALLY COMMITTED TO MAXIMIZING EVERY EXTRA DOLLAR WE HAVE TOWARD SALARIES, TOWARD PEOPLE, BUT YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN WE'RE GOING TO BE REQUIRED TO INCREASE OUR FENCE HEIGHT TO 16 FEET OR SOMETHING.

>> I AGREE. AS I WAS PUTTING THAT TOGETHER, I RECOGNIZE SCENARIO 1, SCENARIO 2, SCENARIO 3, WHERE THAT NUMBER GOES IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM THE WAY WE'D LIKE IT TO GO.

BUT AS OF TODAY RIGHT NOW, I FEEL LIKE IT'S A PRETTY GOOD MEASURE OF THE AMOUNT OF EFFICIENCY WE'RE FINDING.

IT MIGHT BE THAT IN A YEAR OR TWO, WE'LL NEED A NEW MEASURE.

>> KIM.

>> MAYBE I'LL FOLLOW UP ON JAMES' QUESTION.

I WAS GOING TO ASK THIS OF DR. ARNETT AT THE END OF THE PRESENTATION, BUT SO MANY OF THESE TACTICAL MEASURES OR ADMINISTRATIVE MEASURES ARE RECOGNIZING THAT AT SOME POINT, WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO MEASURE THE VARIOUS GOALS.

I GUESS I WANTED TO KNOW, FOR INSTANCE, IN THIS FOUR, IF THERE'S A SCHEDULE OF WHEN WE'LL HEAR BACK ON MEASUREMENTS, GOOD OR BAD, BECAUSE WE NEED TRANSPARENCY? BUT ALSO EVERY GOAL IS GOING TO HAVE A DIFFERENT TYPE OF MEASUREMENT BECAUSE THEY'RE SO DIFFERENT.

I DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS A QUESTION, BUT I WANT US TO RECOGNIZE THAT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, THINGS ARE GOING TO GET THROWN AND CHANGE AND WE DO WANT TO MEASURE IT, AND WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO THEN JUST ADDRESS IT WITH THIS GROUP AND WITH DR. ARNETT AND CABINET.

BUT THE RECOGNITION BEING THAT WE'LL MEASURE THEM, BUT THEY'RE GOING TO BE IN DIFFERENT SLICES AS WE MOVE FORWARD.

>> I THINK NOT ONLY IS THIS DOCUMENT MEANT TO BE ORGANIC, WE EXPECT IT TO CONTINUE TO EVOLVE, BUT IT ALSO HAS TO BE VERY AGILE BECAUSE THERE ARE GOING TO BE UNEXPECTED CHANGES AND THE LANDSCAPE IS GOING TO SHIFT A LITTLE BIT.

SO WE HAVE TO BE PREPARED TO MAKE THOSE SMALL CORRECTIVE ACTIONS AND MEASURE DIFFERENTLY, PERHAPS WITHIN EACH ONE OF THESE AREAS, BUT ALSO AS THINGS COME UP UNEXPECTEDLY.

>> ONE THING THAT I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO IS THE 5.3A.

I'LL BE CURIOUS TO LEARN MORE ABOUT HOW WE'RE GOING TO COMMUNICATE WITH THE COMMUNITY AS WE MOVE THROUGH THE LONG RANGE FACILITY PLANNING.

[01:10:01]

THERE'S CERTAINLY A LOT OF BOND CAPACITY.

IF THIS COMMITTEE IDENTIFIES NEEDS THAT REQUIRE US TO USE ALL OR MOST OF THAT CAPACITY, IT WILL BE A BIG ASK OF OUR COMMUNITY.

AND I THINK THAT EVERY OPPORTUNITY WE CAN GET TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR COMMUNITY IS AWARE OF THE WORK THAT'S GOING INTO THIS, I THINK WILL HELP US IN THE LONG RUN WHEN WE GET TOWARD THAT VOTE.

ON MY PART, I WOULD LIKE TO SEE UPDATES TO THE BOARD PROBABLY TWICE A YEAR, PROBABLY, WELL, MAYBE THIS WHOLE THING WILL BE OVER AND YOU'LL BE DONE AND PUT A BOW ON IT IN A YEAR, BUT I'M ASSUMING THAT IT'S A PRETTY LONG PROCESS, AND SO GETTING THOSE UPDATES WOULD BE GREAT SO WE'LL WORK TOGETHER AND SCHEDULE THAT.

BUT I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT BEYOND THIS COMMITTEE OF GREAT PEOPLE.

ANYTHING ELSE FROM THE BOARD? THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN.

>> AND THE FINAL PRIORITY REALLY REPRESENTS THE WORK THAT THE EIGHT OF US DO TOGETHER AND UNDERSCORES THE IMPORTANCE OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE BOARD AND THE SUPERINTENDENT.

AND EACH ONE OF THESE THREE ACTIONS PERTAIN TO THINGS THAT WE KNOW ARE COMING UP IN THE NEXT YEAR, ESPECIALLY AS WE HEAD INTO THE NEXT SEASON FOR THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION.

BUT THEN ALSO REFLECTING ON THE RHYTHM THAT WE HOPE TO DEVELOP SO THAT YOU'LL GET REGULAR UPDATES ON OUR PROGRESS WITHIN EACH ONE OF THESE PRIORITY AREAS.

>> HEATHER.

>> MICROPHONE. IN 6.1 ON THE ADVOCACY PIECE, THE THIRD COLUMN, THE DEVELOPED LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES THAT UNDERSCORE THAT PIECE, THE VERY LAST PARTS, AND COMMUNICATE THOSE TO STAKEHOLDERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS.

AND I PROBABLY SHOULD HAVE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THIS BEFORE, BUT I'M WONDERING IF THAT SHOULD BE WORK WITH STAKEHOLDERS AND ELECTED OFFICIALS BECAUSE WE CAN COMMUNICATE THEM BUT IF WE AREN'T ALL WORKING TOGETHER, THEN IT'S GOING TO BE POINTLESS.

AND THEN ON THE TACTICAL PIECE, WE CAN TRACK LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES BUT I'M WONDERING IF WE NEED TO MAKE IT MORE SPECIFIC TO TRACKING BILLS THAT DEAL WITH OUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES OR MAYBE THAT'S WHAT YOU MEANT.

I DON'T KNOW. JUST BECAUSE IT'S GOING TO BE AN INTERESTING SESSION, AND SO HAVING LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES DOES NOTHING IF WE DON'T HAVE BILLS THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH THEM.

THANK YOU. OH, AND TO CLAUDIA'S POINT, WITH THE COMMUNICATING WITH AND WORKING WITH, ADVOCACY IS GOING TO REQUIRE OUR ENTIRE DISTRICT, PARENTS, OUR LEGISLATIVE OFFICIALS, ELECTED OFFICIALS, OUR LEGISLATIVE TEAM HERE, EVERYBODY.

>> I CAN ADD A LITTLE BIT MORE DETAIL TO THAT ONE.

>> THANK YOU, HEATHER. JEN.

>> I ACTUALLY WORRY A LITTLE BIT ABOUT ADDING TO THIS DOCUMENT SOMETHING ABOUT TRACKING BILLS.

THE NUMBER AND MAGNITUDE OF EDUCATION BILLS OR EDUCATION RELATED BILLS EVERY YEAR IS ENORMOUS.

AND TO ASK OUR DISTRICT TO PUT THAT AS A MEASURE FOR THEM TO TRACK, I THINK IS A BIT TOO MUCH.

I COULD SEE PUTTING IN THERE SOMETHING ABOUT WORKING WITH SOME OF OUR MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS TO STAY ABREAST OF THE BILLS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO EDUCATION BUT I DO WORRY ABOUT ADDING THAT AS A SPECIFIC MEASURE.

>> I DON'T DISAGREE WITH THAT.

I THINK THAT THAT'S A VERY GOOD POINT.

>> THANK YOU.

>> THANK YOU. OTHER THOUGHTS FROM TRUSTEES?

>> I GUESS LET ME BE CLEAR THOUGH.

I'M STILL NOT SURE WHY WE'RE TRACKING THE NUMBER OF LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES DEVELOPED.

THAT PIECE IS JUST LIKE IF WE HAVE A PRIORITY, WE HAVE A PRIORITY.

>> AND MAYBE THE POINT IS NOT THE NUMBER BUT JUST THE PROGRESS OF LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES.

>> GOOD WORK TO YOU AND THE TEAM, DR. ARNETT. [OVERLAPPING]

>> YEAH.

>> APPRECIATE ALL THE WORK THAT'S GONE INTO THIS AND MORE WORK TO COME, I'M SURE.

>> THE NEXT THE NEXT STEP IN THE PROCESS IS ON APRIL THE 15TH, WE'LL REVIEW THIS DOCUMENT INCLUDING THE FEEDBACK THAT YOU'VE PROVIDED TONIGHT WITH THE DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TEAM.

WE'LL ALSO INTRODUCE THE EARLY STAGES OF THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN TO THE DLT, AND THEN, ASSUMING THAT THEY RECOMMEND THIS DOCUMENT, THE PRIORITIES FOR YOUR FINAL APPROVAL ON APRIL THE 23RD,

[01:15:01]

WE'LL BRING IT BACK TO YOU THAT NIGHT.

AND THEN, AS MOLLY MAE SAID IN MAY, YOU'LL SEE THE NEXT VERSION OF THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN, WHICH IS MORE FOCUSED ON COMPLIANCE, WHEREAS THIS DOCUMENT IS FOCUSED ON YOUR PRIORITIES.

>> THANK YOU. ELLEN.
