HE PLAYS ON THE EIGHTH-GRADE BASKETBALL TEAM, IS A MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY, AND PLAYS TUBA IN THE BAND. YOU ARE BUSY.

JUST LIKE TO REITERATE TO EVERYONE IN THE AUDIENCE THAT THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST ENJOYABLE EXPERIENCES AT A BOARD MEETING THAT A SUPERINTENDENT GETS TO DO, BECAUSE WE GET TO TALK ABOUT KIDS, GET TO TALK ABOUT GREAT THINGS, AND GREAT ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

WE DID HAVE FIVE FOOTBALL PLAYERS SIGN NATIONAL LETTERS OF INTENT TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT THE GRADUATE LEVEL, HAD A CHANCE TO GO OVER AND PARTICIPATE IN THIS, AND JUST REALLY ENJOYED GETTING TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THESE YOUNG MEN, RANGING FROM DIVISION 3 ALL THE WAY TO DIVISION 1.
WE'RE WISHING THEM ALL GREAT SUCCESS, BUT IT WAS REALLY, REALLY A WONDERFUL MORNING OF CELEBRATION FOR THESE FOLKS AND FOR THEIR PARENTS.
SECONDLY, EXTREMELY EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WESTLAKE HIGH SCHOOL'S AVR TEAM.
WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ROBOTICS HERE; ACTUALLY WON A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP LAST WEEK.
THE TEAM WAS STARTED FOUR YEARS AGO AND HAS ADVANCED TO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND EACH YEAR.
THIS CONTEST, IN PARTICULAR, CONSISTS OF SKILLS WITH SIX DIFFERENT DEVICES, FOUR ROBOTS, AND TWO DRONES.
THEY ARE DRIVEN AND FLOWN AT THE SAME TIME.
THE BEST THREE SCORES OF FOUR MATCHES, AND A PRESENTATION COMPOSED THE FINAL SCORE.
THE TEAM HAS ALSO WON TWO OTHER QUALIFYING TOURNAMENTS THIS YEAR, SO CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ROBOTICS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM.
GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL WON THE 2025 JACK FROST TOURNAMENT, 43-33 WIN OVER CAPEL.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BOYS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM AS THE CHAPS WIN THE 2025 ANDERSON CLASSIC.
WESTLAKE DEFEATED FORT BEN TRAVIS, 64-48, IN A DOMINANT PERFORMANCE.
MY WIFE AND I HAD A CHANCE TO ATTEND A COUPLE OF THOSE GAMES.
WE SAW THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, AND I TELL YOU, IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE GIRLS OR THE BOYS, YOU NEED TO GO SEE BOTH.
REALLY, REALLY EXCITING BASKETBALL. LOTS OF TALENT.
THEY'RE GOING TO DO REALLY, REALLY WELL THIS YEAR. THERE'S NO DOUBT ABOUT THAT.
NEXT, I WANT TO JUST MENTION IN GENERAL THAT WE HAVE HAD A CYBERSECURITY INCIDENT.
THE OUTAGE HAS IMPACTED A NUMBER OF OUR WORK SYSTEMS THIS PAST WEEK.
DR SAILORS AND HER TECHNOLOGY TEAM HAVE DEVOTED COUNTLESS HOURS, OFTEN WORKING LATE NIGHTS.
IN FACT, I'D SAY ALL NIGHT, ALL THROUGH THE WEEKEND, TO RESTORE OPERATIONS AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.
I AM REALLY HAPPY TO REPORT THAT DESPITE ALL THESE CHALLENGES, I'M SO PROUD OF OUR TEACHERS, OUR STAFF, OUR STUDENTS SHOWING REMARKABLE RESILIENCE.
THEY HAVE THE LAST SEVERAL DAYS REALLY HAD TO BE FLEXIBLE, ADJUST, AND ADAPT, AND THEY'VE DONE A GREAT JOB OF DOING THAT.
THANKFULLY, TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS HAVE BEEN RUNNING SMOOTHLY; MEALS, MOST, AND I'D SAY THE MAJORITY OF DAY-TO-DAY OPERATIONS REMAIN UP AND RUNNING.
THE BIGGEST ISSUE RIGHT NOW IS REALLY GETTING WIFI AND THE INTERNET BACK RESTORED, AND WE'RE WORKING VERY, VERY HARD ON THAT.
IN FACT, RIGHT NOW, WE'VE GOT A TEAM THAT'S WORKING EXTREMELY HARD TO DO THAT.

FOURTH-GRADE THROUGH 12TH-GRADE STUDENTS ARE ASKED TO SUBMIT ORIGINAL ARTWORK THAT WILL BE TURNED INTO A MURAL AND PLACED ON ONE OF THOSE HUGE WATER TANKS.
IF YOU EVER WANTED TO BE VISIBLE, [LAUGHTER] AND I DON'T KNOW IF WE GET TO THE SUCCESSFUL STUDENT.
THE ARTIST WILL BE ABLE TO SIGN IT AT THE BOTTOM, OR THE NAME WILL BE ON THIS WATER TANK OR NOT.
I'M HEARING THAT POSSIBLY THAT WILL HAPPEN, BUT I'M HOPING THAT WE'LL GENERATE A LOT OF INTEREST AND A LOT OF COMPETITION BETWEEN STUDENTS.

WE FELT PRETTY GOOD ABOUT THOSE. WE ALSO WANTED TO GET OUT THERE AND GET AHEAD WHEN IT COMES TO DUAL CREDIT AND GIVING SOME KIDS DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO GET SOME COLLEGE CREDIT OUTSIDE OF AP, SO THEY CAN ALSO ENTER COLLEGE WITH CREDIT AS WELL.
THAT WAS OUR FOCUS, AND THEN WE HAD ONE AS WELL TO COMPLETE SOME OF OUR STUFF IN OUR CTE STRAND, AS WELL AS TO GIVE KIDS ANOTHER WAY TO GET A LICENSE.

OBVIOUSLY, WITH IT BEING AN AP COURSE, WE'RE PROPOSING THAT I HAVE THE PLUS 10 GRADE POINTS ASSOCIATED WITH IT.
THEY'RE BOTH GOING TO BE FOR ONE CREDIT, AND WE HAVE EXISTING STAFF THAT WOULD BE TEACHING THESE COURSES.
THE ONLY COST FOR BOTH OF THESE COURSES WOULD POTENTIALLY BE IF THE TEACHER THAT WE HAVE ASSIGNED TO TEACH IT NEEDS TO ATTEND THE AP SUMMER INSTITUTE AND SO THEN WE WOULD NEED TO FUND THE COST OF THAT OF SENDING THEM TO THAT INSTITUTE.
WE'VE GOT AP BUSINESS WITH PERSONAL FINANCE, AND THEN THE SECOND AP COURSE WOULD BE THE AP CYBERSECURITY COURSE THAT WE'RE PROPOSING.
THIS PARTICULAR COURSE IS NOT CURRENTLY LISTED IN ONE OF THE CTE PROGRAMS OF STUDY, BUT THERE IS A PATHWAY FOR THAT, AND I THINK THAT BECAUSE IT'S SUCH A NEW COURSE THAT'S BEING OFFERED BY COLLEGE BOARD, THAT THEY WILL PROBABLY GO BACK AND LOOK AT THAT AND TAKE THAT INTO CONSIDERATION AS POSSIBLY ADDING THAT TO ONE OF THE PROGRAMS OF STUDY THAT'S ALREADY AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS THROUGH CTE.
THEN WE MOVE ON TO ANOTHER CTE COURSE THAT'S THE FUNDAMENTALS OF REAL ESTATE.
THIS PARTICULAR COURSE, YOU'RE GOING TO SEE THE COST FOR THE CURRICULUM DOWN THERE AS $12,000.
THAT'S AN ESTIMATE FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE CLASS OF STUDENTS TO BE ABLE TO DO THE COURSE WORK THAT'S REQUIRED FOR THIS.

WE CURRENTLY HAVE STAFF ON CAMPUS THAT IS CREDENTIALED THROUGH ACC.

THEY WOULD RECEIVE ONE HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT, WHICH WOULD BE THE ENGLISH 3, AND THEN POTENTIALLY SIX CREDITS THROUGH ACC.
AGAIN, WE WOULD HAVE STAFF THAT COULD CURRENTLY APPLY WITH ACC INTERVIEW BE HIRED AS AN ADJUNCT PROFESSOR, AND THEN OBVIOUSLY BE ABLE TO TEACH THE COURSE ON OUR CAMPUS.
RIGHT NOW, THERE'S NO COST FOR TUITION FOR KIDS, SO THIS WOULD BE FREE FOR KIDS TO TAKE.
THERE WOULD BE NO COST TO THE DISTRICT, AND THE ONLY COST WOULD POTENTIALLY BE IF OUR TEACHER OPTED FOR A TEXTBOOK, WHICH WOULD BE AT THE COST OF THE STUDENT.
THIS WOULD BE AGAIN, FOR JUNIORS WITH THE HOPE THAT IF WE HAD ENOUGH STUDENTS INTERESTED, WE COULD ROLL UP AND PROPOSE THE NEXT LEVEL COURSE FOR THOSE KIDS MOVING INTO THEIR SENIOR YEAR TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO EARN SOME COLLEGE CREDITS THERE.
THEN THE LAST COLLEGE CREDIT OPPORTUNITY WOULD BE THROUGH UT ONRAMPS.
WE CURRENTLY DID NOT HAVE STAFF THAT HAD THEIR MASTERS TO WHERE WE COULD DO A MATH CLASS THROUGH ACC AND SO WE WENT THE UT ONRAMPS ROUTE, AND WE CHOSE STATISTICS.
THAT'S ONE OF THE MATH COURSES THAT THEY OFFER THROUGH UT ONRAMPS.
THIS IS ACTUALLY A DUAL ENROLLMENT COURSE.
IT GETS A LITTLE BIT TRICKY WITH UNDERSTANDING HOW THIS WORKS.
BUT ESSENTIALLY, WE WOULD HAVE A MATH TEACHER THAT WOULD BE THE FACILITATOR OF THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADE.
THEY WOULD WORK IN COLLABORATION WITH A UT PROFESSOR, WHO WOULD BE ISSUING THE COLLEGE CREDIT FOR STATISTICS, AND THE TWO OF THEM COLLABORATE.
THE TESTS AND THINGS COME FROM UT.
OUR TEACHER ADMINISTERS THOSE.
OUR TEACHER CAN ADD ANY ADDITIONAL ASSIGNMENTS THAT THEY WANT SINCE THEY'RE IN CONTROL OF THE HIGH SCHOOL GRADE.
THEN, ESSENTIALLY, THE KIDS IN THE SPRING GET TO SEE WHAT THEIR CREDIT FROM UT, WHAT GRADE THAT WOULD BE, AND THEY GET TO OPT AS TO WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO TAKE THAT AND HAVE A UT TRANSCRIPT GENERATED.

UNFORTUNATELY, THAT DOESN'T GET REIMBURSED IF THE KID CHOOSES TO NOT TAKE THE CREDIT AT IN THE SPRING WHEN THEY SEE WHAT THEY'RE GOING TO EARN, BUT THEY COULD POTENTIALLY EARN ONE HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT WITH US, AND THEN THREE CREDITS THROUGH UT FOR STATISTICS.

I THINK, ESPECIALLY WITH THE REAL ESTATE CLASS, IT GIVES KIDS SOMETHING THEY'RE REALLY HIGHLY MOTIVATED TO TAKE FOR SURE.
WHEN IT COMES TO THE DUAL CREDIT, WHEN ITS STARTED INVESTIGATING, WE LIKE THAT JUST BECAUSE THEY'RE ON OUR CAMPUS, AND THAT'S ALWAYS BEEN A BIG THING WITH OUR STAFF.
WE WANT TO HAVE SOME LOCAL CONTROL AND MAKE SURE OUR KIDS FEEL LIKE THEY'RE BEING TAUGHT BY US, THEY'RE BEING ASSESSED BY US.
WE CAN FINALLY GOT THEM WHERE THEY COULD FEEL GOOD ABOUT WORKING WITH SOMEONE ELSE VERSUS HAVING TOTAL CONTROL.
